NICE DAY TODAY...HIGH OF 81

BILLS ARE COMING IN TO THE JACKSON COUNTY SUPERVISORS
FOR SERVICES NEEDED BY THE ANIMALS TAKEN FROM THE GARIEN
PROPERTY IN JULY. SO FAR, BILLS TOTAL $14,536, INCLUDING THE VET (DR. JENNIFER DOLL OF SOLON) BILL OF $5,897 AND THE EQUINE RESCUE LEAGUE BILL OF $8,368. STILL TO COME A BILL FROM THE CLINTON COUNTY HUMANE SOCIETY. AND MAYBE OTHERS? THE COUNTY WILL TRY TO HAVE THE GARIENS PAY THE COSTS. BUT, THE COUNTY MAY HAVE BEEN ILLEGAL IN GOING IN TOO EARLY TO TAKE THE ANIMALS. SO......THREE WORDS BEST DESCRIBE THE SITUATION....ITS A MESS.

AT THE SCHOOL BOARD MEETING LAST NIGHT, LESLIE LAWSON RESIGNED HER POSITION ON THE BAORD AFTER SERVING 5 YEARS IN THE AT-LARGE SEAT. SHE WORKS FOR THE ROCK ISLAND ARSENAL AND HAS BEEN ACCEPTED INTO THE DEPARTMENT OF ARMY'S ONE YEAR TRAINING PROGRAM. IT ALLOWS HER TO BE A FULLTIME COLLEGE STUDENT TO OBTAIN HER MASTERS IN BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION. THE BOARD WILL TRY AND NAME A REPLACEMENT AT THEIR SEPTEMBER MEETING AND THAT PERSON WOULD SERVE UNTIL THE 2007 SCHOOL BOARD ELECTION.
IT IS TOO LATE TO GET ON THIS SEPTEMBER'S BALLOT. THE SEAT IS OPEN TO ANYONE 18 OR OVER IN THE DISTRICT AND THOSE INTERESTED SHOULD CONTACT THE ADMINISTRATION OFFICE.

AT LAST NIGHT'S MEETING, BOB SHANAHAN WAS NAMED HEAD CROSS COUNTRY COACH AND WILL BE PAID $3,869.

TWO APPOINTMENTS MADE BY THE MAQUOKETA CITY COUNCIL.
LYNN BOPES WAS APPOINTED TO THE MAQUOKETA PUBLIC LIBRARY
BOARD. AND MARK LYON TO THE PARK AND RECREATION COMMISSION.

NO BIRTHS OR DEATHS.

THANKS FOR CHECKING IN.
