WELL...WE GOT SOME RAIN TODAY AS EXPECTED.

NOW, WE ARE EXPECTING COLD WEATHER FOR THE REST OF THE WEEKEND.

MOVING INTO THE BUILDING AND THAT MAQUOKETA WILL BE HAPPY WITH
THE NEW BUSINESS. I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT IT WILL BE. WE WILL JUST HAVE TO WAIT. I'LL LET YOU KNOW WHEN I FIND OUT SOMETHING.
CHECK THE PHOTOS I PUT UP EARLIER TODAY, BELOW.
IF OUT TO PARTY TONIGHT, DRIVE WITH CARE. IF YOU DRINK, DON'T DRIVE.

SUNNY DAY TODAY AND HIGH OF 21.
THE JACKSON COUNTY CONSERVATION BOARD THIS MORNING REINSTATED FULL DUTIES TO THEIR DIRECTOR, DARYL PARKER , AFTER FELONY CHILD ABUSE CHARGES AGINST HIM WERE DISMISSED IN WISCONSIN LAST WEEK. PARKER, WHO LIVES IN BELLEVUE, HAD PLEADED NOT GUILTY TO THE CHARGES IN JULY AFTER HE
WAS ACCUSED FOR KICKING A TEENAGE BOY AND SHOVING ANOTHER DURING A GAME OF LASER TAG AT A WISCONSIN RESORT. SOON AFTER, THE BOARD PUT HIM ON PAID ADMINISTRATIVE LEAVE AND ORDERED HIM TO RELINQUISH HIS GUN AND BADGE.
HE HAS BEEN WORKING SINCE DOING HIS NORMAL DUTIES, BUT NOT HIS LAW
ENFORCEMENT DUTIES.
AND ALSO TODAY, THE SUPERVISORS APPOINTED ONE OF THEIR MEMBERS TO FILL THE OPENING ON THE CONSERVATION BOARD NOW HELD BY ROGER SCHLADESKY.
STATE LAW ALLOWS A SUPERVISOR TO SERVE ON THE CONSERVATION BOARD AS A FULL VOTING MEMBER. FLYNN WILL BEGIN HIS SIX-YEAR TERM ON THE FIVE-MEMEBER BOARD IN JANUARY. THE SUPERVISORS HAD NOT HEARD FROM SCHLADESKY AND ASSUMED HE WAS NOT INTERESTED IN REAPPOINTMENT CONSIDERATION.
THERE WAS ONE OTHER APPLICANT FOR THE OPENING.
THANKS FOR CHECKING IN.

3 - 4 INCHES OF SNOW OVERNIGHT, LAST NIGHT. TODAY, CLOUDY AND LIGHT SNOW, PROBABLY ANOTHER INCH. MORE COLD WEATHER FOR THE REST OF THE WEEK
WITH LITTLE OR NO SNOW.
MAQUOKETA COMMUNITY SCHOOL BOARD MEMBERS DIRECTED THE SUPT.
KIM HUCKSTADT TO START NEGOTIATIONS WITH FIRMS TO PROVIDE SOME

