A SEMI TIPPED OVER ON HIGHWAY 61, SOUTH OF MAQUOKETA, NEAR FAMILY DOLLAR DISTRIBUTION CENTER AND THE RESULT WAS, THE HIGHWAY WAS CLOSED DOWN FROM AROUND 11:30 A.M. UNTIL 3:30 P.M. THE DRIVER WAS TAKEN TO THE HOSPITAL. NO OTHER DETAILS WERE AVAILABLE. TRAFFIC WAS REROUTED ON OLD HIGHWAY 61 SOUTH TO HIGHWAY 136.
SUNSHINE SCHOOL RAISED AROUND $10,000 YESTERDAY AT THEIR ART SHOW AND AUCTION. THEY HAD A $100 A CHANCE RAFFLE AND HAROLD GIBBS OF BERNARD, WON $2,500. NANCY MOORE OF MAQUOKETA, $1,500 AND MATT OSTERHAUS OF MAQUOKETA, $1,000. THE AUCTION RAISED $3,500. MAQUOKETA STATE BANK GAVE $2,000 , THE MAQUOKETA OPTIMIST CLUB GAVE $1,000 AND
MAQUOKETA COMMUNITY SERVICES, $500.
FORMER MAQUKETA RESIDENT AND DELWOOD SUPERINTENDENT, MARY JO HAINSTOCK, HAS RESIGNED FROM HER CURRENT POSITION AS SUPERINTENDENT AT NORTH CEDAR SCHOOL DISTRICT AND HAS TAKEN THE SUPERINTENDENT JOB WITH VINTON-SHELLSBURG, EFFECTIVE THIS JULY.

THE NEW MAQUOKETA LIONS CLUB MET LAST THURSDAY NIGHT AT THE
YMCA AND FOUR MEMBERS VOLUNTEERED TO BE OFFICERS NEEDED FOR THE
NEW CHARTER APPLICATION. TOM DEVINE VOLUNTEERED TO BE THE PRESIDENT.
TOM STEWART VOLUNTEERED TO BE THE SECRETARY. STEVE FOWLER
VOLUNTEERED TO BE THE TREASURER AND LINDA GRIMM VOLUNTEERED TO BE THE MEMBERSHIP CHAIRMAN. OTHER OFFICERS WILL BE ELECTED AT A LATER MEETING. THE NEW CLUB IS BEING FORMED BY THE DELMAR
LIONS CLUB AND DELMAR PRESIDENT PAUL SEYFERT WILL BE THE GUIDING LION FOR THE NEXT TWO YEARS. RALPH BENNY OF THE LOW MORE LIONS
WILL BE THE OTHER GUIDING LION. TWENTY MEMBERS ARE NEEDED TO
FORM A NEW CLUB AND SEYFERT SAID TWENTY TWO MEN AND WOMEN HAVE
JOINED SO FAR. AND MORE ARE EXPECTED TO JOIN BEFORE THE NEW CLUB
HAS ITS CHARTER NIGHT BANQUET THIS SPRING.
MAQUOKETA HAS HAD A LIONS CLUB TWICE BEFORE.
THE FIRST CLUB WAS CHARTERED IN 1936 AND WAS DISBANDED IN 1941 BECAUSE OF WORLD WAR TWO.
THE CLUB WAS RE-ACTIVATED IN 1951 AND REMAINED ACTIVE UNTIL 1998.
AT ONE TIME, THE PEAK MEMBERSHIP WAS 129 MEMBERS.
THE NEXT MEETING OF THE NEW MAQUOKETA LIONS CLUB WILL BE ON
THURSDAY NIGHT, MARCH 19TH, AT THE MAQUOKETA YMCA. ANYONE WANTING MORE INFORMATION ON THE NEW CLUB, OR ANYONE WANTING TO JOIN,
