THE MAQUOKETA GIRLS PLAYED AT MARION LAST NIGHT AND WON, 49 TO 39. THE BOYS DID NOT PLAY.
BELLEVUE MARQUETTE BOYS, RATED 2ND IN THE STATE, WERE UPSET LAST NIGHT BY PRINCE OF PEACE OF CLINTON.

THE JACKSON COUNTY BOARD OF SUPERVORS APPROVED THE COUNTY CONSERVATION BOARD REQUEST TO GET A 5 YEAR LOAN FROM THE DEPARTMENT OF NATURAL RESOURCES FOR THE HURSTVILLE INTERPRETIVE CENTER. THE LOAN IS A $20,000 FORGIVABLE LOAN AND A ZERO INTEREST LOAN OF $40,790. IT'S PART OF THE SOLID WASTE ALTERNATIVES PROGRAM. SUPERVIORS APPROVED THE LOAN, TO BE REPAID OVER 5 YEARS FROM THE MONEY RAISED AT THE CENTER.

THE MAQUOKETA CITY COUNCIL IS GOING AHEAD WITH PLANS TOR RAISE TAXES NO MORE THAN 40 CENTS PER $1,000 ASSESSED VALUATION. THE CITY HAS BEEN CUT BACK ON STATE FUNDS...WELL OVER $100,000. A PUBLIC HEARING ON THE PROPOSED TAX INCREASE WILL BE HELD MONDAY, MARCH 8TH.

STEVE FLYNN, MAQUOKETA BUSINESSMAN AND FORMER CITY COUNCILMAN, AND PHIL TABOR, ATTORNEY, AND FORMER COUNTY ATTORNEY, HAVE TAKEN ON THE POSITION OF CO-CHAIRMEN FOR THE RAGBRAI VISIT OF BIKERS TO MAQUOKETA IN JULY. MAGISTRATE COURT NEWS: CLINTON LAMAR, AGE 29, OF MAQUOKETA WAS CHARGED THIS MORNING WITH OWI AND DRIVING WHILE LICENSE SUSPENDED.
RANDY DAVIS, 48, OF MAQUOKETA, WAS CHARGED WITH ASSAULT YESTERDAY AFTERNOON FOR THREATENING TO HIT
ANOTHER MAQUOKETA MAN WITH AN AX HANDLE.
THOMAS CLASEN, 34, OF MAQUOKETA, WAS CHARGED WITH ASSAULT FOR HITTING A MAN IN THE MOUTH EARLY SUNDAY MORNING.
