THE NEW WOOD SHINGLE LONG-LASTING ROOF IS ON (THANKS TO GOOD
WEATHER) THE FORMER LaMOTTE NARROW GUAGE RAILROAD DEPOT
THAT WAS MOVED THIS SUMMER TO A SPOT NEAR THE CLINTON ENGINES
MUSEUM IN MAQUOKETA. THE MASTERMIND AND DRIVING FORCE BEHIND
NOT ONLY SHINGLING, BUT REMOVING THE ROOF FOR TRANSPORT, THE
MOVE DOWN THE HIGHWAY, ETC. WAS KEVIN BROWN OF BELLEVUE.
HE PUT DOWN EVERY SHINGLE WITH THE HELP OF THE OTHER "DEPOT
GUYS", HAROLD LUBBEN, RICH ROCKROHR, PHIL GENT, TOM SCHWENKER,
MARK STREFF, AND DAVID KENDELL. KEVIN BROWN IS ALSO ON THE
JACKSON COUNTY HISTORICAL SOCIETY BOARD AND IS THE SOCIETY'S
TREASURER. NEXT YEAR AT THIS TIME, THOUSANDS WILL HAVE TOURED
THE DEPOT (AFTER RESTORATION WORK IS COMPLETED) AND IT WILL BE
DECORATED FOR CHRISTMAS.
THE FORMER FAMILY DOLLAR STORE WILL SOON COME ALIVE AS A
"DOLLAR TREE" STORE NEAR THE HIGHWAYS 61 AND 64 INTERSECTION.
THE HOUSE ABOVE, ON WEST PLATT NEAR DOWNTOWN, LOOKS GOOD
DURING DAYTIME HOURS AND ESPECIALLY AT NIGHT.
