NICE DAY AGAIN...BREEZY AND HIGH AROUND 80.
CLOSE TO 85 PREDICTED FOR WEEKEND.
AT ROTARY TODAY, GOT AN UPDATE ON RENOVATION OF CLINTON ENGINES BUILDING BY
CHARLES AND BONNIE (WELLS) MITCHELL.
BONNIE IS CURATOR AND HUSBAND IS LEADING UP THE RESTORATION EFFORT FOR THE FORMER OFFICE BUILDING, AND HE WILL BE THE GUIDING FORCE FOR A MUSUEM IN THE BUILDING.
THE WINDOW FRAMES, WHICH WERE GRAY, NOW ARE ORIGINAL RED, 3 COATS OF PAINT...AND THEY LOOK GREAT. INSTALLATION OF OVER 1,000 PANES OF GLASS STARTED TODAY. NEXT JOB WILL BE TO WASH ALL THE WINDOWS ONCE THEY ARE ALL INSTALLED. WORK ON RE-SEEDING THE LAWN WILL BE DONE THIS FALL....AND THERE WILL BE HEAT IN THE BUILDING SO INTERIOR WORK CAN BE DONE DURING THE WINTER MONTHS. ITS IS GOING TO BE A BIG PLUS FOR MAQUOKETA TOURISM WHEN IT IS OPENED SOMETIME NEXT YEAR. THEY HAVE BEEN TOLD THERE WERE WORKERS AT CLINTON OVER THE YEARS FROM 81 COMMUNITIES. IF YOU WORKED FOR CLINTON ENGINES, SEND EMAIL TO FOLKS THERE, TELLING THEM WHAT CITY YOU LIVED IN WHEN YOU WORKED FOR THE PLANT. THEY WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHICH CITIES MADE UP THE TOTAL. EMAIL TO museum@jciahs.com
A DAVENPORT WOMAN LEAD FOUR LAW ENFORCEMENT AGENCIES ON A TWO COUNTY CHASE FOR ABOUT AN HOUR THIS MORNING. THE INCIDENT STARTED AT 8:30 THIS MORNING WHEN LONGTIME DEPUTY ED CLARK SAW THE WOMAN STOPPED IN HER VEHICLE IN THE MIDDLE OF THE BELLEVUE-CASCADE ROAD NEAR OTTER CREEK. WHEN CLARK APPROACHED THE CAR, SHE TOOK OFF AND LEAD HIM ON A CHASE NORTH ON HIGHWAY 61 AT SPEEDS UP TO 100 MPH. OTHER DEPUTIES JOINED IN AND SET OUT STOP STICKS WITH POINTED TACKS AND SHE DROVE HER CAR AROUND THOSE. SHE THEN TURNED ON HIGHWAY 52 AND HEADED UP TOWARD BELLEVUE. ANY WAY, THE 40 YEAR OLD, WAS FINIALLY STOPPED NEAR SABULA AND WAS ARRESTED FOR ELUDING POLICE AND OTHER CHARGES. SHE MUST HAVE SEEN THE NEW HIT MOVIE "DUKES OF HAZARD".
NO DEATHS OR BIRTHS.
