SUNNY AND WARMER TODAY, HIGH OF 32.
COLDER WEATHER COMING. TOMORROW WILL BE 10 DEGREES COLDER.
SINGLE DIGIT WEATHER FOR THE WEEKEND.
I'VE BEEN TO BASKETBALL GAMES TWO NIGHTS IN A ROW. TUESDAY NIGHT,
IN THE NEW MCHS GYM, SAW THE DEWITT GIRLS DEFEAT MAQUOKETA AND
IN THE BOYS GAME, MAQUOKETA WON BY A POINT. AROUND 15-HUNDRED FANS FROM BOTH TOWNS ON HAND. PARKING WAS HARD TO FIND OUTSIDE.
THE BOOSTERS CLUB AND EDUCATION FOUNDATION SPONSORED A CAKE CONTEST AND AUCTION AND THAT RAISED AROUND $3,800.
LAST NIGHT, SAW THE IOWA HAWKEYES BEAT WISCONSIN IN OVERTIME.
JAKE BICKFORD WAS THE HOST FOR THE GAME AND DINNER BEFORE. ENJOYED BY ME, AND HIS TWO YOUNGER BROTHERS, DEAN AND BRAD. GOOD GAME. GOOD TIME.
THE MAQUOKETA CITY COUNCIL THIS WEEK AGREED TO ACCEPT A GRANT FROM THE DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION TO PUT IN TRAFFIC LIGHTS AT THE INTERSECTION OF PLATT AND WESTGATE DRIVE, TO DEAL WITH THE TRAFFIC FROM THOSE GOING TO, AND COMING FROM, THE FAREWAY STORE. THE COST WILL BE $155,000 WITH THE GRANT PAYING $65,000. THE REST OF THE FUNDS, $90,000,
WILL COME FROM THE CITY'S ROAD USE TAX RESERVES. THE CITY ALSO WILL HAVE TO PAY 100% OF THE ENGINEERING FOR THE PROJECT. CITY MANAGER BRIAN WAGNER SAID HE ESTIMATES THE LIGHTS BEING INSTALLED SOMETIME
THIS CONSTRUCTION SEASON. PERSONALLY, I THINK THE $100,000 COULD
HAVE BEEN SPENT FOR OTHER STREET WORK. I NEVER HAVE A PROBLEM AT THAT INTERSECTION. SOMETIMES ONE MAY HAVE TO WAIT A HALF MINUTE OR SO.
THE JACKSON COUNTY HEALTH FOUNDATIN WILL HAVE THIER ANNUAL DANCE ON MARCH 21ST, WITH ENTERTAINMENT AT THE COMFORT INN STARTING AT 5:45 P.M.
FOOD AND BEVERAGES WILL BE AVAILABLE AND AN AUCTION WILL BEGIN AT 7 P.M.
THIS YEAR'S EVENT WILL RAISE MONEY FOR THE HOSPITAL TO BUY A NEW HEARING SCREENING PROGRAM FOR INFANTS, AND TO PROVIDE PARENT EDUCATION CLASSES. THE HEALTH FOUDATION CHAIRMAN IS STEVE FLYNN. BOARD MEMBERS ARE ROCHELLE RAY, KEVIN BURNS, MIKE HAWKS, BARB MILLER,
JOEL DIECKMAN AND HOSPITAL CEO CURT COLEMAN. KAREN ANN TUECKE IS THE COMMUNITY RELATIONS MANAGER FOR THE FOUNDATION.
THANKS FOR CHECKING IN.
