A SUNNY DAY IN MAQUOKETA....UPPER 40'S...TOMORROW 50 OR ABOVE.

THE MAQUOKETA GIRLS LOST TO DEWITT TUESDAY NIGHT, HERE IN TOWN. PRETTY GOOD GAME. THE
NIGHT BEFORE, THE DEWITT BOYS HOSTED THE CARDS AND WON BY 5 POINTS.

THE CARDINAL WRESTLERS ARE IN ACTION TONIGHT AT DYERSVILLE AGAINST DYERSVILLE AND VINTON.

THE NEW "PREMIER FURNITURE STORE" IN MAQUOKETA WILL BE OPENING SOON. THE SIGN IS UP. THE DELIVERY TRUCK IS IN THE FRONT PARKING LOT. IT OPENS IN SAME BUILDING ON NORTH MAIN STREET THAT WAS "BETTER HOMES" AND LATER, "OWL FURNITURE" STORES FOR MANY YEARS. AND BEFORE FURNITURE, IT WAS MAQUOKETA'S FIRST SUPER MARKET. DURING THOSE YEARS, HIGHWAY 61 WENT RIGHT PAST THE BUILDING.

CATS WOULD BE TREATED LIKE DOGS UNDER A PROPOSED MAQUOKETA CITY ORDINANCE. IN OTHER WORDS, THEY ARE TALKING ABOUT A CAT ORDINANCE FOR MAQUOKETA. WE ALREADY HAVE ONE FOR DOGS.
POLICE CHEIF BRAD KORANDA WAS INSTRUCTED TO GET A COPY OF DEWITT'S ORDIANCE AND A FEW OTHERS FROM THIS AREA AND REPORT BACK TO THE PUBLIC SAFETY COMMITTEE WHICH IS LOOKING THE POSSIBLE CAT ORDINANCE FOR THE TIMBER CITY. BRAD ESTIMATES THERE ARE 1,800 PETS IN MAQUOKETA.

CAROL CARPENTER, AGE 68, DIED WEDNESDAY AT HER HOME IN CORALVILLE. SURVIVED BY A SISTER, SUE SPALDING IN MAQUOKETA AND A BROTHER, DAVID SCHOENTHALER, OF BETTENDORF.
