SUNDAY DAILY

WE WENT TO THE BIG BAND SHOW LAST NIGHT AT OHNWARD FINE ARTS
CENTER.   WENT EARLY TO VIEW THE "FESTIVAL OF TREES".   THE 13TH
ANNUAL FESTIVAL IS REALLY NICE.   ENJOY A FEW PHOTO....
STOP AND SEE THE FESTIVAL ANYTIME BETWEEN NOW AND THROUGH
NEXT SUNDAY.....FREE ADMISSION.   YOU CAN BUY A WREATH OR
TREE IF YOU LIKE.

THE KEN KILLIAN BIG BAND SHOW WAS VERY GOOD AND INCLUDED A LOT OF CHRISTMAS MUSIC.   ATTENDANCE WAS OKAY, BUT SHOULD HAVE BEEN BETTER.
RICH HALL DID HIS USUAL GOOD JOB DOING INTRODUCTION TO SHOW
AND PLUGGING THE SPONSORS.    AND...FUNNY OR  NOT...HE GETS A
LAUGH TO KEEP HIM HAPPY.

WILL HAVE SOME BIG LOCAL BUSINESS NEWS,  HOPEFULLY NEXT WEEK.

SATURDAY DAILY

THE NEW SAVANNA-SABULA BRIDGE OPENEND TO TRAFFIC YESTERDAY
AFTERNOON.   TOP PHOTO, THE NEW IN BLUE AND THE OLD IN THE BACKGROUND.    ABOVE PHOTO, NEW BRIDGE AT LEFT AND OLD AT RIGHT.


THE NEW CHRISTMAS SNOWFLAKES IN DOWNTOWN MAQUOEKTA.



IT WAS "DOLLAR DAY" TODAY AT THE GOODWILL STORE DOWTOWN.   THIS
WAS THE LINE WAITING TO GET IN WHEN THE DOORS OPENED AT 9.   THE
PARKING LOT WAS FULL FOR HOURS.

GOOD TURN OUT AT 1 THIS AFTERNOON FOR THE "RIBBON CUTTING" CEREMONY AT THE PAVILION AT PRAIRIE CREEK.    WITH FREE 
REFRESHMENTS, AND A BLAZING FIREPLACE..... AROUND 75 PEOPLE WERE ON HAND TO ADMIRE THE NEW BUILDING.  NO ACTUAL RIBBON TO CUT,
BUT A NICE PROGRAM WAS PRESENTED INSIDE.
JESSICA WAGNER, FROM THE CONSERVATION OFFICE, EMCEE.
CHRIS CORNELIUS, MEMBER OF FRIENDS OF JACKSON COUNTY
CONSERVATION.
EMILY HIGHWRM, NATURALIST FROM JACKSON COUNTY CONSERVATION,
AND WORKING HER LAST DAY AFTER 2 1/2 YEARS HERE.  TAKING
SIMILIAR JOB AT PRAIRIE Du SHIEN, WISCONSIN.
KATHIE ATKINSON, ALSO MEMBER OF THE FRIENDS GROUP.
AND..... LAST TO MAKE COMMENTS, DARREL PARKER, DIRECTOR FOR  OVER
20 YEARS OF JACKSON COUNTY CONSERVATION.
LOOKING EAST OUT OF THE PAVILION.  
THIS IS THE OUTDOOR PATIO OVERLOOKING  THE AREA IN PHOTO ABOVE.
THERE ARE 9 PICNIC TABLES, SO THERE WILL BE SEATING FOR AROUND 75 ...THESE 3 AND 6 INSIDE INSIDE.   ROOM TO  MOVE THESE 3 INSIDE IF
NEEDED.   ALL 9  TABLES MADE AND DONATED BY NICK MEYER OF
MAQUOKETA.

THURSDAY DAILY

THIS IS THE NEW  ENTRANCE SIGN FOR PRAIRIE CREEK RECREATION AREA
AT THE EAST EDGE OF MAQUOKETA.    THIS BLACK METAL SIGN IS
ATTACHED TO THE BIG BOULDER AND THE SIGN WAS MADE BY CLETUS
GERARDY OF GERARDY WELDING AT 5762 CAVES ROAD, MAQUOKETA.
TERRIFIC JOB.    SATURDAY AFTERNOON, DRIVE BY THIS SIGN ON THE
NEW 2-LANE ASPHALT ROAD  DOWN TO THE PAVALION.   THERE WILL BE
A RIBBON-CUTTING CEREMONY OF THE PAVALION AT 1:15.

