NICE WEATHER THE LAST COUPLE DAYS. 82 BOTH YESTERDAY AND TODAY. A LITTLE RAIN EARLY THIS MORNING. REST OF WEEKEND SHOULD ALSO BE GOOD.

MAQUOKETA PLAYS MONTICELLO THERE TONIGHT.

SUNDAY IS GRANDFATHER'S DAY.

THE SUPERVISORS AND PAM AND JACK ROSENBERG STILL HAVE NOT COME UP WITH A NEW LEASE FOR THE HUMAN SERVICES OFFICE THE ROSENBERGS RENT TO THE COUNTY. THE BUILDING IS THE FORMER ROSENBERG AUTO BUILDING THAT WAS EXTENSIVELY REMODELED FOR OFFICES 5 YEARS AGO. THE RENT HAS BEEN $3,650 A MONTH AND THE ROSENBERGS WANT A 4-PERCENT INCREASE. THE LEASE IS CAUSING THE PROBLEM. THE LAST OFFER BY THE COUNTY WAS A 3-YEAR LEASE WITH A SIX MONTH NOTICE TO GET OUT OF IT EARLY, ALONG WITH THE 4 PERCENT INCREASE. PAM ROSENBERG SAID THAT IS THE SAME AS A 6 MONTH LEASE AND THAT SHE AND HER HUSBAND ARE NOT INTERESTED IN THAT. THE LEASE ACTUALLY EXPERIED AUGUST 31ST, SO THE ROSEBERGS COULD EVICT THE HUMAN SERVICES. BUT THERE WAS A 30 DAY EXTENSION AND PROBABLY COULD BE ANOTHER EXTENSION. KEEP TUNED.

THE NEW BURNING ORDINANCE FOR THE CITY STILL HAS NOT BEEN PASSED. MAQUOKETA WAS PLANNING AN ORDIANCE TO ALLOW BURNING OF PAPER ONLY ON SATURDAYS. THEY WERE TOLD AT THIS WEEK'S COUNCIL MEETING THAT THE IOWA DNR RULES PROHIBIT BURNING OF ITEMS WHICH CAN BE LOCALLY RECYCLED. SO, THE DNR SAID THE CITY'S PROPOSED ORDINANCE
WOULD NOT BE LEGAL.

TALKED TO ANNA SCANLAN THE OTHER AFTERNOON IN MAQUOKETA. MANY OF YOU WILL REMEMBER HER AS A LONGTIME WAITRESS AT THE MAQUOKETA COUNTRY CLUB. SHE WILL BE 96 ON OCTOBER 15TH. LOOKS AND FEELS GOOD. LIVES ALONE IN HER RURAL LOST NATION HOME
AND HAS GIVEN UP DRIVING. SHE WORKED AT THE CLUB UNTIL SHE WAS 86 OR 87.

THE NEW MAQUOKETA YMCA WILL OPEN FOR BUSINESS OCTOBER 29TH.

SCHOOL BOARD ELECTION DAY IS TUESDAY. TROY THEDE IS NOT RUNNING FOR RE-ELECTION.
SO, WE WILL HAVE A NEW BOARD MEMBER. EITHER DOUG KNICKREHM OR MARTY HUDRLIK.
DOUG IS 47, A 1978 MCHS GRAD, HIS WIFE IS LAURI AND THEY HAVE TWO CHILDREN.
HE OWNS CORNERSTONE TRANSPORTATION SERVICES. MARTY IS 48, A 1977 MCHS GRAD,
HIS WIFE IS MARY AND THEY HAVE A DAUGHTER AND TWO SONS AND HE IS EMPLOYED AS COURTHOUSE MAINTENANCE MANAGER, WORKING FOR JACKSON COUNTY.
MARY BARTELS, LONE INCUMBENT, IS SEEKING REELECTION. SHE IS OPPOSED BY
MARK PAPE. SORRY, BUT I DO NOT HAVE THEIR BIO HANDY RIGHT NOW.
ALSO ON THE BALLOT, A PROPOSAL TO CONSTRUCT A $1.45 MILLION DOLLAR CLASSROOM BUILDING FOR MAQUOKETA FOR CLINTON COMMUNITY COLLEGE. IT NEEDS 60% APPROVAL.
IF APPROVED, THE ESTATE OF THE LATE JOHN FAGERLAND OF MAQUOKETA WOULD CONTRIBUTE $250,000 FOR THE PROJECT. JOHN WAS A LONGTIME MEMBER OF THE BOARD OF CLINTON COMMUNITY COLLEGE AND AN ADVOCATE OF A BUILDING HERE IN MAQUOKETA. IF APPROVED TUESDAY, BONDS WOULD ALSO BE SOLD FOR ITS CONSTRUCTION AND THE TAX TO PAY OFF
THE BONDS WOULD BE $1.27 PER MONTH PER PROPERTY OWNER, FOR 10 YEARS, WITH A HOME VALUED AT $100,000. IT WOULD CERTAINLY BE A NICE ADDITION FOR MAQUOKETA.
THE BUILDING WOULD PROBABLY BE BUILDT UP BY THE HIGH SCHOOL.

A SEPTEMBER 11TH MEMORIAL SERVICE IS PLANNED FOR TUESDAY NIGHT AT THE FIRST WARD PARK IN MAQUOKETA, STARTING AT 6 P.M.

RICHARD AND NANCY DYAS OF MAQUOKETA WILL CELEBRATE THEIR 45TH WEDDING ANNIVERSARY
SEPTEMBER 11TH, WITH A FAMILY DINNER. HE IS RETIRED FROM THE HOSPITAL AND NANCY WORKS FOR CAR FRESHENER IN DEWITT. THEY HAVE TWO DAUGHTERS, DAWN AND KIMBERLY, BOTH MARRIED AND LIVE IN MAQUOKETA. ALSO 4 GRANDCHILDREN.

BOB AND JOYCE MITCHELL OF MAQUOKETA WILL CELEBRATE THEIR 50TH SEPTEMBER 10TH, WITH THEIR FAMILY. BOB IS RETIRED FROM MITCHELL MASKREY FEEDS AND JOYCE IS A HOMEMAKER.
DAUGHTER ANN LIVES IN DUBUQUE, JANE IN OXFORD, FRANK IN MAQUOKETA AND BOBBY IN MAQUOKETA, ALSO 7 GRANDCHILDREN.

HAVE A GOOD WEEKEND.
