LAST NIGHT, CENTER POINT-URBANA DEFEATED THE MAQUOKETA CARDINALS 32 TO 7. MAQUOKETA NOW IS 0 AND 3.
LAST NIGHT.....
THE MAQUOKETA ROTARY CLUB 3RD ANNUAL "REVERSE RAFFLE" EVENT
WAS HELD AT CENTERSTONE MOTEL AT THE SOUTH EDGE OF MAQUOKETA.
IT STARTED WITH A BUFFET DINNER AT 6:30 AND THE RAFFLE AFTER.
IN A REVERSE RAFFLE, IF YOUR NAME IS DRAWN, YOU MISS OUT ON THE
BIG DOLLARS AT THE END. THERE ARE SOME $100 WINNERS DURING THE
NIGHT, BUT MOST HOPE THEIR NAME WILL STAY IN THE BASKET UNTIL
THE END WHEN THEY WOULD BE ELIGIBLE FOR THE $2,000 MAIN PRIZE.
IT GOT DOWN TO THE FINAL TWO. THEY COULD HAVE ASKED FOR ANOTHER DRAWING THAT WOULD HAVE BEEN FOR THE 2-THOUSAND, BUT TOOK THE
OPTION OF SPLITTING THE POT AND EACH TAKING $1,000. THE TWO
WINNERS ABOVE WERE DARYL SCHEEPERS (LEFT) AND DAVID CLARK.
SCOTT WARREN AND WIFE JUST AFTER DINNER. SCOTT, MANAGER OF THE MAQUOKETA YMCA AND 3-TERM PAST-PRESIDENT OF THE MAQUOKETA
ROTARY CLUB, WAS RESPONSIBLE FOR STARTING THE RAFFLE EVENT
A COUPLE YEARS AGO AND HAS BEEN CHAIRMAN FOR ALL 3. IT TAKES A LOT OF WORK, INCLUDING HAVING A SILENT-AUCTION WITH IT. PROCEEDS
ARE USED FOR ROTARY'S $10,000 COMMITTMENT TO THE PRAIRIE CREEK
PARK, AND ALSO THEIR PLANS TO IMPROVE BALL PARKS IN MAQUOKETA.
GOOD TURN-OUT LAST NIGHT AND A FUN TIME HAD BY ALL.
EARLY NEXT WEEK, MANY PHOTOS I TOOK LAST NIGHT WILL BE UP ON THE ROTARY WEB SITE. CHECK IT OUT AT WWW.KMAQ.COM AND THERE ON KMAQ'S HOME PAGE, CLICK-ON THE ROTARY BUTTON.
