PARTY SUNNY, DRY AND HOT TODAY...IN 90'S.
THE JACKSON COUNTY SHERIFF'S DEPARTMENT AND AREA HUMANE SOCIETIES SEIZED 55 ANIMALS (INCLUDING FOUR COUGARS AND A BLACK BEAR) FROM A RURAL MAQUOKETA HOME LAST NIGHT.
THE SHERIFF'S DEPARTMENT HAD RECEIVED COMPLAINTS ABOUT ANIMALS WHICH HAD NOT BEEN CARED FOR. THE RESIDENCE IS THAT OF RANDY AND PAM GARIEN, 24922 - 81ST. STREET, RURAL MAQUOKETA.
WHEN LOCAL AUTHORITIES WENT TO THE DOOR, NO ONE ANSWERED.
A VETERINARIAN WITH THE LOCAL AUTHORITIES SAID SHE SAW HORSES IN A FIELD WITH AN ABUNDANCE OF CLUTTER, INCLUDING GLASS AND METAL OBJECTS. ONE HORSE HAD A LACERATED LEG WHICH DID NOT APPEAR TO BE HEALING WELL. SHE SAID THERE WAS ALSO A MINIMAL AMOUNT OF WATER FOR THE HORSES AND LACK OF HAY AND ANY TYPE OF FEED.
AND SOME OF THE HORSES WERE UNDERWEIGHT. THE BLACK BEAR WAS IN A CAGE AND THE FLOOR OF THE CAGE HAD OVER A FOOT OF THE BEAR'S OWN FECES. THERE WAS NO FOOD OR WATER IN THE CAGE.
SHE RECOMMENDED REMOVAL OF ALL THE ANIMALS. TAKEN WERE
11 HORSES, TWO COUGARS, A BLACK BEAR, TWO FOX, TWO CATS, 12 DOGS, 8 PUPPIES AND 15 CHICKENS. THE COUGARS AND BLACK BEAR WERE TRANQUILIZED IN THE FENCED IN AREAS BEFORE THEY WERE REMOVED.