THE HEATING AND AIR-CONDITIONING SYSTIM FOR BRIGG'S ELEMENTARY IS A PRIORITY. LIGHTING IS THE BIGGEST ISSUE FOR CARDINAL ELEMENTARY.
AT THE HIGH SCHOOL AND MIDDLE SCHOOL, BOTH WINDOWS AND HEATING
ARE TOP PRIORITIES. MONEY FROM THE LOCAL OPTION SALES TAX IS AVAILABLE TO DO THE REPAIRS. SUPT. HUCKSTADT SAID THEY HAVE ABOUT $5.8 MILLION AVAILABLE TO DO THE PROJECTS. BOARD MEMBERS SAID MAKING THE BUILDINGS ENERGY EFFICIENT IS A TOP PRIORITY.
A COUPLE BIRTHS:
MARISA AND MATTHEW HEEFNER ARE PARENTS OF A BOY WHO WAS BORN
DECEMBER 14TH AT CEDAR RAPIDS. MATERNAL GRANDPARENTS ARE MARY AND BLAINE BOCK OF MAQUOKETA AND GREAT-GRANDMOTHER IS RUTH ANDERSON OF MAQUOKETA.
DAVID AND CHELSEA FULLER ARE PARENTS OF A GIRL BORN RECENTLY IN
KINGSLAND, GEORGIA. PATERNAL GRANDMOTHER IS DIANNE FULLER OF MAQUOKETA.
THE MAQUOKETA WRESTLERS ARE ON THE ROAD TONIGHT.
SNOW CONTINUES TO COME DOWN RIGHT NOW, 3:40 P.M.
JOHN JONES, SR......FORMERLY OF MAQUOKETA AND NOW LIVING IN
A CARE CENTER AT PELLA NEAR WHERE DAUGHTER BARB LIVES.....IS 96
TOMORROW. HE WORKED FOR CLINTON ENGINES IN MAQUOKETA FOR MANY YEARS AND THEN WAS A LIFE INSURANCE AGENT UNTIL RETIRING.
HIS SON, JACK, HAS BEEN MANAGER OF THE VOY THEATRES SINCE 1974.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY JOHN! WASN'T TOO LONG AGO THAT HE HAD FUN SKY-DIVING.
AND, HE STILL ENJOYS SOME TIME UP HERE ON THE WORLD WIDE WEB AND
KEEPING TRACK OF HIS 3 GRANDCHILDREN, ALL GIRLS.
OH, THE WEATHER OUT SIDE IS..... SING ALONG

YOU MAY HAVE SEEN THE SIGN EXOTIC CRITTER CORNER AND WONDERED WHAT IT WAS, BUT WONDER NO MORE. 109 S. JONES IS THE LOCATION OF THE NEW PET STORE. BRIAN AND KIM RIXEN ARE THE OWNERS AND ARE EXCITED TO OPEN THE STORE AND MEET THE RESIDENTS OF MAQUOKETA. THE STORE HOURS ARE MON-FRI 10-7, SAT 10-6 AND SUN 12-4. MOSTLY CLOUDY AND HIGH OF 19 TODAY.
AROUND 3 INCHES OF SNOW POSSIBLE TONIGHT AND ANOTHER INCH TOMORROW.
MAQUOKETA FIREMEN WERE CALLED TO A MOBILE HOME FIRE AT 2:45 THIS
AFTERNOON TO A MOBILE HOME AT 44 YALE, OWNED BY DOUG AND HEATHER
SAID. THE COUPLE HAD BEEN GONE A COUPLE HOURS AND WHEN THEY RETURNED,
THEY COULD SEE SMOKE AT THEIR DOOR. THEY DID NOT ENTER THE TRAILER AND CALLED FIREMEN WHO ENTERED THE HOME AND FOUND THE FIRE HAD CHOKED
ITSELF OUT. IT APPARENTLY STARTED IN A GARBAGE CAN NEAR THE SINK, AND THEN BURNED THROUGH A CABINET AND MELTED PLASTIC TUBING AND
THAT CAUSED WATER TO SRRAY OVER THE FIRE AND PUT IT OUT.
LOTS OF SMOKE HAD TO BE CLEARED AND BECAUSE OF SOME ELECTRICAL AND MINOR STRUCTURAL DAMAGE, DOUG AND HEATHER SAID WILL NOT BE ABLE TO OCCUPY THE MOBILE HOME UNTIL SOME REPAIRS ARE MADE. FIREMEN WERE AT THE SCENE FOR ABOUT AN HOUR.
THE MAN WHO LAST SEPTEMBER WAS ACCUSED OF ROBBING THE ANDREW BRANCH OF THE MAQUOKETA STATE BANK HAS BEEN BROUGHT TO MAQUOKETA
FROM A MILWAUKEE JAIL TO FACE CHARGES. $45,000 WAS TAKEN AND HAS NOT
BEEN RECOVERED. THEY ARE STILL SEARCHING FOR ONE OR TWO OTHERS WHO
MAY HAVE BEEN INVOLVED IN THE ROBBERY. NOW, THE MAN, JASON BROWN, AGE 31, IS BEING HELD IN JACKSON COUNTY DETENTION CENTER UNDER $150,000 BOND. A PRELIMINARY HEARING IS SET IN JACKSON COUNTY DECEMBER 23RD.
THE MAQUOKETA GIRLS LOST BY A LOT OF POINTS LAST NIGHT TO THE 3RD
RANKED DEWITT SABER GIRLS, AT DEWITT. THE CARDINALS ARE NOW 3 AND 4 FOR THE SEASON.
IN THE CARAWAY NEWSLETTER, IT SAYS THAT A GIRAFFE CAN CLEAN HIS EARS WITH A 21-INCH LONG TONGUE. I TALKED TO DALE THIS MORNING AND
HE SAYS TO REMIND YOU ALL THAT SOME OF THE THINGS IN HIS NEWSLETTER
ARE INTERNET ORIGIN...MAY NOT REALLY BE ACCURATE. MY GUESS IS THAT
MOST ARE THOUGH.
THANKS FOR THE VISIT .... GET OUT THE SNOW SHOVEL AGAIN.

