COLD TODAY...ONLY 64, BUT SUNNY.

THE MAQUOKETA CITY COUNCIL OFFERED NO RAISES TO REPRESENTATIVES
OF TWO UNIONS REPRESENTING CITY EMPLOYEES.....THE UNION FOR
THE POLICE AND THE UNION FOR THE STREET DEPARTMENT. FURTHER
DELIBERATIONS WILL BE HELD IN CLOSED SESSSION LATE THIS MONTH OR
IN NOVEMBER.

THE MAQUOKETA MUNICIPAL ELECTRIC UTILITY BOARD APPROVED A NEW CONTRACT WITH ITS EMPLOYEE UNION. THE NEW 3 YEAR CONTRACT OFFERS 2 1/4 PERCENT PAY INCREASE THE FIRST YEAR AND 2.5 PERCENT THE SECOND AND THIRD YEARS. THE UNION REPRESENTS 19 EMPLOYEES.

A MAQUOKETA RTA BUS, DRIVEN BY GERALD MILLER, AGE 57 WAS INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT AROUND 8 THIS MORNING AT JACOBSEN AND MAPLE STREETS.
THE RTA BUS WAS STOPPED AND THEN PULLED OUT IN FRONT OF A VEHICLE
DRIVEN BY RONALD CORNELIUS, AGE 66, OF MAQUOKETA. NO ONE INJURED.
THE BUS HAD $8,000 ESTIMATED DAMAGE AND THE CORNELIUS SEED VEHICLE,
$7,000. MILLER WAS CHARGED.

IN BUSINESS NEWS, THE NEW CHINA CAFE IS PLANNING TO OPEN WITHIN 2 WEEKS.
A YOUNG CHINESE COUPLE WILL RUN IT AND WILL LIVE IN MAQUOKETA.

FROM 11 A.M. UNTIL 2 P.M. EACH DAY WILL BE A DIFFERENT BUFFET, MONDAY THROUGH FRIDAY. THE ITALIAN CUISINE RESTAURANT ALSO IS OPEN
WEDNESDAY THROUGH SATURDAY FROM 5 UNTIL 9 P.M. THE WEB SITE

SENATOR ROGER STEWART CELEBRATES HIS BIRTHDAY TOMORROW. WE DID A PRETTY BAD JOB OF SINGING HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO HIM AT ROTARY TODAY.
HE IS A LONGTIME MEMBER AND FORMER PRESIDENT OF THE CLUB.
HE IS IN HIS FINAL MONTHS AS SENATOR, AFTER SERVING FOR 8 YEARS AND
CHOOSING TO RETIRE DECEMBER 31ST. STILL WORKS PART TIME TOO AT
THE MAQUOKETA STATE BANK WHERE HE BEGAN AS A LOAN OFFICER IN THE EARLY 70'S. PUTS ON WORK CLOTHES ALSO......HELPING SON TOM WITH WORK AT THE
FAMILY FARM EAST OF MAQUOKETA.
