THE NEW SABULA BRIDGE OPENS TONIGHT.
    NOW, WITH 2 NEW BRIDGES, A NICE EASY DRIVE FROM SABULA TO SAVANNA.    
MORE INFORMATION..
IT OPENED EARLY...THIS AFTERNOON.
BELOW, A PHOTO OF IT.
AND OF COURSE, WHEN YOU GO OVER IT AT THE EDGE
OF SABULA,  YOU THEN GO OVER THE $80 MILLION DOLLAR NEW MAIN BRIDGE WHICH OPENED
LAST NOVEMBER AND HAS BEEN CLOSED, WAITING
FOR THE SMALLER BRIDGE AT SABULA TO OPEN.
BOTH ARE NEEDED TO CROSS THE MISSISSIPPI RIVER.
AND..... I HAVE BEEN TOLD THAT THE FREE
FERRY SERVICE WILL CONTINUE ACROSS THE RIVER THROUGH SUNDAY FOR THE BENEFIT OF TOURISTS.  



THE NEW JACKSON COUNTY HOSPITAL IN MAQUOKETA
TO LOOK LIKE THIS WHEN IT OPENS IN ABOUT 2 YEARS.

DEPUTY TERRY ROLING GAVE  THE PROGRAM AT ROTARY TODAY.     HE HAS BEEN A
JACKSON COUNTY DEPUTY FOR OVER 21 YEARS.    AND HE IS THE DEPARTMENT'S
EXPERT ON ATV'S.       THERE ARE OVER 850 REGISTERED IN THE COUNTY.    AND NOW, THEY CAN OPERATE ON ALL COUNTY ROADS AND IN MILES AND SABULA,
ANYWHERE IN THE CITY.     ANY CITY STREET IN MAQUOKETA, BELLEVUE AND
PRESTON MAY ALSO BE LEGAL SOME DAY.    NOT ALLOWED ON STATE HIGHWAYS.
JACKSON, CLINTON AND CEDAR COUNTIES  HAVE BASICALLY THE SAME AREAS
TO RUN.     SO, IT IS POSIBLE NOW TO DRIVE AN ATV FROM SAY ST. DONATUS TO
WEST BRANCH.    RULES AND REGULATIONS ARE SEPARATE FROM SNOWMOBILES.
UTV'S...UTILITY...LIKE THE JOHN DEERE GATOR CAN GO THE SAME PLACES AS
ATV'S.    INSURANCE NECESSARY, NO SPEEDING OVER 35 MPH, HOURS,  AN HOUR BEFORE SUNRISE TO HOUR AFTER SUNSET, LIGHTS REQUIRED (NO DIRECTIONAL MANDATORY), AND SEAT BELTS  REQUIRED.    DEPUTY ROLING SAID ATV'S ARE
VERY POPULAR AND CAN COST AS MUCH OR MORE THAN A NEW PASSENGER
CAR, DEPENDING WHAT YOU WANT ON THEM.    SEE OR CALL DEP. ROLLING  WITH

LIGHTNING AND OVER 1 AND  1/2 INCHES OF  RAIN IN MAQUOKETA AREA.

MONDAY DAILY




THE CAVES OPENED FRIDAY, WITH FAIR WEATHER.    SATURDAY, BETTER WEATHER AND SUNDAY, REALLY NICE....SO THE ATTENDANCE WAS GOOD FOR THE
REOPENING OF THE CAVES.    THE PICNIC TABLES WERE NEARLY ALL TAKEN
ACCORDING TO THE ABOVE AT PICNIC TABLE.    I WAS THERE TO TAKE PHOTOS
LATE SUNDAY AFTERNOON, SO MOST HAD LEFT FOR HOME.    NOTE THE TREES
THAT  WERE TAKEN DOWN FOR THE NEW ROAD THROUGH THE  CAVES.   AND I
NOTICED THE WELCOME BUILDING AT THE ENTRANCE ALSO HAD VISITORS.   THEY
WERE GREETED BY VOLUNTEERS AND IF YOU HAVE NOT VISITED THIS BUILDING,
DO SO.   INTERESTING VIDEO AND FACTS ABOUT THE HISTORY OF THE CAVES.

