THE MAQUOKETA SCHOOL BOARD MEETS TONIGHT. THEY MIGHT HIRE A NEW MIDDLE SCHOOL PRINCIPAL.
AN ACCIDENT ON SOUTH JONES, SATURDAY AFTERNOON, INVOLVED 2 VEHICLES. ONE DRIVEN BY RONALD GOHLMAN, 62, AND THE OTHER BY JIM KIRK, AGE 74. EACH MAN WAS BACKING OUT OF HIS DRIVEWAY AND THEIR CARS COLLIDED IN THE MIDDLE OF THE STREET. NO ONE INJURED.
DOUGLAS MANDERS, AGE 46, OF MAQUOKETA , DIED FRIDAY AT FINLEY HOSPITAL IN DUBUQUE, FROM CANCER . IN 1992 HE UNDERWENT A SUCCESSFUL LIVER TRANSPLANT AND WAS KNOWN AS IOWA'S LONGEST SURVIVOR OF A LIVER TRANSPLANT. IT WAS NOT RELATED TO HIS DEATH. HIS OBITUARY IS AT www.carsonandson.com HE MOST RECENTLY HAD BEEN A REALTOR FOR MCDONALD'S REALTY IN MAQUOKETA.
EDWARD SAID, 82, OF ORLANDO AND FORMERLY OF MAQUOKETA, DIED FRIDAY IN WINTER PARK.
HE FARMED NORTH OF MAQUOKETA AND OWNED HIS OWN TRUCKING COMPANY, RETIRING IN 1988.
HE IS SURVIVED BY A DAUGHTER IN FLORIDAY, DIANA, AND TWO SONS, DAVID AND DENNIS, BOTH IN WISCONSIN.
CLELLA CAVEN, AGE 98, OF MAQUOKETA, DIED SATURDAY. HER OBITURARY ALSO CAN BE VIEWED AT CARSON'S.
