THE MAQUOKETA CITY COUNCIL COULD NOT AGREE ON WHO TO APPOINT AS THE FIRST WARD COUNCIL MEMBER AT THEIR MEETING LAST NIGHT. THERE WERE 5 PEOPLE WHO PUT IN THEIR NAME.
FOUR GAVE A SHORT SPEECH. ED TURNEY DID NOT WISH TO SPEAK. FIRST, A VOTE WAS MADE TO APPOINT KIM GALLOWAY AND IT ENDED UP A 3 TO 3 TIE. THEN, A MOTION WAS MADE TO APPOINT LORI CROUCH AND IT ALSO RESULTED IN A 3 TO 3 TIE. THERE WERE NO OTHER MOTIONS MADE. THE COUNCIL DECIDED TO HAVE A SPECIAL MEETING AT 5 NEXT MONDAY AFTERNOON AND IF THEY CAN'T AGREE ON A PERSON THEN, IT MAY END UP GOING TO A SPECIAL
ELECTION WHICH WILL COST SOME MONEY, AND MAY NOT HAPPEN FOR MONTHS. DELAYS.

NEW UNEMLOYMENT FIGURES RELEASED TODAY: IN JACKSON COUNTY, THE JOBLESS RATE
DROPPED TO 4.2 PERCENT IN SEPTEMBER. IN AUGUST,IT WAS 4.6 PERCENT.

SERVICES ARE PENDING AT CARSON'S FOR HELEN ALDEN, AGE 94, OF MAQUOKETA.