YES...WE HAVE BEEN HIT BY ANOTHER LATE-FALL WINTER STORM AGAIN.
NOT AS MUCH SNOW AS LAST TIME.....ABOUT HALF.
BUT, COLD AND WINDY.
LOTS OF BUSINESS PLACES CLOSED TODAY....MANY CHURCH SERVICES WERE
CANCELLED TOO.
BUT, THE STORM AND BLIZZARD HAS ENDED.
DRIVING SHOULD BE OKAY THE REST OF TODAY, BUT IT WILL GET COLDER.
IT IS 16 DEGREES NOW AND TONIGHT, DOWN TO 10 BELOW.
TOMORROW, MOSTLY CLEAR AND COLD...A HIGH AROUND 6 AND NORTHWEST WIND 10 TO 15 MPH.
TUESDAY...HIGH OF 11 AND WEDNESDAY, ANOTHER CHANCE OF SNOW AND
HIGH IN THE LOWER 20'S.
THE WRESTLING TOURNAMENT THAT WAS TO BE HOSTED BY MAQUOKETA YESTERDAY WAS POSTPONED.
HAVE A GOOD SUNDAY.

THE SNOW CAME OVERNIGHT. DID IT EVER!
OVER 5 INCHES.
AND IT IS STILL SNOWING. WE ARE LOOKING FOR ANOTHER INCH BEFORE IT ENDS.
HIGH TODAY WILL BE IN UPPER 20'S. THE SNOW IS ON THE HEAVY SIDE....
NOT EASY SHOVELING.
THE MAQUOKETA GIRLS AND BOYS BASKETBALL TEAMS BOTH BEAT
WATERLOO COLUMBUS LAST NIGHT.
THE WRESTLERS ARE IN A CASCADE TOURNAMENT TODAY.
IN YESTERDAYS COMMENTS ABOUT MAX MOELLER.... I FORGOT TO MENTION
THAT WHILE IN THE NAVY, HE WAS ALSO A RADIO TECHNICIAN 1ST CLASS
OPERATOR. SORRY I FORGOT THAT MAX! MAX BY THE WAY, DOESN'T TURN 91 UNTIL IN FEBRUARY. AND INTERESTING ALSO TO NOTE THAT HE DESIGNED THE CUSTOM BUILT 28 BY 40 THREE-BEDROOM HOME THIS YEAR THAT HE IS NOW LIVING IN. AND, MAX SAYS THAT AFTER 50 YEARS OF MAQUOKETA SNOW, HE DOESN'T MISS IT AT ALL.
DON'T FORGET, YOU CAN SEE THE MAQUOKETA SNOW AND THE VEHICLES DRIVING
IN IT, BY GOING TO THE HOME PAGE OF KMAQ....WWW.KMAQ.COM AND CLICK-ON
THE UPPER LEFT BUTTON. THEN, SEE WHAT THE WEB CAM IS PICKING UP
OUTSIDE MY OFFICE AND YOU CAN LISTEN TO KMAQ-FM ALSO.
HAVE A GOOD WEEKEND.
NO REPOART MONDAY AS I WILL BE OUT OF TOWN.

FRIDAY, HE ROLLED A PERFECT 300 GAME AT TIMBER LANES.
THEN HE ROLLED ANOTHER 300 THIS PAST THURSDAY NIGHT.

