NICE BUT COOLER TODAY...HIGH OF 61.

MAQUOKETA PLAYS WESTERN DUBUQUE UP THERE TONIGHT AND NEEDS A WIN TO
GET INTO THE PLAYOFFS. THE CARDINAL'S DISTRICT RECORD IS 3 AND 2 AND
WESTERN DUBUQUE'S IS 2 AND 3. THE GAME WILL BE ON OUR WEB SITE AGAIN
TONIGHT AT 7:30.

IT IS OFFICIAL. THE MAQUOKETA ALDI'S (GROCERY) STORE WILL CLOSE DECEMBER 31ST. THE NEWS RELEASE SAYS THE LOCAL EMPLOYEES WILL BE OFFERED JOBS AT OTHER ALDI'S LOCATIONS.
IT HAS BEEN HERE FOR 24 YEARS. LAST MONTH, TWO NEW STORES WERE OPENED IN THE QUAD CITIES AND THERE ARE MORE THAN 11-HUNDRED STORES IN THE
CHAIN. THE BUILDING IS OWNED BY A CORPORATION BASED IN MORRISON, ILLINOIS. RUMOR HAS IT THAT IT HAS BEEN SOLD, BUT NOTHING OFFICIAL.
STACY DRISCOLL, MAQUOKETA'S ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT COORDINATOR SAID SHE HAS TRIED TO CONTACT THE CORPORATE OFFICE IN ILLINOIS TO SEE IF
ANYTHING COULD BE DONE TO KEEP A STORE IN MAQUOKETA AND THAT ALDI'S
HAS NOT RESPONDED TO HER INQUIRIES. MANY LOCAL CITIZENS WHO SHOP
THE STORE REGULARLY REPORT THAT THE STORE IS ALWAYS BUSY.
BUT, PROBABLY NOT AS BUSY AS ABOUT 6 YEARS AGO WHEN WAL MART
MOVED TO THE BIGGER STORE WITH A FULL GROCERY DEPARTMENT.
MY FINAL COMMENT: IN THE 24 YEARS ALDI'S HAS BEEN IN BUSINESS HERE,
I DON'T BELIEVE THEY HAVE SPENT MUCH MORE THAN $24 ADVERTISING ON KMAQ. AND WE HAVE SEVERAL OTHER CHAIN STORES THAT ALSO WILL NOT ADVERTISE ON KMAQ, AND DO LITTLE IN OTHER MEDIA AS WELL.

I WILL POST TONIGHT'S FOOTBALL SCORE HERE TOMORROW MORNING.

HAVE A NICE WEEKEND.