I HAD TO TAKE A PHOTO OF THIS INTERESTING NEW HOME ON THE CAVES ROAD.
THE OWNERS ARE LIVING THERE, BUT I DO NOT KNOW THEIR NAME.


WE NOTICED AROUND 8 DEER ON THE CAVES ROAD.   THIS ONE LET ME TAKE
HIS PICTURE.

NEARLY A FULL HOUSE FOR THE MOE BANDY SHOW SATURDAY NIGHT.   GOOD
CONCERT.    RICH HALL ANNOUNCED THAT SOMEONE HAS GIVEN THE AMOUNT
OF MONEY TO REACH $20,000 AND SO THE GARY DREWS WILL NOW GIVE THEIR
$50,000 PLEDGED EARLY THIS YEAR.    THE OHNWARD ROOF IS PAID FOR.    WE WILL LEARN LATER WHO GAVE THE MONEY TO REACH $20,000.

BUSY STOCK CAR RACES SATURDAY NIGHT TOO.
THE MUSIC IN THE GREEN SPACE EVENT HAD A LOW ATTENDANCE  LAST NIGHT
FEATURING A DUBUQUE TRIO, BUT WEATHER WAS GOOD AND MUSIC WAS ALSO GOOD.    SORRY MORE DIDN'T ATTEND THE FREE EVENT.    
ALL IN ALL, A BUSY WEEKEND OF ENTERTAINMENT IN THE TIMBER CITY.
THE KMAQ STAFF GOT ONE MORE 60TH BIRTHDAY TREAT  TODAY.   THE PIZZA-
SIZE CHOCOLATE COOKIE, WITH A FEW HUNDRED (THOUSAND) CALORIES, WAS ENJOYED BY ALL AND GONE BY LATE AFTERNOON.   THANKS TO JOYCE OSTER.   THIS WAS THE SECOND FROM HER.   TEN YEARS AGO, SHE ALSO BROUGHT US ONE ON OUR 50TH.

THE CARDINALS OPEN THE SEASON TONIGHT.   A RAINY DAY,  SO THE SOPHOMORE
GAME HAS BEEN POSTPONED UNTIL  MONDAY AND THE VARSITY KICK-OFF MOVED
UP TO 6 P.M. TONIGHT.     DALE SCOTT WILL GO ON-THE-AIR AT 5:45 WITH PRE-GAME SHOW.    THE GAME WILL BE ON THE KMAQ HOME PAGE...JUST TURN-ON THE LITTLE RADIO.

STARTS TONIGHT AT THE VOY THEATRE.     AND IS ALSO THE FIRST SHOW AT
8:30 TONIGHT, THROUGH  SUNDAY NIGHT, AT THE 61 DRIVE-IN THEATRE.

MARY HOLTZ, RIGHT, WAS CROWNED THE 2018 IOWA JERSEY PRINCESS AT THE SUMMER PICNIC HOSTED BY THE RODNEY AND POLLY METZGER  FAMILY OF LESTER IOWA.     SHE IS THE DAUGHTER OF JEFF AND LISA HOLTZ, HOLTZ VIEW FARMS,
RURAL MAQUOKETA.   SHE WILL BE A HIGH SCHOOL JUNIOR AND IS ACTIVE IN
BAND, FFA, 4-H, BOWLING AND SOCCER.      SHE IS HER 4-H CLUB PRESIDENT
AND ON THE COUNTY 4-H COUNCIL.    SHE IS  NOW ELIGIBLE TO REPRESENT
THE JERSEY BREED IN THE IOWA DAIRY PRINCESS CONTEST NEXT AUGUST.

