TUESDAY DAILY REPORT

NICE SUNNY DAY...HIGH IN THE  UPPER 50'S.
REST OF THE WEEK LOOKS EVEN BETTER.

RENTERS ARE STARTING TO LEAVE OR MAKE PLANS TO LEAVE THE
EMMA COURT APARTMENTS IN MAQUOKETA.    THE BUILDING IS OWNED
BY ROY WARD AND HE IS THINKING OF TEARING DOWN THE BUILDING
AND REPLACING  IT WITH A SINGLE STORY BUILDING FOR APARTMENTS.
OR...HE MIGHT SELL THE BUILDING AND IN FACT, HAS A PERSON DOWN
AT ELDRIDGE WHO HAS EXPRESSED INTEREST.    WARD HAS A LOT
OF BUILDINGS IN MAQUOKETA, INCLUDING THE FORMER KEY MOTEL
AND THE DOLLAR GENERAL STORE AND HE SAYS HE HAS LISTED ALL OF HIS RENTAL PROPERTIES.     THE EMMA COURT APARTMENTS HAS BEEN INSPECTED BY THE FIRE MARSHALL AND THERE ARE PROBLEMS AND
FIRE HAZARDS.   THERE ARE OTHER ISSUES MAKING IT UNSAFE TO LIVE
IN.     I WILL KEEP YOU INFORMED.

A CAR HIT A COW LAST WEEK ON HIGHWAY 64.    GLEN FUEGEN OF PRESTON
HIT THE STEER OWNED BY LEE  JOHNSON OF RURAL MAQUOKETA.     $3,000 IN DAMAGES TO THE FUEGEN CHEVY PICKUP AND THE LOST STEER WAS VALUED AT $1,500.

THE BANOWETZ ANTIQUES 3-DAY AUCTION IS THIS FRIDAY, SATURDAY AND SUNDAY.    VERYL  AND KATHY ARE GOING TO RETIRE!

A PRESTON MAN HIT JACKSON COUNTY DEPUTY SHERIFF STEVE SCHROEDER IN THE MOUTH DURING A SCUFFLE TO ARREST HIM SUNDAY.
RUSTIN BORMANN WAS CHARGED WITH PUBLIC INTOXICATION AND ASSULTING A POLICE OFFICER AND WAS PUT IN JAIL ON A $10,000 CASH BOND.    SCHROEDER WAS TREATED FOR THE MINOR INJURY.

SENATE CANDIDATE JONI ERNST WILL CAMPAIGN AT THE DECKER HOTEL IN MAQUOKETA SATURDAY FROM 12:45 UNTIL 1:30 P.M.
SHE'S THE HOG FARMER FROM WESTERN IOWA TRYING TO UNSEAT
CONGRESSMAN BRALEY.   IT IS A CLOSE RACE.

JACKSON COUNTY AUDITOR M. JOELLE DEPPE TOLD THE SUPERVISORS
THIS MORNING THAT 3,097 ABSENTEE BALLOTS HAVE BEEN SENT OUT AND 1,739 HAVE BEEN RETURNED.     THE NUMBERS ARE HIGHER THAN OTHER YEARS.       SHE  SAID ABSENTEE BALLOTS ARE THE WAVE OF THE FUTURE AND SHE SAID CANDIDATES ARE PUSHING ABSENTEE VOTING.

SHORT COUNCIL MEETING LAST NIGHT.   SOME RESIDENTS ALONG GRANT STREET AND GRANT COURT HAVE SIDEWALKS THAT "LEAD TO NOWHERE" AND THEY ASKED IF THEY HAD TO BE SHOVELED THIS WINTER.
BUT, FOR THE SECOND TIME, THEY WERE TURNED DOWN BY THE COUNCIL,  SO THEY WILL CONTINUE TO SHOVEL THEM EVEN THOUGH NO ONE WALKS ON THEM.    THESE SIDEWALKS ARE IN A CUL DE SAC AND THAT MAKES FOR OTHER SNOW CLEARING PROBLEMS.    THIS YEAR, STREET CREWS ARE GOING TO PUSH ALL SNOW TO THE MIDDLE OF THE CUL DE SAC AND COME BACK THE NEXT DAY TO HAUL IT AWAY.

ISN'T IT EXCITING TO TALK ABOUT SNOW?    YOU FOLKS DOWN SOUTH MISS ALL THIS EXCITEMENT AND PLANNING.    NO SNOW IN THE WINTER.....BORING!!

DRIVE BY THE CREEPY HOUSE ON SOUTH 5TH STREET WHEN YOU ARE OUT AND ABOUT.     BIGGER AND BETTER THAN PAST YEARS.

LOST AND FOUND:    FOUND, ON THE NORTH FORK OF THE MAQUOKETA RIVER, A BOAT.    THE FOUR PASSENGER BOAT HAS BEEN DAMAGED AND HAS BEEN ON THE RIVER, LOST, FOR ABOUT 3 YEARS.    ANY INFORMATION
SHOULD BE GIVEN TO THE SHERIFF'S OFFICE.

FREE SHOW TOMORROW (WED) NIGHT IN MAQUOKETA! ONE IN A SERIES PRESENTED BY THE COLLEGE.

MAQUOKETA POLICE ARE INVESTIGATING A VANDALIZM REPORT AT SUNSHINE PRESCHOOL.    SOMEONE SHOT THE GLASS OUT OF THE BACK DOOR OF THE FACILITY.