THE NEW WALKING AND BIKE BRIDGE OVER THE MAQUOKETA RIVER AT THE
NORTH EDGE OF MAQUOKETA IS LOOKING GOOD.   THE PIERS ARE FROM
THE OLD VEHICLE BRIDGE REPLACED MANY YEARS AGO JUST TO THE
EAST.     THE MAQUOKETA TRAIL WILL CROSS HERE AND GO NORTH TO
THE HURSTVILLE INTERPRETIVE CENTER.



THE NEW SAVANNA-SABULA BRIDGE OVER THE MISSISSIPPI RIVER OPENS
TOMORROW AFTER A 1 P.M. RIBBON CUTTING.    PHOTOS TOMORROW.



KUHLMAN MOTORS IS CLOSING IN DECEMBER.   THE BUSINESS WAS STARTED BY RANDY AND VICKIE KUHLMAN IN 2009.    THE INVENTORY  HAS BEEN SOLD TO FINNIN FORD IN DUBUQUE.     THE KUHLMAN'S DID NOT SELL THE BUILDING OR LAND.

1,597 VOTED YESTERDAY IN JACKSON COUNTY, 19% OF ELIGIBLE VOTERS.
IN MAQUOKETA, 17% WENT TO VOTE.    ABOVE TWO NEW COUNCILMAN.
AT LEFT, JACOB BAKER, A MAQUOKETA MINISTER.    HE DEFEATED RICHARD E. STIMMEL FOR A FOUR YEAR TERM REPRESENTING MAQUOKETA'S 4TH
WARD.    AT RIGHT, MARK LYON, ELECTED TO FILL A VACANCY IN THE 5TH
WARD FOR A TWO YEAR PERIOD.   HE DEFEATED JASON JAMES.    IN THE
MIDDLE, INCUMBANT JOSH COLLISTER, COUNCIL-AT-LARGE, ELECTED FOR
ANOTHER 4 YEAR TERM.   HE DEFEATED ERICA BARKER.  HE'S MAQUOKETA'S LONGTIME BAKER, OWNER OF "SWEET THINGS BAKERY" DOWNTOWN.
JESSICA KEAN IS ALSO A NEW COUNCIL MEMBER.   I HAVE NO PHOTO
OF HER.   SHE STARTS A FOUR YEAR TERM REPRESENTING THE 2ND WARD AND HAD NO COMPETITION YESTERDAY.    ALSO RUNNING UNOPPOSED AND
WINNING ANOTHER TWO YEAR TERM AS MAYOR, DON SCHWENKER.   NO
PHOTO OF HIM EITHER.   THE THREE NEW COUNCIL MEMBERS REPLACE
AMY MOORE AND CORY SIMONSON, WHO DID NOT SEEK RE-ELECTION
AND CECIL BENTLEY WHO MOVED FROM THE CITY.   THE THREE NEW COUNCIL WINNERS WILL JOIN JOSH AND THREE OTHER MEMBERS IN ATTENDING AT LEAST 35 EVENING MEETINGS THIS YEAR.

AT MAQUOKETA ROTARY TODAY, ROTARY PRESIDENT BRIAN SPANNAGEL
PRESENTED A $500 CHECK FROM ROTARY TO THE MAQUOKETA COMMUNITY
CUPBOARD.   ACCEPTING IT, BECKY SONSTEGARD AND PASTOR JEFF
DADISMAN.   BECKY HAS BEEN A LONGTIME VOLUNTEER AT THE CUPBOARD AND JANUARY FIRST BECOMES MANAGER AND AT A NEW LOCATION, STILL
TO BE ANNOUNCED.    PASTOR JEFF IS PRESIDENT OF THE MAQUOKETA
MINISTERIAL ASSOCIATION THAT MORE OR LESS OVERSEES THE CUPBOARD.

FOR RE-ELECTION WITH NO OPPONENT.
JESSICA KEAN WILL BE ON THE BALLOT TOO...A
A NEWCOMER WITH NO ONE OPPOSING HER EITHER.
I WILL VOTE FOR FELLOW ROTARIAN MARK LYON
AND FOR LONG TIME BUSINESSMAN JOSH
COLLISTER.   I AM  NOT IN THE 4TH WARD AND
THEREFORE I CAN NOT VOTE FOR MY GODSON
RICHARD E. STIMMEL.   HE WOULD BE A GOOD
COUNCILMAN.