A WEEK. AND LAST NIGHT,
HE WAS HIGH BOWLER AGAIN

FOR THE ELECTRIC GENERATING DAM AT LAKEHURST, JUST WEST OF MAQUOKETA.
HE IS SINGLE, BUT WILL BE GETTING MARRIED NEXT YEAR. I FORGOT TO ASK
WHO THE LUCKY GIRL IS AND IF SHE IS A BOWLER OR NOT. YES INDEED, HE IS NOW MAQUOKTA'S STAR BOWLER! KEEP IT UP RYAN! LOUIE CLASEN, AT LEFT
ABOVE, THE OWNER OF TIMBER LANES, HAS A PRETTY GOOD LEAD ON RYAN.
LOUIS HAS HAD 22 PERFECT GAMES. RYAN HAS ONLY BEEN LEAGUE BOWLING FOR
ABOUT 8 YEARS, SO HE HAS PLENTY OF TIME TO CATCH LOUIE. CLICK-ON THE

TAKE A FRIEND OR THE FAMILY. WEDNESDAY NIGHT IS FAMILY NIGHT AT TIMBER LANES. MAQUOKETA IS A GOOD BOWLING TOWN, BUT THERE IS PLENTY OF ROOM FOR YOU. LOUIE CAN EVEN GET YOU IN A LEAGUE IF YOU LIKE.

A WINTERY DAY TODAY. SO MUCH FOR THE WEATHER. NO SNOW THOUGH.
SUNDAY, MAQUOKETA POLICE OFFICER JT THOMPSON WAS SPRAYED BY A SKUNK THAT HE WAS TRYING TO GET OUT OF THE KENT AND MARGO SHOUSE GARAGE
IN MAQUOKETA. THE OFFICER THEN USED A SHOVEL TO PUSH IT OUT OF THE GARAGE AND IT WENT UNDER A DECK NEXT DOOR. THOMPSON CHASED IT OUT
FROM UNDER THE DECK AND SHOT IT. HE SAID IT APPEARED TO BE SICK.
IT WILL PROBABLY BE A COSTLY INCIDENT. IF THEY CAN'T GET THE SMELL
OUT OF THE UNIFORM, IT WILL COST AROUND $1,200 FOR AN ENTIRE NEW UNIFORM AND ASSOCIATED LEATHER. THE SQUAD CAR HAS THE ODOR AS THOMPSON DROVE IT BACK TO THE POLICE STATION. THEY ARE USING FEBREZE AND LETTING IT AIR OUT WITH WINDOWS OPEN. IT IS AIR OUT TIME ALSO FOR HIS SHOES. NOW WITH COLDER WEATHER, KEEP YOUR GARAGE DOOR CLOSED AS
KORANDA SAID THERE ARE A LOT OF SKUNKS IN THE CITY. THERE HAS BEEN AN INCREASE IN SKUNK REPORTS IN TOWN. KORANDA SAID THE POLICE ARE NOT EXTERMINATORS. HE SAID THE BEST ADVICE IS IF YOU FIND A SKUNK IN YOUR GARAGE, OPEN THE DOOR AND PUT SOME FOOD OUT AS BAIT. THE SKUNK
WILL COME OUT TO EAT.
THE IOWA INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY LAW ASSOCIATION HAS INDUCTED MAQUOKETA NATIVE AND NOBEL LAUREATE PHYSICIST ROBERT MILLIKAN INTO THE IOWA INVENTOR'S HALL OF FAME. MAQUOKETA SCHOOL SUPT. KIM HUCKSTADT WAS AT THE AWARDS CEREMONY AND ACCEPPTED THE AWARD.
THE MAQUOKETA HIGH SCHOOL CHAPTER OF THE NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY IS NAMED IN HONOR OF MILLIKAN. MILLIKAN'S FAMILY MOVED TO MAQUOKETA WHEN HE WAS 7 AND HE GRADUATED FROM MHS IN 1886. HE IS KNOWN FOR HIS OIL-DROP EXPERIMENT CONDUCTED IN 1909 WHICH MEASURED THE ELEMENTARY CHARGE OR THE CHARGE OF AN ELECTRON. IN 1923, HE RECEIVED THE NOBEL PRIZE IN PHYSICS. THE PLAQUE PRESENTED TO HUCKSTADT WILL BE PLACED AT THE MAQUOKETA HIGH SCHOOL.
FROM A MAQUOKETA SKUNK TO A MAQUOKETA NOBEL PRIZE WINNER....I COVER IT ALL HERE ON THE DAILY REPORT.
KEEP WARM!

