SATURDAY, AN OPEN HOUSE WAS HELD FOR THE NEW JEHOVAH'S WITNESSES KINGDOM HALL ON WEST PLATT IN MAQUOKETA, ACROSS FROM McDONALD'S.
AFTER THE TOUR, GUESTS STOPPED BY AT THIS TENT FOR COFFEE AND COOKIES.
THE LOCAL CONGREGATION STARTED AS A SMALL GROUP IN A PRIVATE HOME IN THE 50S. THEN IT STARTED HAVING MEETINGS ON THE 2ND FLOOR OF THE
DIME STORE ON SOUTH MAIN. IN THE 60'S, A KINGDOM HALL WAS BUILDT
ON SOUTH MAIN WHERE AISE CHIROPRACTIC IS NOW. IN THE 80'S, IT PURCHASED
THE WEST PLATT BUILDING THAT HAD BEEN TEAHEN FUNERAL HOME. THE
BUILDING PRIOR THE THE FUNERAL HOME WAS BUILDT BY DR. D.O. MERRICK
FOR HIS VET OFFICE.
THIS SUMMER THE BUILDING WAS COMPLETLY RE-DONE, INSIDE AND OUT. THE
ORIGINAL CEILING WAS THE ONLY PART SAVED. ALL DONE BY VOLUNTEER
LABOR FROM JEHOVAH'S WITNESSES FROM NINE STATES. FOOD FOR THE WORKERS
WAS BROUGHT OVER FROM THE JW'S IN SAVANNA. SAFETY WAS A NUMBER 1 PRIORITY. ALL 400 VOLUNTEERS WERE REQUIRED TO TAKE A COURSE ON SAFETY.
CONSTRUCTION OVERSEERS WERE FROM WASHINGTON, OREGON, TEXAS AND
OKLAHOMA.
AUDIO AND VIDEO CONTROL PANEL.
QUITE A VOLUNTEER STORY!
