OUR CONGRESSMAN BRUCE
BRALEY, IN WHITE SHIRT,
BEING INTERVIEWED
AT THIS TIME BY SHERI
MELVOLD. SHE ALSO TALKED
TO ST. SEN. ROGER STEWART
OF PRESTON WHO ACCOMPANIED
BRALEY ON HIS TOUR OF THE
RIVER NORTH OF MAQUOKETA.
MAQUOKETA WAS THE 9TH
CITY HE VISITED TODAY IN
HIS DISTRICT, EFFECTED BY
THE FLOOD. HE IS GOING TO
TRY TO HAVE JACKSON COUNTY
ADDED TO THE DISASTER LIST
FOR COUNTIES NEEDING FEDERAL ASSISTANCE BECAUSE OF THE FLOOD.
I'M SURE HE WILL GET THAT DONE.

GOT AN EMAIL YESTERDAY FROM PETE LEHMAN, LONGTIME MANAGER
OF THE J.C.PENNEY STORE IN MAQUOKETA, ASKING ABOUT THE LAKEHURST DAM.
HE HAD HEARD IT WENT OUT. IT WAS THE LAKE DELHI DAM THAT FAILED.
ANYWAY, PETE IS 89, LIVES DOWN SOUTH AND HE AND BETTY ARE DOING
FINE. I HAVE HIS EMAIL ADDRESS IF ANYONE WOULD LIKE IT.
YES...WE HAD A NICE J.C. PENNEY STORE ONCE. THE BUILDING IS GONE, ONE
OF THE BUILDINGS LOST IN THE BIG FIRE.

SATURDAY NIGHT, I WAS CROSSING THE STREET GOING TO THE THEATRE AND I
NOTICED HOW THE SUN WAS
SHINING DIRECTLY ON THE
HISTORIC HURST HOTEL
SOUTH OF THE THEATRE....JUST THE HOTEL, NOT EVEN THE CARS
TO THE BOTTOM. A GREAT
SITE....SO I QUICKLY GRABBED THE CAMERA OUT OF THE CAR AND TOOK THIS PHOTO.
THE HOTEL IS NOW AN
APARTMENT BUILDING FOR
SENIORS WHO QUALIFY. NOTE
THE STEEL FIRE STAIRS GOING
UP THE SIDE OF THE BUILDING.
THE TOP FLOOR HAS A COMMUNITY ROOM. IT'S A BEAUTIFUL BUILDING WITH A WINDING STAIRWAY UP THE MIDDLE.

GOV. CHET CULVER WAS JUST
ON KMAQ'S "JUST TALK" SHOW,
TO TALK ABOUT THE FLOOD
AND OFFERING HELP FROM
HIS OFFICE. THIS PHOTO WAS
TAKEN IN FRONT OF KMAQ.
ST. REP. TOM SCHUELLER,
AT LEFT, ACCOMPANIED HIM
ON HIS TOUR. ALSO
SUPERVIORS, FLYNN, KOOS,
AND WILLEY MADE THE TOUR,
AS DID SEN. STEWART. AS SOON AS HE GOT DONE ON KMAQ,
HE WAS INTERVIEWED BRIEFLY BY A TV STATION AND THEN ON
HIS WAY. MOST OF THE
FLOOD DAMAGE HE SAW THIS
MORNING IN THE MAQUOKETA AREA WAS TO THE THOUSANDS OF ACRES OF FARMLAND, MOSTLY CORN, THAT
WILL BE LOST.
CONG. BRALEY WILL BE IN MAQUOKETA AT 3 THIS AFTERNOON.
SUPERVISOR FLYNN JUST TOLD ME THE RIVER HAS OFFICIALLY CRESTED. IT'LL STAY THERE FOR AWHILE AND THEN GO DOWN. GOOD NEWS!