DALE SCOTT, THE NEW KMAQ VOICE OF THE MAQUOKETA CARDINAL FOOTBALL
TEAM.    A 1991 MCHS GRAD, DALE IS ANXIOUS TO DO THE PLAY-BY-PLAY OF
THE OPENING GAME OF THE SEASON THIS FRIDAY NIGHT, AT GOODENOW FIELD,
AGAINST ANAMOSA.     HE WILL GO ON-THE-AIR AROUND 7:15 WITH THE PRE-
GAME SHOW.... AND THE KICK-OFF WILL BE ABOUT 7:30.       IF THE SOPHOMORE
GAME GOES LONGER, THE VARSITY KICK-OFF WILL START LATER AND THE PRE-GAME SHOW WILL START A LITTLE LATER ALSO.    THE GAME WILL BE ON BOTH KMAQ-AM AND KMAQ-FM AND ON KMAQ'S WEB SITE HOME PAGE.    ANYONE AROUND COUNTRY CAN GO THERE AND TURN ON THE LITTLE RADIO FOR DALE'S PLAY-BY-PLAY.

MORE WORK TODAY ON THE ART PIECE FOR DOWNTOWN MAQUOKETA.
CAN'T WAIT TO SEE IT WHEN COMPLETED.

DUNES, SELLING TICKETS AGAIN AT THE 61 DRIVE-IN.  

THE FAMILY THAT SAT ACROSS FROM US ON THE SHUTTLE SERVICE AT THE STATE
FAIR LAST WEDNESDAY....(I HAD THE PHOTO LAST THURSDAY HERE)....WARREN
JOHNSON AND WIFE AND GRANDSON.    HE WAS WITH THE LIMESTONE BLUFFS
R C & D OFFICE HERE IN MAQUOKETA FOR SEVERAL YEARS, THEN TRANSFERRED
TO A HIGHER POSITION AT ANOTHER R C &  D OFFICE IN IOWA AND NOW IS
FARMING IN CENTRAL IOWA.    ONE OF THOSE GUYS WE HATED TO SEE LEAVE
MAQUOKETA.

3 INCHES OF RAIN YESTERDAY HERE IN THE TIMBER CITY.

SUNDAY DAILY

SATURDAY WAS ANOTHER BIG DAY IN BEAUTIFUL BELLEVUE ALONG THE MIGHTY
MISSISSIPPI RIVER.    ANOTHER ATTRACTION ALONG THE RIVER WAS DEDICATED
YESTERDAY AFTERNOON AFTER THE CONCLUSION OF THE "FISHTIVAL" THE ANNUAL ART FAIR ALONG THE RIVER.   IT WAS FROM 10 A.M. UNTIL 3 P.M. AND
AGAIN FEATURED MANY ARTISTS, SHOWING AND/OR SELLING SOME OF THEIR
WORK.
ONLY SIXTEEN, AND THERE WILL BE NO MORE,  COMMUNITIES STATEWIDE ARE
GETTING A  PERMANENT  ART EXHIBIT FOR THEIR TOWN,  DESIGNED BY A NATIVE OF THE TOWN.
BELLEVUE DEDICATED THEIRS YESTERDAY.
MAQUOKETA WILL DEDICATE THEIRS IN THE GREEN SPACE SOON.
ALL 16 MUST BE UNVEILED BY THE END OF THE YEAR.
THERE WILL THEN BE A STATE-WIDE BROCHURE WITH ALL 16,  AND TOURISTS WILL
BE INVITED TO VISIT ALL 16 CITIES.
ABOVE, FROM THE NORTHEAST IOWA RC & D OFFICE IN POSTVILLE, MALLORY HANSON, WHO CAME  TO BE PART OF THE DEDICATION.    WITH HER, RONALD K. HANSEN WHO LIVES IN BELLEVUE AND DESIGNED THE TWO FISH STACKS.

