NICE DAY.....TODAY.....SUNNY AND HIGH OF 78.
RAIN AND COOLER WEATHER FOR TOMORROW.

A RURAL MAQUOKETA MAN, ROBERT COATES, AGE 50, WAS INJURED IN AN ATV ACCIDENT ON HIS FARM SUNDAY NIGHT. HE WAS CHECKING HIS FIELD ON THE FOUR-WHEELER AROUND 8 LAST NIGHT AND HIT A LARGE RUT OR WASHOUT AND
WAS THROWN FROM THE ATV. HE WAS TAKEN TO THE HOSPITAL HERE AND
THEN TRANSFERRED TO ANOTHER HOSPITAL. WHERE HE WAS TAKEN AND
HIS CONDITION WAS NOT AVAILABLE TODAY.

IT IS HOMECOMING WEEK. LACIE HEISERMAN AND LUKE KUTSCH WERE
NAMED HOMECOMING ROYALITY YESTERDAY AFTERNOON DURING
CEREMONIES AT THE MAQUOKETA HIGH SCHOOL.
THE PARADE WILL BE FRIDAY AFTERNOON AND THE GAME AT 7:30 FRIDAY NIGHT AGAINST CENTER POINT-URBANA.

PAUL DEMOSS, AGE 58, DIED SATURDAY IN FAIRFIELD, IOWA. HE GRADUATED
FROM MAQUOKETA HIGH SCHOOL AND WORKED FOR ME IN THE 70'S AND
80'S, FIRST SELLING TICKETS AT MY DRIVE-IN AND LATER WAS MY MANAGER
FOR A DOZEN OR MORE YEARS WHEN I OWED THE CASTLE THEATRE IN
MANCHESTER AND MALEK THEATRE IN INDEPENDENCE. HE IS SURVIVED BY HIS WIFE, CATHY AND 4 STEP-DAUGHTERS. HIS MOTHER WAS CARRIE HOOVER
DEMOSS,WHO DIED LAST YEAR. ALSO SURVIVED BY A BROTHER IN OKLAHOMA AND A SISTER IN CEDAR RAPIDS. HIS FUNERAL WILL BE WEDNESDAY IN FAIRFIELD.
ARRANGEMENTS BY THE RAYMOND FUNERAL HOME THERE.

THE MAQUOKETA CITY COUNCIL HAS A SPECIAL MEETING TONIGHT.
IT WILL DEAL WITH THE WIND TURBINE PROPOSAL FOR THE YMCA AND
ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT STRAGEDY FOR MAQUOKETA.

THE MAQUOKETA O'CONNOR-REGENWETHER POST 3633 OF THE VETERANS OF
FOREIGN WARS IS ONCE AGAIN SPONSORING THE ANNUAL VOICE OF
DEMOCRACY SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM, OPEN TO ALL HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS
IN THE AREA. A STUDENT NEEDS TO WRITE A 3 TO 4 MINUTE ESSAY ON THE THEME: "DOES MY GENERATION HAVE A ROLE IN AMERICA'S FUTURE?"
HE OR SHE THEN RECORDS THE ESSAY HERE AT KMAQ, WITH THE RECORDING
TO BE USED FOR JUDGING AND THE RECORDING WILL ALSO BE AIRED ON KMAQ.
FIRST PLACE: $150 CASH. SECOND, $100 AND 3RD PLACE, $50. THE WINNER
