CLOUDY TODAY....LOW 30'S.....BUT ROADS BETTER.
RAIN AND 40 DEGREES TOMORROW....SHOULD GET RID OF SOME ICE.

FIRE DAMAGED A HOME ON WEST SUMMIT LAST NIGHT....THE FORMER
MANNING NURSING HOME.    THE FAMILY LIVING THERE WAS LUCKY TO SMELL
SMOKE AND GOT OUT WITHOUT HARM.   JACK KING AND HIS WIFE AND HER CHILDREN LIVE THERE.    THE FIRE WAS LIKELY CAUSED BY DEFECTIVE WIRING
IN THE ATTIC.    ESTIMATED DAMAGE, $40,000.     SOME ELECTRICAL WORK WILL HAVE TO BE DONE BEFORE THE FAMILY CAN RETURN.   THERE WERE 12 CATS IN THE HOME AND ALL ARE OKAY.    IT WAS THE FIRST FIRE CALL OF 2010.

KMAQ FARM AND HOME SHOW AT THE FAIRGROUNDS IN MAQUOKETA.    ON THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 11TH, VIRGIL SCHMIDT, IOWA STATE UNIVERSITY EXTENSION CROP SPECIALIST  FOR TEN AREA COUNTIES, WILL TALK ABOUT WHAT IS AHEAD FOR GRAIN FARMERS.      FRIDAY, TWO SPEAKERS:     AT NOON, BRUCE GAARDER FROM THE IOWA CORN GROWER'S ASSOCIATION WHO WILL TALK ABOUT ETHANOL.    AND AT 12:30,  JOHN WEBER OF DYSTART, THE PRESIDENT-ELECT OF THE IOWA PORK PRODUCERS ASSOCIATION TO SPEAK ON THE CURRENT STATUS OF THE PORK INDUSTRY.     PLAN TO COME BOTH DAYS.    FREE ADMISSION.
NEW THIS  YEAR.....T-N-T ICE CREAM CONES IN THE FOOD BAR.

THE MAQUOKETA  ART EXPERIENCE  LOCATED  IN THE OSTERHAUS BUILDING IN DOWNTOWN MAQUOKETA, ANNOUNCED THIS WEEK, NEW HOURS.     THURSDAY AND FRIDAY EACH WEEK FROM 2 UNTIL 8 P.M.      SATURDAY AND SUNDAY, FROM 12 NOON UNTIL 5 P.M.    AND THEY HOST A WEEKLY "DRAWING" SESSION FROM 1 UNTIL 4 P.M.
