MOSTLY CLOUDY TODAY, WITH A HIGH OF 35.
COLD WEEKEND AHEAD.

STEVE FLYNN, OF MAQUOKETA, WHO SERVED ON THE MAQUOKETA CITY COUNCIL FOR 8 YEARS, FROM 1996 TO 2004, IS RUNNING, AS A DEMOCRAT, FOR THE JACKSON COUNTY BOARD OF SUPERVISORS. HE WILL SEEK THE POST BEING VACATED BY RETIRING LONGTIME REPUBLICAN, JC ENGEL.
FLYNN IS MANAGER OF CENTURY READY MIXED CONCRET, JUST NORTH OF MAQUOKETA.

MAQUOKETA HAS AN ANIMAL CONTROL ORDINANCE THAT PROHIBITS PIT BULLS IN THE CITY. BROOKE SCHUMACHER AND ANDREW ROBERTS BROUGHT THEIR PET PIT BULL TO THE COUNCIL MEETING LAST NIGHT
AND MADE A PLEA TO THE COUNCIL TO LET THEM KEEP THEIR DOG THAT THEY HAVE HAD FOR 4 YEARS IN THE CITY. THE NOTICE TO GET RID OF THE DOG CAME AFTER THE POLICE RECEIVED A CALL ABOUT THE DOG.
OFFICER BRENDAN ZEIMET SAW ROBERTS WALKING THE DOG AND DISCOVERED IT WAS A PIT BULL. THE COUPLE APPEALED THE POLICE
ABATEMENT TO THE CITY MANAGER AND HE TOOK THE NEXT STEP, OF TAKING THE ISSUE TO THE CITY COUNCIL. SCHUMACHER, DID ALL THE TALKING (WHILE THE DOG WAS LYING AT THEIR FEET) AND GAVE A WELL PREPARED PRESENTATION TO THE COUNCIL, INCLUDING SOME FACTS ON PIT BULLS. ONE STATISTIC IT THAT THERE WERE 4.7 MILLION DOG BITES IN THE USA LAST YEAR AND ONLY 1 PERCENT OF THOSE WERE BY PIT BULLS. SHE CALLED HER DOG PRACTICALLY A KID. TO MAKE A LONG STORY SHORT, THE COUNCIL AGREED THE COUPLE COULD KEEP THEIR DOG, PENDING THE COUNCIL REVIEW OF THE ORDINANCE. THE GUESS IS.... THE CITY WILL REWORD THE ORDINANCE AND NOT SPECIFY BREEDS OF DOGS IN IT.

KELEEN ANN BLOCK DAVIDSON, AGE 36, DIED LAST NIGHT AT HER HOME IN MAQUOKETA AND SERVICES ARE PENDING AT THE CARSON AND SON FUNERAL HOME IN MAQUOKETA.

PLAN TO ATTEND THE KMAQ FARM AND HOME SHOW THIS THURSDAY AND FRIDAY.
