MAQUOKETA POLICE WILL BE AT THE MAQUOKETA HIGH SCHOOL AGAIN TOMORROW AFTER ANOTHER GRAFFITTI THREAT WAS FOUND THIS WEEK.
POLICE CHIEF BRAD KORANDA SAID THE GRAFFITTI WAS FOUND IN A GIRL'S RESTROOM AT THE SCHOOL YESTERDAY AFTERNOON. THIS IS THE SECOND INCIDENT IN A WEEK. KORANDA SAID THE GRAFFITTI SAID..."I GOT THE WRONG DATE. IT'S NOW 4-10-08" IT WAS FOUND IN A GIRL'S RESTROOM, BUT NOT THE SAME ONE AS LAST WEEK. LAST WEEK, THE DATE WAS APRIL1...APRIL FOOL'S DAY.
THE CHIEF SAID OFFICERS WILL BE AT THE HIGH SCHOOL AGAIN THURSDAY.
BERTHA TAYLOR, AGE 93, OF TALLAHASSEE AND FORMERLY OF MAQUOKETA, DIED SATURDAY IN FLORIDA. A MEMORIAL SERVICE WILL BE HELD AT THE UNITED CHURCH OF CHRIST IN MAQUOKETA AT A LATER DATE TO BE ANNOUNCED. BURIAL WILL BE IN MT. HOPE CEMETERY. SHE WAS A TEACHER AND AFTER GETTING MARRIED, SHE KEPT THE BOOKS FOR THEIR PLUMBING AND HEATING BUSINESS IN MAQUOKETA UNTIL HER HUSBAND'S DEATH IN 1981. SHE IS SURVIVED BY A SON, TOM, IN TALLAHASSEE AND ONE GRANDDAUGHTER.
JACKIE JAN, AGE 72, OF DAVENPORT AND FORMERLY OF MAQUOKETA, DIED YESTERDAY. THE OBITUARY CAN BE READ AT http://www.carsonandson.com/

THE TNT CONE SHOP ON EAST PLATT STREET IS OPEN AND UNDER NEW OWNERSHIP.
IT IS CALLED "CHRISSY'S TNT CONE SHOP" AND THE NEW OWNERS ARE CHRISSY BAKER AND JASON HOSCH. THEY PURCHASED THE BUSINESS FROM GARY AND JOYCE TRACY OF MAQUOKETA, WHO RAN IT SINCE THE 1990'S. THANKS TO GARY AND JOYCE FOR RUNNING A GOOD BUSINESS AND BEING A LONGTIME ADVERTISER ON KMAQ. THEY SPEND THE WINTERS DOWN SOUTH AND NOW WILL BE FULLY RETIRED. AND GOOD LUCK TO JASON AND CHRISSY. JASON TOLD ME THEY WOULD LIKE TO ADD A DRIVE-UP WINDOWN SOME DAY.