IN PHOTO ABOVE, NEXT TO ONE OF THE TWO FISH STACKS, AT LEFT, THE CHAIRMAN OF "FISHTIVAL" DAVE EISCHIED OF THE BELLEVUE ARTS COUNCIL....RONALD HANSEN....MAYOR PRO TEM ALLAN ERNST WHO ACCEPTED THE ART PIECE FOR THE CITY...AND MALLORY  HANSON.
EACH OF THE 16 COMMUNITIES RECEIVED  A $5,000 GRANT FOR THEIR DOWNTOWN ART EXHIBIT.    THE TOWNS THEN, FROM LOCAL DONATIONS, RAISED ANOTHER $10,000.

ANAMOSA WILL ALSO SOON UNVEIL THEIR ART EXHIBIT.     ELKADER'S HAS ALSO BEEN DEDICATED.     EASTERN IOWA IS FORTUNATE TO HAVE 4 OF THE 16.

THE FARMERS MARKET CONTINUES THROUGH MID-OCTOBER ON THE PARKING

 LOT OF OHNWARD FINE ARTS CENTER.  
OURS IS ONE OF THE BEST IN IOWA, WITH MUSIC, FOOD, KIDS GAMES, AND
A BUNCH OF VENDORS.   STARTS OFF AT 4:30 EVERY TUESDAY AFTERNOON.


A TORNADO TOUCHED DOWN ON THE WEST SIDE OF OXFORD JUNCTION ABOUT
6 P.M. THURSDAY....THE WEAKEST RATING, EF-O.   MAQUOKETA WAS UNDER A
TORNADO WARNING, BUT CANCELLED SOON AFTER.    NO DAMAGE IN THE
KMAQ AREA THAT I KNOW OF.

THURSDAY DAILY

THE "BUTTER COW" AT THIS YEAR'S IOWA STATE FAIR.   I TOOK THE PHOTO IN THE
AGRICULT'URE BUILDING.    NANCY AND I HOSTED THE KMAQ BUS TO THE FAIR,
WITH 50 FRIENDS AND LISTENERS OF KMAQ.    WE LEFT SHORTLY AFTER 7 A.M....
DROVE THROUGH A LOT OF RAIN AND SOME CONSTRUCTION HIGHWAY WORK....
AND GOT TO THE FAIRGROUNDS AT ABOUT 10:30.    AND THERE, NO RAIN AND A
GOOD WEATHER AFTERNOON.    IT WAS A BUSY PLACE, WELL ATTENDED FOR
SENIOR DAY.
THIS IS THE 100TH ANNIVERSARY FOR JOHN DEERE EQUIPMENT.    THIS TRACTOR
WAS ALSO CARVED IN BUTTER.
THIS NEW HUGE  FERRIS WHEEL WAS POPULAR.... AT JUST $6 A RIDE.   NANCY AND
I RODE IT JUST BEFORE BOARDING THE BUS FOR HOME.

TWO CAROLS, TIRED FROM WALKING, WATCHING SOME OF THE BILL RILEY TALENT
SHOW, HELD DAILY.
THERE IS A TRAILER PULLED BY A TRACTOR THAT TAKES ANYONE ON A FREE
RIDE AROUND THE FAIR GROUNDS.     WE STOPPED, THREE GOT ON AND SAT
ACROSS FROM US.    A SURPRISE!   RECOGNIZE HIM?    I'LL TELL YOU ON NEXT REPORT, WHO HE IS.

THANKS TO ALL 50 THAT MADE THE TRIP WITH US.    WE STOPPED AT  CORALVILLE
FOR SUPPER AND EVERYONE GOT A FREE PIECE OF PIE WITH MEAL.
SORRY THE MEAL SERVING TOOK LONGER THAN I HAD ANTICIPATED AND WE
GOT HOME A LITTLE LATE.     IT WAS A LONG DAY,  ENDING WITH ACHING FEET.
AND IT WAS A FUN DAY AT ONE OF THE TOP 5 STATE FAIRS IN THE COUNTRY.   OVER
A MILLION ATTEND EVERY YEAR AND IT GOES ON THROUGH THE 19TH.
