ASHER SCHROEDER, AGE 96, DIED LAST MONDAY AT HIS HOME IN MAQUOKETA.
HE WAS A GREAT MAN! HE WAS A ROTARIAN (LONGTIME TREASURER). I
LAST SAW HIM AT A MEETING IN DECEMBER. BORN AND RAISED IN MAQUOKETA,
HE GRADUATED AT MAQUOKETA HIGH SCHOOL AND GOT HIS LAW DEGREE FROM
THE UNIVERSITY OF IOWA. HE WAS DRAFTED INTO THE ARMY DURING WORLD
WAR II AND WAS TAKEN AS A PRISONER OF WAR IN GERMANY. AFTER RETURNING
FROM THAT HARDSHIP IN THE SERVICE, HE WAS A LAWYER IN MAQUOKETA. HE
SERVED AS JACKSON COUNTY ATTORNEY FOR 3 TERMS. HE WAS APPOINTED THE
U.S. ATTORNEY FOR THE NORTHERN DISTRICT OF IOWA AND WAS LATER
LEGAL COUNCIL FOR THE IOWA D.O.T. HE HELPED GET LOCAL OWNERSHIP
OF THE CLINTON ENGINES OFFICE BUILDING SO IT COULD BE TURNED INTO
THE MUSEUM IT IS NOW. HE IS SURVIVED BY 3 SONS IN IOWA AND A BROTHER
KARL IN MAQUOKETA. ALSO A SISTER IN ARIZONA, PLUS 3 GRANDCHILDREN.
THE FUNERAL WILL BE AT 10:30 THIS SATURDAY AT SACRED HEART CATHOLIC
CHURCH. CARSON CELEBRATION OF LIFE IS SERVING THE FAMILY. HE IS EASILY
ONE OF THE TOP 100 CITIZENS OF ALL TIME IN MAQUOKETA.
