PERFORMANCE AND TALK LED BY MAQUOKETA ARTIST ROSE FRANTZEN AND
COMPOSER (HER BROTHER) JOHN FRANTZEN WILL TAKE PLACE ON SATURDAY,
NOVEMBER 7TH AT 3 P.M. IN THE NAN TUCKER McEVOY AUDITORIUM AT THE
SMITHSONIAN INSTITUTE'S NATIONAL PORTRAIT GALLERY. THE PERFORMANCE
WILL SHOWCASE THE MUSIC AND SOUNDS INSPIRED BY ROSE FRANTZEN'S ARTWORK IN THE EXHIBITION "PORTRATURE NOW: COMMUNITIES".
FRANTZEN'S "PORTRAIT OF MAQUOKETA" FEATURES 180 PAINTINGS OF
RESIDENTS OF THE MAQUOKETA AREA. THE NOVEMBER 7TH AFTERNOON
PERFORMANCE WILL FEATURE A 28 MINUTE SURROUND-SOUND COMPOSITION
USING ORIGINAL MUSIC AND AUDIO CLIPS TAKEN BY JOHN FRANTZEN FROM
INTERVIEWS WITH SOME OF THE 180 RESIDENTS. THE NOVEMBER 7TH CONCERT
WILL BE PARTIALLY SUPPORTED BY A GRANT FROM THE MAQUOKETA AREA COMMUNITY FOUNDATION. QUITE A FEW MAQUOKETA PEOPLE ARE GOING TO WASHINGTON, D.C. TO SEE THE CONCERT AND VIEW THE PAINTINGS AT THE SMITHSONIAN. I BELIEVE A BUS IS GOING AND OTHERS ARE FLYING OUT. THE180 PORTRAITS WILL BE ON DISPLAY UNTIL NEXT SUMMER AND THEN WILL BE RETURNED TO MAQUOKETA AND BE ON DISPLAY HERE FOR TOURISTS. KMAQ MAY SPONSOR A BUS TRIP TO WASHINGTON, D.C. IN APRIL. THAT DECISION WILL
BE MADE SOON. I HAVE RECEIVED SOME INTEREST IN SUCH A TRIP.

WEIRUP OF MAQUOKETA.
THERE IS GOING TO BE "SPOOKFEST" THIS SATUDAY NIGHT AT THE OHNWARD
FINE ARTS CENTER IN MAQUOKETA. ADULTS FREE....KIDS $2.00 AND
FAMILIES, $5.00. A LOT OF FUN THINGS PLANNED. IT WILL START AT
6:30 P.M.
LOTS OF TALK ABOUT THE FLU AROUND MAQUOKETA.....BUT NO REAL PROBLEMS
AT THIS TIME.
