FOR THE 3RD DAY IN A ROW, NICE....SUNNY AND WARM...83 AGAIN FOR A HIGH.
COOLER WEATHER FOR THE HOLIDAY, WITH A SLIGHT CHANCE OF RAIN EACH
DAY.

ANOTHER MEMBER OF THE MAQUOKETA SCHOOL DISTRICT ADMINISTRATIVE
TEAM WILL BE LEAVING THE DISTRICT. BRIAN MORETZ, AN ASSISTANT
PRINCIPAL AT THE HIGH SCHOOL HAS ACCEPTED A POSITION OF PRINCIPAL IN GRADES 7 THROUGH 12 AT MONTEZUMA SCHOOL DISTRICT. HE HAS BEEN IN MAQUOKETA FOR 4 YEARS. HE IS THE 2ND PRINCIPAL TO LEAVE. MIDDLE SCHOOL PRINCIPAL AUTUMN PINO IS GOING TO PLEASANT VALLEY SCHOOL DISTRICT.

THERE WILL BE TWO POSITIONS OPEN THIS FALL FOR THE MAQUOKETA SCHOOL
BOARD. TERMS OF MARTY HUDLIK AND BRIAN TABOR WILL BE UP.
JULY 6TH IS FINAL DAY TO FILE. NOMINATION PAPERS CAN BE PICKED UP
AT THE COUNTY AUDITOR'S OFFICE.

THE MAQUOKETA OPTIMIST CLUB HELD THEIR RESPECT FOR THE LAW BANQUET LAST NIGHT. MARY ANN KUNDE, LONGTIME POLICE DISPATCHER (21 YEARS)
HAS RETIRED AND THE CLUB GAVE HER A PLAQUE. LONGTIME OPTIMIST, PAUL HARTELL, RECEIVED A PLAQUE FOR HIS HELP IN ORGANIZING THE MAQUOKETA POLICE RESERVES. ABOUT 70 PEOPLE ATTENDED THE BANQUET AT THE EAGLES CLUB IN MAQUOKETA AND ST. REP. TOM SCHUELLER WAS THE GUEST SPEAKER.
HE TALKED ABOUT NEW LAW ENFORCEMENT LAWS.
AND, MIKENZIE TAYLOR, DAUGHTER OF TIM AND TRACYH TAYLOR OF MAQUOKETA, IS THE RECIPIENT OF THIS YEAR'S $1,000 MAQUOKETA OPTIMIST CLUB SCHOLARSHIP. AND TWOLOCAL STUDENTS WON THE CLUB'S ORATORICAL CONTEST....ASHLEY BECKER, A 7TH GRADER , WON $75 FOR FIRST PLACE AND
MORGAN VERVECK, 7TH GRADER, GOT SECOND PLACE AND $50.

JESSICA AND LONNIE HOWEL OF BERNARDD ARE PARENTS OF A BOY BORN SUNDAY MORNING AT THE MAQUOKETA HOSPITAL. MATERNAL GRANDPARENTS ARE
SHIRLEY RISDEN AND CHARLES RISDEN, BOTH OF MAQUOKETA. PATERNAL
GRANDPARENTS ARE RONALD HOWELL, SR. AND SHARON HOWEL OF MAQUOKETA.

MICHAEL BERTHEL, AGE 45, OF DUBUQUE, DIED AFTER AN ACCIDENT ON THE JULIAN DUBUQUE BRIDGE. HE AT ONE TIME WORKED AT HAPPY JOE'S PIZZA IN MAQUOKETA. HIS IS SURVIVED BY 5 CHILDREN.

"NIGHT AT THE MUSEUM: BATTLE OF THE SMITHSONIAN" STARTS TOMORROW NIGHT AT THE 61 DRIVE-IN THEATRE. SUPPOSED TO BE A BIG HIT.