YESTERDAY WAS A NICE BUT COOL DAY FOR THANKSGIVING.
TODAY, PARTLY SUNNY AND COLD. AFTER AN OVERNIGHT LOW OF 17,
WE ARE ONLY IN THE UPPER 20'S TODAY.
THE COMMUNITY THANKSGIVING DINNER AT THE SENIOR CENTER WENT
WELL. THEY REPORTED THIS MORNING THAT THEY HAD AROUND 130 AT THE
CENTER FOR DINNER AND DELIVERED ABOUT 65 MEALS. THE EVENT WAS
BIGGER THAN LAST YEAR. IT WAS A RECORD NUMBER. THE MAQUOKETA COMMUNITY SERVICES ASSISTED THE MAQUOKETA MINISTEREAL ASSOCIATION
IN HOSTING THE EVENT. ENOUGH DONATIONS WERE RECEIVED TO PAY FOR
THE MEAL.
IN JACKSON COUNTY, THE JOBLESS RATE WENT UP TO 7 PERCENT IN OCTOBER,
FROM 6.8 PERCENT IN SEPTEMBER.
A THEFT IN MAQUOKETA. WANDA CASS OF 111 N. 5TH STREET REPORTED YESTERDAY THAT A STEREO WAS STOLEN FROM HER VEHICLE OVERNIGHT.
TWO MORE DEER ACCIDENTS, BY RONALD ELMEGREEN AND DAWN HARLAND.
BOTH YESERDAY.
NEW MAQUOKETA BOYS BASKETBALL COACH MATT UTHOFF SAYS THIS YEAR'S SQUAD WILL BE ONE LACKING A SUPERSTAR BUT INSTEAD WILL BE A VERY
BALANCED TEAM. HE TOLD US THAT RIGHT NOW, CRAIG JOHNSON, JON BOPES, ERIC CALLAHAN AND PEYTON RIVER ARE BATTLING FOR STARTING SPOTS AND
THAT ANDREW HIGH SCHOOL TRANSFER CHASE COAKLEY WILL HELP THE TEAM WHEN HE BECOMES ELIGIBLE IN THE SECOND SEMESTER. THE CARDINALS
OPEN THE SEASON AT HOME NEXT TUESDAY NIGHT WHEN THEY HOST
VINTON SHELLSBURG. THE CARDINAL GIRLS WON THEIR OPENER THIS PAST TUESDAY. UTHOFF WAS HEAD COACH AT CENTRAL CITY LAST YEAR.
OLD TIME TURKEY SHOOT WINNERS (OF A TURKEY) ON KMAQ THIS YEAR
INCLUDED THESE LISTENERS IN MAQUOKETA: DIANE GRAVES, EDGAR TURNEY,
DONNA DAVENPORT, VELMA WITT, MONITA EBERSOLE AND LUCILLE BOWMAN.
WE ALSO HAD 6 WINNERS FROM OTHER CITIES.
THE KMAQ GUEST BOOK HAS BEEN TAKEN OFF THE KMAQ WEB SITE. TOO MANY
ENTRIES BY A FEW (MOSTLY NAMELESS) PEOPLE ON MATTERS THE GUEST BOOK WAS NOT INTENDED FOR. I GAVE SEVERAL WARNINGS THIS PAST YEAR!
NOW....IF YOU HAVE SOMETHING YOU WOULD LIKE ME TO PASS ALONG TO MY READERS, EMAIL ME AND I'LL INCLUDE IT IN A DAILY REPORT.
kmaq@kmaq.com
LOOKS LIKE WE WILL MAKE IT THROUGH NOVEMBER WITHOUT A SNOWFALL.
HAVE A NICE WEEKEND!

