THURSDAY DAILY REPORT

10 BELOW LAST NIGHT.
SUNNY AND 2 ABOVE TODAY.
WE WILL GO DOWN TO 9 BELOW TONIGHT.
TOMORROW A LITTLE WARMER.

1,107 PEOPLE ATTENDED THE SECOND DAY OF THE KMAQ FARM AND HOME
SHOW AND THAT BROUGHT THE TWO-DAY TOTAL TO 2,097, JUST SLIGHTLY
LOWER THAN LAST YEAR.    WEDNESDAY WAS DOWN BECAUSE OF THE
WEATHER, BUT TODAY WAS OVER LAST YEAR BECAUSE OF BETTER WEATHER.

AT NOON TODAY, THE "FRIENDS OF AGRICULTURE" AWARDS WERE PRESENTED ON STAGE BY THE MAQUOKETA ROTARY CLUB AND THE
AG COMMITTEE OF THE MAQUOKETA CHAMBER OF COMMERCE.
THIS WAS THE 25TH YEAR FOR THE AWARDS.
MEMBERS OF THE CHAMBER AG COMMITTEE AT LEFT IN ALL 3 PHOTOS, ANNOUNCED THE WINNER AND ALONG WITH ROTARY PRESIDENT SCOTT
WARREN AT RIGHT IN EACH PHOTO, PRESENTED THE PLAQUE.
ABOVE, JOEL LASACK OF MAQUOKETA STATE BANK, BOB MITCHEN, JR. AND
SCOTT WARREN.    BOB WAS NAMED THE AGRI-BUSINESS WINNER.  HE
OWNS MITCHELL-MASKREY  FEED STORE IN MAQUOKETA.

BELOW, LEFT TO RIGHT, AMBER MATHIESEN OF MAQUOKETA, EXTENSION DIRECTOR, MARY HAYWARD OF MAQUOKETA AND SCOTT WARREN.
MARY WAS NAMED AGRI PUBLIC SERVICE PERSON OF THE YEAR.

LARRY AND MARY LOU WERE NAMED FARMERS OF THE YEAR AND FARM EAST OF MAQUOKETA.

THE $150 GIFT BASKET AT THE END OF THE SHOW WAS WON BY SUE OSTERT OF RURAL MAQUOKETA.     THE  FINAL HOURLY CASH DRAWING WAS FOR $50 AND IT WAS WON BY MARY SIEVERDING OF BELLEVUE.

MAQUOKETA MUNICIPAL ELECTRIC UTILITY BOARD MEMBERS HAVE HIRED
A NEW GENERAL MANAGER.   HE IS HERBERT "TOM" GARRIGAN JR. OF HARLAN, IOWA.  HE HAS BEEN CHEIF EXECUTIVE OF THE HARLAN MUNICIPAL UTILITIES AND HE AND HIS WIFE MARLENE WILL MOVE TO MAQUOKETA.    THEY HAVE TWO GROWN CHILDREN IN ILLINOIS AND ONE GRANDCHILD.

KMAQ FARM AND HOME SHOW PIE BAKING CONTEST

 THERE WERE 42 ENTRIES.    AND INTERESTING...21 IN EACH CATEGORY.
THELMA NISSEN AND WANDA CORNELIUS WERE THE "HOSTS" FOR THE PIE
CONTEST.  THEY WERE BUY ALL DAY.
THE 3 JUDGES WERE:   JOSH COLLISTER OF MAQUOKETA, OWNER OF SWEET THINGS BAKERY....LEANN KASEMODELL OF MAQUOKETA, OF THE FAREWAY STORE DELI IN MAQUOKETA AND LAURA PRICHARD OF DEWITT,
OWNER OF WHISK AWAY CAFE AND BAKERY IN DEWITT.
