MAQUOKETA HAS A NEW MAYOR WHO WILL TAKE OFFICE JANUARY 1ST.

MAYOR TOM MESSERLI, 398 VOTES
PAUL HAHLE, 309 VOTES
JIM SEWARD, 61 VOTES

NEW MEMBERS OF THE COUNCIL:
AMY MOORE WHO DEFEATED MELODIE SCHUELLER, 226 TO 65
ERIC PAPE, WHO DEFEATED BRUCE DROESSLER 181 TO 68
DON SCHWENKER WHO RAN UNOPPOSED
AND TODD MANG WHO RAN UNOPPOSED

1215 TOTAL VOTES CAST, JUST 26% OF THE ELIGIBLE VOTERS WENT TO THE
POLLS AND VOTED TODAY.

THE BIG JACKSON COUNTY HISTORICAL SOCIETY HERITAGE DINNER AND
HALL OF FAME CEREMONY WILL BE THIS SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 8TH AT THE
PEARSON CENTER AT THE FAIRGROUNDS IN MAQUOKETA,, FROM 2:30 UNTIL
7 P.M.     AT 2:30, A NATIVE AMERICAN ROCK ART SHOW FROM NORTHEAST
IOWA.   AT  3:30, THE HALL OF FAME CEREMONY.
AT 4 P.M., THE DINNER BEGINS, BY THE CORNER STOP IN SPRAGUEVILLE
AND AT 7 P.M. THE RESULTS OF THE SILENT AUCTION.  TICKETS ARE THE
DOOR FOR THE DINNER, $10
EVERYONE IS INVITED.   THERE IS ALWAYS A BIG TURN-OUT.   HOPE TO SEE
YOU THERE.

RICK GARIEN, LIFELONG MAQUOKETA RESIDENT,  WAS STRICKEN WITH AN UNKNOWN ILLNESS THIS AUGUST AND WAS IN THE HOSPITAL IN IOWA CITY
AND ROCHESTER.   HE WAS LONGTIME EMPLOYEE OF GARIEN PLUMBING.
TO HELP WITH EXPENSES, THERE WILL BE A BENEFIT THIS SATURDAY.
SOFTBALL TOURNAMENT AND BOWLING TOURNAMENT AT TIMBER LANES,
AND DINNER AT THE EAGLES CLUB FROM 4  UNTIL 7.   

AT THE CITY COUNCIL MEETING LAST NIGHT, THE COUNCIL DISCUSSED
PAVING WASHINGTON STREET BY THE HIGH SCHOOL.    THE COUNCIL WAS
INFORMED THAT THE PROJECT WAS NOT A MAINTENANCE PROJECT AS THEY HAD BELIEVED, BUT INSTEAD, A NEW CONSTRUCTION PROJECT AND THEREFORE REQUIRED AN ENGINEERING SERVICE, AT A COST OF  NEARLY $9,000.   THE  $67,000 PROJECT WILL NOW NOT BE DONE UNTIL NEXT SPRING.

CLIFFORD COOK, AGE 43,  OF MAQUOKETA WAS IN A ONE-CAR ACCIDENT AT 9 THIS MORNING NEAR THE INTERSECTION OF EAST QUARRY AND ANDERSON STREETS.
HE LOST CONTROL OF HIS PICKUP AND STRUCK  AN ELECTRIC POLE.     DAMAGE TO HIS CHEVY S-10 WAS $1,500 AND HE WAS TAKEN TO THE MAQUOKETA HOSPITAL
FOR TREATMENT OF INJURIES.    HE WAS ALONG IN HIS VEHICLE.

THE JACKSON SOIL AND WATER CONSERVATION DISTRICT AWARDS BANQUET
IS NOVEMBER 17TH AT 6 P.M. AT CLINTON ENGINES MUSEUM.     TICKETS ARE
$11 AND ANYONE THAT BELIEVES IN THE IMPORTANCE OF CONSERVATION
IS URGED TO ATTEND AND CONGRATULATE THE AWARD WINNERS.