NASTY DAY TODAY. COLD AND LIGHT RAIN. MORE TONIGHT. TOMORROW
SHOULD BE BETTER, BUT STILL COLD. SOME SUNSHINE EXPECTED IN THE
AFTERNOON.
THE JACKSON COUNTY (REPLICA OF OLD SCHOOL) WELCOME CENTER AT SABULA IS GETTING A NEW ROOF. THE BUILDING IS 20 YEARS OLD.
THE MAQUOKETA HOSPITAL IS GETTING A NEW ELECTRONIC MEDICAL RECORDS SYSTEM FOR THE DOCTOR'S OFFICES. THE NEW SYSTEM WILL MAKE THE
HOSPITAL FULLY CONNECTED TO THE TWO CLINICS AND WILL HELP INCREASE
PATIENT SAFETY. BOARD PRESIDENT KEVIN BURNS SAID WHILE IT'S A LARGE
CHUNK OF MONEY ($140,000), THE BENEFIT TO THE COMMUNITY IS HUGE.
SOME EXCITEMENT AT CARDINAL ELEMENTARY SCHOOL YESTERDAY AFTERNOON.
STUDENTS WERE EVACUATED FOR A HALF HOUR BECAUSE OF CARBON MONOXIDE ISSUE. BLACK HILL ENERGY WAS CALLED TO FIX THE PROBLEM AND THEN STUDENTS DID NOT GO BACK TO THEIR CLASSROOM BECAUSE IT WAS THE END OF SCHOOL FOR THE DAY.
ON POLICE BLOTTER....AMBER BURRIS SAID SOMEONE TOOK HER DYNO GT CHROME BIKE FROM THE MAQUOKETA PUBLIC LIBRARY TUESDAY. THE BIKE IS NOT
REGISTERED. POLICE CHIEF BRAD KORANDA URGES PARENTS TO HAVE THEIR
BIKES REGISTERED AT THE POLICE STATION FOR A NOMINAL FEE.
LONGTIME PRESTON BUSINESS WOMAN HAZEL DRISCOLL, AGE 96, DIED
YESTERDAY AT MERCY HOSPITAL IN CLINTON. SHE AND HER LATE HUSBAND
RAN THE HARDWARE STORE DOWNTOWN FOR MANY YEARS.
THE MAQUOKETA GIRLS WON THEIR FIRST BASKETBALL GAME OF THE SEASON LAST NIGHT, HERE, DEFEATING CLEAR CREEK AMANA BY ABOUT 20 POINTS.
HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!

WE HAD A WARM SUNNY MORNING AND THE TEMPERATURE GOT UP TO 62 EARLY THIS AFTERNOON. THEN CAME A TORNADO WATCH, STILL IN EFFECT. AND THE
TEMPERATURE IS DROPPING....NOW IN THE 40'S. HAD A COUPLE THUNDERSTORMS OVER NIGHT. SOUNDS LIKE IT WILL BE A BIT COLD THANKSGIVING DAY,
WITH AFTERNOON SUNSHINE AND HIGHS ONLY IN THE LOW 30'S.
ON THE WEEKEND POLICE BLOTTER: BRITTINI BRONSON REPORTED SATURDAY MORNING THAT A GPS AND FUZZ BUSTER WERE TAKEN FROM HER CAR OVERNIGHT
ON EAST PLATT STREET.
JORDAN PIERCE SAID A CD PLAYER WAS TAKEN FROM HIS CAR SUNDAY WHILE PARKED AT 106 NORTH JONES.
AND, SHERINA PETERSEN SAID YESTERDAY MORNING THAT THE TIRES ON HER
VEHICLE WERE SLASHED OVERNIGHT.
THE JACKSON COUNTY RECOUNT BOARD FINISHED SUNDAY MORNING AND FOUND NO DIFFERENCES IN THE VOTE TOTALS FOR THE STATE SENATE DISTIRCT 13
ELECTION, THAT WAS WON BY TOD BOWMAN OF MAQUOKETA, BY SOME 70 VOTES.
CLINTON COUNTY. IT TOOK 8 HOURS TO DO THE RECOUNT IN JACKSON COUNTY.
CLINTON COUNTY IS FINISHING UP THE RECOUNT TODAY AND DUBUQUE COUNTY WILL FINISH WEDNESDAY. LITTLE CHANGE IS EXPECTED IN THOSE TWO
COUNTIES ALSO. THE FINAL OUTCOME OF THE RECOUNT FROM ALL 3 COUNTIES
WILL BE ANNOUNCED THIS FRIDAY, OR SOONER OR LATER.
THE TATTOO BUSINESS IN DOWNTOWN MAQUOKETA (EVILUTION TATTOOS & BODY PIERCING) THAT HAS BEEN OPEN FOR SEVERAL YEARS, CLOSED OVER THE WEEKEND AND EVERYTHING WAS MOVED OUT. TOM SIMPSON OWNS THE BUILDING AND
APPARENTLY DIDN'T KNOW THAT THE CLOSING WAS COMING. TOM HAS STARTED
INSIDE REPAINTING ALREADY AND THE BUILDING IS NOW FOR RENT.
MAQUOKETA HAS NO OTHER TATTOO PLACE. CLINTON AS 3 STORES.
A BIG ONE IN SAVANNA IS LOCATED AT "POOPIES". AND I'M SURE THERE ARE
SEVERAL IN DUBUQUE AND THE QUAD CITIES.
HAD A NICE WEEKEND AT THE THEATRE WITH THE NEW HARRY POTTER MOVIE.
BUT....THE PROFITS WILL QUICKLY GO. THE ICE MACHINE GAVE OUT (AFTER
18 YEARS OF USE) AND A NEW ONE COMES TOMORROW. AND THEY ARE NOT
CHEAP.
HAVE A GOOD WEEK. DON'T EAT TOO MUCH BEFORE THE BIG FEAST THURSDAY.
THEN YOU CAN LET YOURSELF GO.
WEDNESDAY NIGHT, WE WILL BROADCAST THE 7 P.M. THANKSGIVING-EVE SERVICE "LIVE AND DIRECT" FROM THE FIRST LUTHERAN CHURCH ON EAST PLATT STREET
IN MAQUOKETA. IT WILL BE ON BOTH KMAQ AM AND FM AND YOU WILL BE ABLE TO LISTEN TO IT ALSO ON YOUR COMPUTER OR LAPTOP. JUST GO TO WWW.KMAQ.COM AND CLICK ON THE ON-THE-AIR BUTTON IN THE UPPER LEFT CORNER.
MAKE A NOTE NOW TO BE SURE TO LISTEN.

