TUESDAY DAILY REPORT

ANOTHER SUPER DAY....SUNNY, A LIGHT WIND AND MID 60'S....A LITTLE COOLER THAN EXPECTED BUT WELL OVER NORMAL.    WARMER TONIGHT,
AROUND 50 AND WE MIGHT HIT 70 TOMORROW.    RAIN COMING THURSDAY AND THURSDAY NIGHT, THEN SUNNY AND IN 50'S FRIDAY AND THROUGH
THE WEEKEND.
THE RECORD LOW ON THIS DAY, 8 ABOVE IN 1951.

GOOD WEATHER FOR ELECTION DAY.

GOOD WEATHER FOR FARMERS TO FINISH OFF THEIR CORN PICKING....
LIKE RICHARD ROCKROHR, WHO FARMS OFF PERSHING ROAD JUST
NORTH OF THE CITY LIMITS.     HE'S A FRIEND OF RED HENTON AND RED
TOOK ME OUT TO CHECK ON RICHARD'S PROGRESS WITH HIS 1992 GLEANER.    HE TOOK ME UP AND DOWN THE FIELD IN IT AND I TOOK A FEW PICTURES.    RICHARD'S FAMILY HAS BEEN AROUND FOR A LONG TIME, BUT RICHARD SPENT SOME GOOD YEARS IN EDUCATION, ETC. AT MT.
VERNON.    A FEW YEARS AGO HE CAME BACK TO THE HOME PLACE WHICH FEATURES GOOD SOIL AND EVEN A SPRING.      RICHARD DOES IT ALL....HE PLANTS THE BEANS AND CORN AND AT HARVEST TIME, BRINGS IN THE CROP WITH JUST THE HELP OF FRIEND OR TWO.    A NICE GUY  (DIDN'T GET HIS NAME) WAS HAULING THE SHELLED CORN TODAY FOR RICHARD.)   RICHARD ALSO HAS TIME TO DO SOME CONTRACT CUSTOM WORK AND THIS AUGUST, HE HIRED A FLYER TO PLANT SOME RADISHES (THEY ARE GROWING) TO HELP FURTHER CONTROL EROSION ON  HIS NO-TILL ACRES.   THE GLEANER COMBINE WORKS GOOD YET, BUT NEEDS TWEAKING EVERY YEAR AND RICHARD DOES THAT TOO.    HE ONCE WAS HEAD MAINTENANCE MAN FOR A SCHOOL DISTRICT (A MASTER ELECTRICIAN TOO) AND NOW WHEN HE HAS TIME, HELPS WITH PROJECTS AT MAQUOKETA'S TWO MUSEUMS.    HIS WIFE,  HELEN (A MITCHELL OF MITCHELL-MASKREY FAME) ALSO ENJOYS DOING HISTORICAL THINGS.
LET'S PICK SOME CORN.....

WHEN I GOT OFF THE GLEANER, RED AND HIS RED SUV WERE GONE.
I WALKED INTO THE NEARBY WOODS AND THERE DOWN BY THE RIVER
WAS RED TRYING TO GET BACK ON THE TRAIL, TO NO AVAIL.   RICHARD WAS CALLED TO THE RESCUE AND HELPED RED GET BACK UP THE HILL.
ANXIOUS MOMENTS, BUT NO HARM DONE.

RED AND RICHARD, IT WAS FUN....BUT IT WAS GOOD TO GET BACK TO MY
AIR-CONDITIONED, NO-DUST OFFICE AT KMAQ.    OH YES, RICHARD SAID
THE YIELD HAS BEEN GOOD THIS FALL AND FOR HIM, ESPECIALLY THE
BEANS.   AND OH YES AGAIN...PRICES ARE DOWN BUT RICHARD SAID YOU
CAN'T HAVE EVERYTHING.

IN AN EFFORT TO HELP PUT SHOES ON THE FEET OF PEOPLE IN NEED AND RAISE SOME FUNDS, THE JACKSON COUNTY HUMANE SOCIETY IS ACCEPTING DONATIONS OF USED, BUT WEARABLE, SHOES THROUGH NOVEMBER 20TH.    SHELTER REPRESENTATIVE SHIRLEY SCHOLTES SAID THE SHELTER IS PARTNERING WITH A SHOE COMPANY FOR THIS PROJECT, WHICH WILL GIVE THE SHOES TO NEEDY INDIVIDUALS IN THE U.S. AND
THIRD-WORLD COUNTRIES.    THE ANIMAL SHELTER NORTHEAST OF MAQUOEKTA WILL RECEIVE A PER-POUND FEE FOR HANDLING AND BAGGING THE SHOES.   THE PUBLIC AND DELIVER THE SHOES TO THE HUMANE
SOCIETY ON DARK  HOLLOW ROAD BETWEEN NOON AND 5 P.M.
