THE MAQUOKETA BOYS LOST TO WESTERN DUBUQUE LAST NIGHT 47 TO 45 HERE
IN MAQUOKETA. BUT, DEWITT ALSO LOST TO MARION. DEWITT HAS FINISHED THEIR REGULAR SEASON AND MAQUOKETA STILL HAS 2 MORE GAMES LEFT, SO THERE IS STILL A CHANCE FOR MAQUOKETA TO TAKE THE WAMAC CONFERENCE CHAMPIONSHIP ALL BY THEMSELVES. ADAM HEPKER LED MAQUOKETA IN SCORING WITH 25 POINTS.

THE MAQUOKETA SCHOOL BOARD MEMBERS WILL BE MEETING IN SPECIAL CLOSED SESSION SATURDAY MORNING TO ADDRESS A DICIPLINE PUNISHMENT FOR THE STUDENT WHO RAN NAKED (STREAKED)AT THE BASKETBALL GAME LAST FRIDAY NIGHT IN MAQUOKETA. ACCORDING TO THOSE IN ATTENDANCE, THE STUDENT, WHOSE NAME HAS NOT BEEN RELEASED, WAS ONLY WEARING A PIECE OF CLOTHING AROUND HIS FACE AND HE SUPPOSEDLY DID THE STUNT ON A "DARE". HE COULD BE SUSPENDED FOR 9 DAYS OR EXPULSION FROM SCHOOL IS POSSIBLE, BUT WOULD REQUIRE BOARD ACTION. PERSONALLY, I HOPE THEY DON'T GO THE EXPULSION ROUTE.

THE ISSUE OF IF OR IF NOT TO HAVE A FULL BACKYARD BURNING BAN WAS DISCUSSED AT THE CITY COUNCIL MEETING MONDAY NIGHT, BUT NO ACTION WAS TAKEN. WHATEVER THE OUTCOME, BACKYARD GRILLING WOULD NOT BE EFFECTED.

SUPERVIORS DISCUSSED COMPLAINTS RECEIVED ABOUT JUNK VEHICLES AND OTHER ITEMS AT THE FRANK RANDALL PROPERTY NEAR THE ROCKDALE ROAD NORTH OF MAQUOKETA. THE SUPERVISORS ASKED ZONING ADMINISTRATOR DAVID MANNING TO WORK OUT A CLEANUP PLAN WITH RANDALL AND REPORT BACK TO THE SUPERVIORS.

MORE POP MACHINES BROKEN INTO THIS WEEK ON EAST PLATT IN MAQUOKETA.

IN JACKSON COUNTY MAGISTRATE COURT, TERRY KREMER, AGE 21, OF MAQUOKETA, WAS FINED $272 ON CHARGES OF POSSESSION OF DRUG PARAPHENALIA AND 30 DAYS IN JAIL, 29 SUSPENDED, ON CHARGES OF SIMPLE ASSAULT, AMENDED FROM DOMESTIC ASSAULT. THE COUNTY ATTORNEY SAID THERE WAS NOT ENOUGH EVIDENCE FOR A DOMESTIC ASSAULT CHARGE. POLICE SAY KREMER BODY-SLAMMED HIS GIRLFRIEND AND DRUG HER BY THE HAIR IN THE 100 BLOCK OF SOUTH NIAGARA STREET IN MAQUOKETA AROUND CHRISTMAS. AND THEN ON JANUARY 25, 2004, POLICE STOPPED HIS VEHICLE ON WEST PLATT STREET IN MAQUOKETA AND THREE HYPDERMIC NEEDLES AND OTHER DRUG PARAHENALIA WERE FOUND IN THE VEHICLE.