WEEKEND WEATHER WILL BE GOOD.
THE CORNER MEXICAN RESTAURANT IN DOWNTOWN MAQUOKETA THAT

THE CITY COUNCIL THIS WEEK AGREED TO SELL THE ALLEY BETWEEN SECOND AND NORTH NIAGARA STREETS TO BRAD DEERY MOTORS. THERE ARE FOUR LOTS MAKING UP THE ALLEY THAT HAS NO PURPOSE AS BRAD DEERY OWNS THE LAND ALL
AROUND THE ALLEY AND THAT LAND IS FOR CAR DISPLAYS. AT THE PUBLIC HEARING, NO ONE SPOKE AND THERE WERE NO PHONE CALLS. THE LAND WAS SOLD FOR $400 AND BRAD DEERY WILL PAY THE LEGAL FEES.
READ ALL ABOUT THE TORQUE FEST COMING TO MAQUOKETA NEXT APRIL

WE HAVE ONE AREA FOOTBALL TEAM STILL IN THE PLAYOFFS. NORTH CEDAR OF
STANWOOD WILL PLAY THEIR NEXT GAME MONDAY NIGHT.
WENT PAST THE TRUCK STOP LAST NIGHT AND I HAVE NEVER SEEN SO MANY TRUCKS IN MAQUOKETA AT ONE PLACE. MAQUOKETA'S TRUCK STOP

