55 YESTERDAY, 53 TODAY AND LOOKING FOR 60-DEGREE WEATHER TOMORROW.

YESTERDAY WAS DEADLINE FOR FILING FOR COUNTY OFFICES. THERE WILL BE ONE NOVEMBER CONTEST IN JACKSON COUNTY. CURRENT REPUBLICAN SUPERVISOR DAVID KENDALL OF BELLEVUE WILL BE OPPOSED BY DEMOCRAT LARRY KOOS OF LAMOTTE.
BOTH COUNTY INCUMBENT AUDITOR MIKE COTTON AND COUNTY SHERIFF RUSS KETTMAN, A DEMOCRAT, WILL HAVE NO COMPETITION IN THE PRIMARY. COTTON IS FROM SABULA AND KETTMAN FROM BELLEVUE.

FIRECALL THIS MORNING AND THE RESIDENTS OF THE APARTMENT WERE EVACUATED AFTER SMOKE FILLED THE UPPER APARTMENT AT 112 S. ELIZA. ASST. FIRE CHIEF AL MUHLHAUSEN SAID SOMEONE WAS MOVING INTO THE APARTMENT. THE POWER HAD BEEN OFF AND THERE WERE ITEMS ON THE KITCHEN STOVE. WHEN THE POWER WAS TURNED ON IN THE APARTMENT, THE BURNER WAS ON AND CAUGHT MATERIALS ON FIRE, CAUSING THE SMOKE. THE APARTMENT IS BEING RENTED BY LANDON USHER AND THE BUILDING OWNER IS TOM HARE.

THE PEACE PIPE PLAYERS LITTLE THEATRE GROUP WILL PUT ON THE MUSICAL "GYPSY" IN JUNE AND AUDITIONS FOR THE MUSICAL WILL TAKE PLACE THIS SATURDAY. VETERAN PPP DIRECTOR JOHN RANDOLPH BURROW WILL DIRECT AND THE MUSICAL DIRECTOR WILL BE ANNE PITCHER HAWKS.

ST. LOUIS CARDINAL BASEBALL STARTS MONDAY AFTERNOON ON KMAQ.....THE CARDINALS HOST THE BREWERS AND PRESIDENT BUSH WILL THROW OUT THE FIRST PITCH.
