BEAUTIFUL DAY TODAY IN MAQUOKETA.

FIRST..HATS OFF TO JACK WEST OF HOLLAND, MICHIGAN! HE'S A FRIEND OF BOB OSTERHAUS (FROM
PHARMACY ASSOCIATION DAYS) AND I DON'T BELIEVE HAS EVER BEEN TO MAQUOKETA, BUT
KEEPS TRACK OF OUR CITY THROUGH BOB AND THIS WEB SITE. HE HAS BECOME A FAN OF MAQUOKETA. AND AGAIN THIS YEAR...HE PURCHASED ROTARY DUCKS FOR THE JUNE 21ST RACE AND MAY WIN $1,000 OR $100. GOT HIS CHECK TODAY FOR FOUR. AND IF HIS WIFE READS THIS.....NANCY WEST....YOUR HUSBAND PUT YOUR NAME ON ONE OF THE FOUR TICKET STUBS. GOOD LUCK.

ANY OTHER READERS WANT TO BUY A DUCK. MAKE $5 CHECK PAYBLE TO MAQUOKETA ROTARY...
MY BOX NUMBER IS 940 AND IN A FEW DAYS, CHECK TO SEE YOUR NAME AS A DUCK BUYER ON THE MAQUOKETA ROTARY WEB SITE...www.maquoketa-rotary.org

I WENT DOWN TO BILL MERRICK'S BARBER SHOP THIS AFTERNOON AND PURCHASED A NEW US FLAG FOR MY POLE IN FRONT OF MY HOME....HE SELLS THEM FOR THE LEGION...$23....DARN GOOD QUALITY FLAG.
BILL IS A KOREAN WAR VET AND VERY ACTIVE STILL IN THE LEGION AND VFW. BEEN BARBERING IN MAQUOKETA SINCE 1952.

THE MAQUOKETA OPTIMIST CLUB HAD A MONEY MAKING PROMOTION THAT WENT WELL THIS SPRING. THEY SOLD A FLAG AND POLE FOR $35 A YEAR, THAY THEY WILL PUT UP AND TAKE DOWN AND STORE...FOR THREE NATIONAL HOLIDAYS. OVER 100 SIGNED UP. NEXT YEAR, THEY HOPE TO RE-SIGN EVERYONE, BUT WON'T HAVE THE COST OF THE FLAG OR POLE AND WILL MAKE MORE PROFIT AND THEY MAY ALSO GAIN NEW BUYERS NEXT YEAR. GOOD PROMOTION BY A GOOD MAQUOKETA SERVICE CLUB...DARN GOOD!

MAQUOKETA IS LOOSING A DENTIST. ANOTHER IS RETIRING. AND A NEW WOMAN DENTIST IS COMING THIS SUMMER. MORE HERE SOON. ALSO, A NEW LOCAL MANAGER FOR THE MAQUOKETA COUNTRY CLUB.......STAY TUNED AS WE SAY ON KMAQ.

THE WHEATLAND BANK ROBBER HAS BEEN ARRESTED. ROBERT S. NELSON, 24, OF DEWITT.

MINOR DAMAGE TO A MAQUOKETA SQUAD CAR. OFFICER J.T. THOMSON BACKED INTO A VEHICLE DRIVEN BY LARRY DERGANZ MONDAY EVENING. LESS THAN $1,000 DAMAGE TO THE SQUAD CAR.
WAS THE OFFICER CHARGED? OUR NEWS STORY DOESN'T SAY. I'LL HAVE TO CHECK.

AL BARKER OF MAQUOKETA REPORTED SOMEONE SHOT A WINDOW OF HIS CAMPER ON EAST PLATT STREET.

THE MAQUOKETA CITY COUNCIL HAS AGREED TO HELP FINANCE AN EXPANSION TO THE FIRE STATION,IF A GRANT IS APPROVED. IT IS EXPECTED TO BE A MILLION DOLLAR PROJECT.
THE CITY ALREADY OWNS THE ADJACENT LAND AND THE TRUCKS HAVE TO BE SQUEEZED INTO THE CURRENT BUILDING.

THE MAQUOKETA LETTER CARRIERS COLLECTED 2,168 POUNDS OF FOOD SATURDAY WHEN ON THEIR ROUNDS, SURPASSING LAST YEAR. THE FOOD WENT TO THE MAQUOKETA COMMUNITY CUPBOARD.

POPPY WEEK IS NEXT WEEK.

THANKS FOR THE VISIT.
