THE JACKSON COUNTY ZONING COMMISSION MEMBERS TURNED DOWN A REZONING REQUEST FOR PROPERTY NORTH OF MAQUOKTA, ACROSS THE RIVER. THE OWNERS, CLIFFORD PFAB AND JOE ZWACK ARE EXPECTED TO APPEAL TO THE JACKSON COUNTY BOARD OF SUPERVISORS NEXT WEEK.
THEIR COMPANY IS MAQUOKETA LAND DEVELOPMENT COMPANY.
DURING THE ZONING BOARD PUBLIC HEARING MONDAY NIGHT, SOME
NEIGHBORS VOICED OPPOSITION TO CHANGING THE ZONING FROM AG TO RESIDENTIAL. THEY ARE CONCERNED ABOUT INCREASED TRAFFIC ON 55TH STREET. THE MEN WANT TO BUILD 11 HOUSES ON THE ACREAGE.'

A NEW MEDICAL BUILDING WILL BE GOING UP ON PROPERTY OF THE HOSPITAL IN MAQUOKETA, LOCATED NEXT TO THE HOSPITAL.
IT SOUNDS LIKE MEDICAL ASSOCIATES PHYSICIANS WILL MOVE INTO THE NEW BUILDING. HOSPITAL CEO CURT COLEMAN SAYS LEASE NEGOTIATIONS HAVE NOT BEEN COMPLETED, BUT SHOULD BE SOMETIME IN THE NEXT MONTH. HE SAID PLANS NOW CALL FOR CONSTRUCTION TO BEGIN SOMETIME NEXT YEAR, WITH OCCUPATION IN 2008. MEDICAL ASSOCIATES ARE CURRENTLY ON WEST QUARRY STREET, ACROSS FROM THE HOSPITAL TO THE SOUTH. I HEARD MAQUOKETA FAMILY CLINIC
ALSO CONSIDERED MOVING TO THE NEW BUILDING, FROM THEIR NORTH ARCADE STREET LOCATION, BUT APPARENTLY HAVE DECIDED NOT TO.
THEIR OFFICES ARE NEWER AND A MAJOR ADDITION TO THEIR BUILDING WAS COMPLETED JUST A FEW YEARS AGO. IT IS HOPED A NEW CLINIC BUILDING WILL HELP ATTRACT MORE DOCTORS TO MAQUOKETA.
A NEW DOCTOR HAS LOCATED IN MAQUOKTA, BUT I HAVE SEEN NO
NEWS RELEASE ABOUT HER, SO CAN'T GIVE YOU ANY INFORMATION AT THIS TIME.

AND THIS IS INTERESTING, AT THIS WEEK HOSPITAL BOARD MEETING, CEO COLEMAN TOLD THE BOARD THAT THE HEALTH INSURACE FROM WELLMARK FOR HOSPITAL EMPLOYEES HAS NOT INCREASED ITS PREMIUMS FOR THE PAST 3 YEARS AND THE BOARD MEMBERS APPROVED THE PROPOSED HEALTH INSURANCE PLAN FOR NEXT YEAR. NO INCREASE FOR 3 YEARS?
