A DEVELOPER IS PROPOSING A CONDOMINIUM PROJECT FOR BELLEVUE THAT COULD DOUBLE THE VALUE OF THE TOWN. A.J. SPEIGEL WANTS TO BUILD 300 UPSCALE CONDOS NORTH OF TOWN, ON CHOICE LAND HE OWNS NEXT TO THE MISSISSIPPI RIVER, WHERE A HUGE ANHYDROUS AMMONIA TANK STOOD FOR MANY YEARS. HE WOULD BUILD 4 STORY CONDOS.
HE CURRENTLY IS BUILDING AN EIGHT UNIT COMPLEX IN DOWNTOWN BELLEVUE AND ALSO HAS PLANS FOR CONDOS IN DUBUQUE. HE OWNS A LARGE SUCCESSFUL FACTORY IN DUBUQUE COUNTY, AND RECENTLY
PURCHASED A LARGE INDUSTRIAL BUILDING IN MAQUOKETA'S INDUSTRIAL PARK.

THE CITY COUNCIL HAS DECIDED TO GO AHEAD WITH AN EXPANSION PLAN FOR THE FIRE STATION IN MAQUOKETA. THE COST COULD GO TO AROUND $2-MILLION DOLLARS.

BOBBIE ALPERS OF RURAL MAQUOKETA HAS BEEN NAMED THE CHIEF JUDGE FOR IOWA'S 7TH DISTRICT, WHICH INCLUDES JACKSON AND 4 NEIGHBORING COUNTIES. SHE WILL REPLACE MAQUOKETA NATIVE
DAVE SCHOENTHALER OF DAVENPORT, WHO HAS HELD THE CHIEF JUDGE POSITION FOR 3 YEARS. JUDGE ALPERS IS THE FIRST WOMAN JUDGE TO BE NAMED THE CHEIF JUDGE. SHE AND HER HUSBAND KURT ULLRICH LIVE NORTHWEST OF MAQUOKETA, OFF THE CAVES ROAD. HER FATHER IS HAROLD ALPERS, OF DAVENPORT, WHO RAN THE MAQUOKETA FAREWAY STORE FOR MANY YEARS UNTIL RETIRING. DAVID SCHOENTHALER RETIRES THIS SUMMER AFTER BEING A JUDGE FOR 14 YEARS AND HE AND HIS WIFE WILL MOVE TO VENICE, FLORIDA. HE WAS WITH HIS DAD
IN THE LAW FIRM HERE IN TOWN UNTIL BEING APPOINTED JUDGE IN THE DISTRICT.

BECKY AND BOB SONSTEGARD OF MAQUOKETA HAD A GIRL MONDAY AT THE LOCAL HOSPITAL. GRANDMOTHER IS IRMAGARD TEDROW OF MAQUOKETA.

THE MAQUOKETA GIRLS PLAYED A GREAT GAME LAST NIGHT AT MANCHESTER AGAINST #2 RATED WEST DELAWARE , BUT LOST 2 TO 0.
BOTH RUNS WERE UNEARNED AS A RESULT OF PASSED BALLS.

RIDICULOUS DAY WAS A SUCCESS YESTERDAY, BUT SHORTENED BY RAIN DURING THE NOON HOUR.
