BOB STOCKHAM, 96, DIED YESTERDAY AT HIS HOME IN MAQUOKETA. HE WAS
RETIRED FROM G. L. STOCKHAM & SON IN MAQUOKETA. IN THE COMPANY
NAME, G.L. WAS HIS DAD (PUNCH) AND BOB WAS THE SON, AND NOW HIS SON DAVE CONTINUES ON RUNNING ONE OF MAQUOKETA'S OLDEST BUSINESS ESTABLISHMENTS.
IN 1958 WHEN KMAQ WAS ESTABLISHED UPSTAIRS AT 136 1/2 SOUTH MAIN STREET, BOB AND HIS MEN REMODELED THE UPSTAIRS FOR THE KMAQ OFFICE AND STUDIOS. I FIRST MET HIM THAT YEAR. IN 1970, HE REMODELED THE BUILDING KMAQ IS NOW IN AND IN 1973, I HIRED BOB TO BUILD THE VOY THEATRE FOR ME.
AND WE ALSO WERE PARTNERS WITH M.F. McKINSEY IN TWO OR THREE DOWNTOWN
BUILDINGS. IN OTHER WORDS, HE WAS A GOOD FRIEND AND DID MUCH OVER THE
YEARS IN BUILDING A BIGGER AND BETTER MAQUOKETA.
AN INTERESTING FACT....IN HIS EARLY YEARS, HE WAS A HEAVY SMOKER...AND LIVED TO 96.
HE SERVED AND WAS WOUNDED IN WORLD WAR TWO.
GOOD MAN, GOOD BUILDER, GOOD CITIZEN AND FRIEND.
SERVICES ARE PENDING AT CARSON'S. MY SYMPATHY IS EXTENDED TO HIS FAMILY.
TOMORROW NIGHT AT 7 AT OHNWARD FINE ARTS CENTER IN MAQUOKETA.