NICE, SUNNY AND 60 FOR A HIGH.
THE IOWA SECRETARY OF STATE'S OFFICE IS DECLARING BRIAN MOORE, (R) FROM
ZWINGLE, AS THE WINNER IN THE STATE REPRESENTATIVE RACE, DEFEATING
INCUMBANT TOM SCHUELLER.(D) OF MAQUOKETA. THE STATE'S OFFICIAL COUNT GIVES 5,473 VOTE S FOR MOORE AND 5,324 FOR SCHUELLER, MAKING IT A 149 VOTE DIFFERENCE.
AND, THE STATE SAYS TOD BOWMAN (D) HAS EDGED HIS OPPONENT ANDREW NAEVE (R) BY 38 VOTES. THE STATE SHOWS 9,960 FOR BOWMAN AND 9,922 FOR NAEVE.
JACKSON COUNTY AUDITOR M. JOELLE DEPPE SAID THERE ARE STILL POSSIBLE ABSENTEE BALLOTS AND PROVISIONAL BALLOTS TO COUNT WHICH COULD EFFECT THE CLOSE MARGINS. PROVISIONAL BALLOTS ARE THOSE WHICH MAY BE CHALLENGED DUE TO VOTER REGISTRATION OR OTHER ISSUES. DEPPE SAID THERE HAD BEEN NO CALLS TO HER OFFICE FOR A RECOUNT THIS MORNING.
THE JACKSON COUNTY SUPERVISORS ARE SCHEDULED TO CANVAS THE VOTE
NEXT TUESDAY TO MAKE THE TOTALS OFFICIAL. BOTH DUBUQUE AND CLINTON
COUNTY SUPERVISORS HAVE TO CANVAS THE VOTE TOO, AS WELL AS THE STATE BECAUSE IT IS A STATE OFFICE.
BOTH RACES WERE CLOSE AND FOR THAT REASON, THE OUTCOME COULD CHANGE.
BUT RIGHT NOW, MOORE AND BOWMAN ARE THE WINNERS.
ALL THE CANDIDATE'S RADIO AND TV SPOTS ARE DONE, THE NEWSPAPER ADS
HAVE ENDED AND THE YARD SIGNS ARE DISAPPEARING. ANOTHER ELECTION
IS OVER! LET'S HOPE THAT YESTERDAY'S ELECTION MAKES FOR A BETTER COUNTY,
STATE AND NATION IN 2011!

HOLD EVERYTHING!
THE TWO CLOSE RACES HERE IN JACKSON COUNTY (WITH DUBUQUE AND CLINTON COUNTY BALLOTS INCLUDED) ARE STILL QUESTIONABLE!
THE STATE AUDITOR'S TOTAL DOES NOT MATCH THE LOCAL TOTAL!
PLUS, BALLOTS POSTMARKED BY MIDNIGHT LAST NIGHT MAY STILL COME IN AND CHANGE THINGS MORE.
WE MAY HAVE TO WAIT UNTIL THE THREE SUPERVISOR BOARDS (OF EACH COUNTY) DO THEIR MANDATED CANVASS OF THE
VOTES.
M. JOELLE DEPPE, JACKSON COUNTY AUDITOR, TOLD KMAQ
NEWS THAT A WINNER IN THE TWO RACES CAN NOT AT THIS
TIME CAN NOT BE DECLARED.
ON KMAQ NEWS AT 12:15 (ALSO AT THAT TIME HERE ON OUR WEB SITE) WE MAY HAVE MORE INFORMATION.

A QUICK REPORT ON THE ELECTION YESTERDAY!
FORMER GOVERNOR TERRY BRANSTAD (R) WON OVER GOVERNOR CULVER.
SEN. GRASSLEY (R) EASILY WON AGAIN OVER ROXANN CONLIN.
CONG. BRALEY (D) WON, BUT BY ONLY A SMALL MARGIN.
TOD BOWMAN, MAQUOKETA, (D) WON BY 25 VOTES FOR IOWA SENATE TO REPLACE RETIRING DEMOCRAT ROGER STEWART. BOWMAN CARRIED JACKSON COUNTY BUT
ANDREW NAEVE CARRIED CLINTON AND DUBUQUE COUNTY PRECINCTS.
ST. REP. TOM SCHUELLER, MAQUOKETA, (D) LOST (BY 224 VOTES). WINNER BRIAN MOORE, ZWINGLE FARMER AND NEWCOMER TO POLITICS. AGAIN. SCHUELLER
CARRIED JACKSON COUNTY BUT MOORE DID BETTER IN CLINTON AND
DUBUQUE COUNTIES.
THE BIGGEST SURPRISE IS THAT SCHUELLER LOST.
AND THE TWO RACES (SENATE AND ST. REP) WERE AS CLOSE AS I CAN EVER RECALL HERE IN JACKSON COUNTY.
WILL A RE-COUNT BE CALLED-FOR IN THE SENATE RACE? SINCE THE OUTCOME
IS SO CLOSE, THAT COULD HAPPEN.,
