83 TODAY....89 TOMORROW

IOWA'S UNEMPLOYMENT RATES DROPPED IN ALL COUNTIES IN THE AREA IN APRIL.     FOR THE STATE AS A WHOLE, IT WAS 5.1.....DOWN FROM 5.2 IN MARCH.     IN JACKSON COUNTY, IT DROPPED SIGNIFICANTLY TO 5.4 PERCENT IN APRIL FROM 6.6 IN MARCH.

IN SPORTS, THE MAQUOKETA GIRLS SOFTBALL TEAM WON THEIR SEASON OPENING GAME LAST NIGHT IN EXCITING  FASHION.     MAQUOKETA DEFEATED
NORTH SCOTT 3 TO 2, SCORING ALL 3 OF THEIR RUNS IN THE BOTTOM
OF  THE FINAL 7TH INNING.    ABBY SKLADZIEN HIT A GAME WINNING
TRIPLE TO BRING IN THE FINAL TWO RUNS.

IN THEATRE NEWS....THE VOY 3 THEATRE IS NOW A DIGITAL THEATRE!
FROM NOW ON,  IN THE LARGEST AUDITORIUM OF THE THREE, ONLY DIGITAL
(COMPUTER HARD DRIVE) MOVIES WILL BE SHOWN.   THE PROJECTION
BOOTH NO LONGER HAS A PROJECTOR TO SHOW 35MM FILMS.
THE PICTURE ON THE SCREEN IS BRILLIANT.   A STEADY PICTURE AND NEVER SCRATCHES.    I'LL HAVE A PHOTO OF IT HERE ONE OF THESE DAYS.
ALL AUTOMATION!    AT EXACTLY 7 P.M...WITH NO ONE IN THE ROOM, IT STARTS UP...TURNS DOWN THE LIGHTS...SHUTS OFF THE PRE-MOVIE MUSIC AND GOES TO THE PREVUES AND THEN THE MOVIE.     AT THE END OF THE SHOW, IT BRINGS UP THE LIGHTS, SHUTS DOWN AUTOMATICALLY AND WILL BE READY TO GO AGAIN FOR THE NEXT SHOWING AT THE ADVERTISED TIME.

ALSO IN THEATRE NEWS, A BREAK-IN LAST NIGHT AT THE 61 DRIVE-IN
THEATRE.    MOSTLY CANDY TAKEN AND SOME MINOR DAMAGE.

ABOVE, SEVERAL PHOTOS TAKEN FROM ALL SIDES OF THE VERY IMPRESSIVE NEW ALL-VETERANS MEMORIAL LOCATED NEXT TO THE RAILROAD  AND MILITARY MUSEUM AT THE RESTORED DEPOT IN DELMAR.     ALL VETERANS FROM THE AREA ARE INVITED TO THE DEDICATION OF THIS MEMORIAL THIS SATURDAY AT DELMAR.    IN FACT, EVERYONE IS INVITED.    THE GUEST SPEAKER WILL BE MONTY RAILSBACK, VICE-COMMANDER OF THE    AMERICAN LEGION OF IOWA.   THE MEMORIAL FEATURES A FLAG POLE
AND FLAG OF  EVERY MILITARY SERVICE AND THE U.S. FLAG IS IN THE MIDDLE ON A LARGER FLAG POLE.      THE PATRIOT GUARD RIDERS WILL RAISE THE FLAGS AND THE ENTIRE AREA WILL BE DECORATED WITH FLAGS FOR THE 12 NOON CEREMONY.      FRAN RILEY FROM KWQC-TV IN DAVENPORT, STEP-FATHER OF THE FIRST MARINE KILLED IN THE IRAQ WAR, WILL RAISE THE MARINE FLAG.    THE MEMORIAL, SURROUNDED BY A BRICK
SIDEWALK WITH BENCHES,  WILL BE UNDER LIGHTING ALL NIGHT LONG,
EVERY NIGHT.    SATURDAY AFTER THE NOON CEREMONY,  EVERYONE WILL
HAVE AN OPPORTUNITY TO VIEW  TWO MOBILE MILITARY MUSEUMS THAT
WILL BE ON HAND SATURDAY ONLY AND THERE WILL BE TIME TO TOUR
THE RAILROAD DEPOT AND THE VERY EXTENSIVE COLLECTION OF RAILROAD
ITEMS OF BYGONE YEARS.    YES,THERE WILL BE FREE REFRESHMENTS
FOR EVERYONE.
