BEAUTIFUL DAY YESTERDAY...81 THE HIGH.
BREEZY, MOSTLY CLOUDY AND COOLER TODAY.

MAQUOKETA LOST THEIR FOOTBALL GAME FRIDAY NIGHT IN THE LAST 5 SECONDS OF THE GAME.

JACKSON COUNTY HAS A NEW WINERY....BRUSH CREEK WINERY....LOCATED
NORTH OF ANDREW, A SHORT DISTANCE OFF OF HIGHWAY 62. IT IS OWNED BY KEITH AND SHERRY WEUSTE OF ANDREW. KEITH IS THE ASSISTANT LOCKMASTER AT THE DUBUQUE LOCK AND DAM AND SHERRY WORKS FOR A REAL ESTATE OFFICE IN DUBUQUE. THEY HAVE BEEN GROWING GRAPES FOR ABOUT 8 YEARS AND THIS SUMMER STARTED THE WINERY, INSTEAD OF SELLING TO OTHER WINERIES. THEY BROUGHT THEIR WINE SELECTION TO THE ANNUAL MAQUOKETA AND BELLEVUE ROTARY CLUB DINNER LAST NIGHT AT THE YMCA. LOTS OF TASTING AND LOTS OF GOOD COMMENTS BY ROTARIANS. I MUST HAVE TASTED
6 OR 7 KINDS AND BOUGHT A BOTTLE OF TWO FAVORITES. SOME I TASTED:
IRON BRIDGE RED, RAZZY RED, CHERRY-CHERRY, BY THE DAM GOOD WINE, SUMMER DAZE, BLUFF MILLS RED, HOOK-LINE & SINKER, AND BLUE HERON. IF YOU LIKE WINE (WINE IS GOOD FOR YOUR HEALTH) YOU WILL WANT TO VISIT THE NEW WINERY SOON. JACKSON COUNTY'S OTHER WINERY IS THE TABOR WINERY NORTH OF BALDWIN, NOW A GOOD 10 YEARS OLD AND GROWING.

MAQUOKETA SCHOOL BOARD MEETING TONIGHT.

DARREN AND ASHLEY STEFFEN OF MAQUOKETA ARE PARENTS OF A BOY, BORN WEDNESDAY AT MERCY HOSPITAL IN DUBUQUE.

SEE THE NEW PHOTO BELOW.

HAVE A GOOD WEEK.

THE "HURSTVILLE FISHING POND" IS ON THE SAME COUNTY CONVERSATION LAND
THAT THE HURSTVILLE INTREPRETIVE CENTER IS ON. IT IS LOCATED ACROSS
4-LANE HIGHWAY 61 FROM THE INTREPRETIVE CENTER. YOU GET TO THE POND (FORMED DURING THE BUILDING OF HIGHWAY 61 AND CALLED A BORROW-PIT BY THE D.O.T.) BY TAKING THE FIRST COUNTY ROAD (PAVED) TO THE SOUTH OF POND, AND THEN GO A SHORT DISTANCE ON THAT ROAD AND TURN RIGHT ON THE GRAVEL ROAD AND THAT ROAD WILL TAKE YOU TO A PARKING LOT AT THE EDGE OF THE POND. A NEW DOCK WAS DEDICATED LAST WEEK. STANDING ON THAT
DOCK (ABOVE PHOTO) ARE THOSE REPRESENTING INDIVIDUALS OR GROUPS THAT CONTRIBUTED TO THE DOCK FUND. FROM LEFT TO RIGHT: ROB WAACK FROM THE MAQUOKETA OPTIMIST CLUB....GREG, TATE, CAROLYN AND JASMINE MARTIN, IN MEMORY OF CARTER MARTIN....JEANNE AND JOHN HOESLEY, FROM FRIENDS OF JACKSON COUNTY CONSERVATION....DR. DAVID SYBESMA FROM THE MAQUOKETA
KIWANIS CLUB....AND, ATTORNEY TOM BREUCH FROM THE MAQUOKETA AREA COMMUNITY FOUNDATION. NOT PICTURED, SOMEONE FROM THE COMMUNITY FOUNDATION OF THE GREAT RIVER ROAD. IT IS A NICE LITTLE POND AND I UNDERSTAND THE FISHING IS GOOD. CLICK-ON THE PHOTO TO ENLARGE...CLICK AGAIN AND IT WILL ENLARGE MORE. OR...IF THAT WON'T WORK, YOU CAN "ZOOM-IN" ON THE PHOTO, ONCE...OR TWICE. NOW...3 FISHING HOLES IN THE TIMBER CITY....YES, MAQUOKETA RESIDENTS AND VISITORS CAN NOW FISH THE MAQUOKETA RIVER, HORSESHOE POND AT THE SOUTH EDGE OF
MAQUOKETA AND AT THE HURSTVILLE FISHING POND.
