COLD, BUT SUNNY.

THE MAQUOKETA AREA COMMUNITY FOUNDATION (CELEBRATING ITS 25TH YEAR NEXT YEAR) HELD ITS ANNUAL CELEBRATION LUNCHEON AT NOON TODAY AT THE OHNWARD FINE ARTS CENTER LOBBY, WITH ABOUT 75
PRESENT FOR A CATERED MEAL AND PROGRAM. THE PENROSE FAMILY WAS RECOGNIZED FOR THE FAMILY SCHOLARSHIP, THE FIRST ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP FUND TO BE ADMINISTERED BY THE FOUNDATION. HAROLD AND ESTHER PENROSE WERE RECOGNIZED. MAQUOKETA BUSINESSMAN JAKE BICKFORD WAS RECOGNIZED FOR HIS 7 YEARS OF SERVICE ON THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS. LENKA CARSON (MRS. DON) WILL BE JAKE'S REPLACEMENT ON THE BOARD. PRESIDENT CHUCK WOLF AND FOUNDATION DIRECTOR KATE CARINDER PRESENTED A CHECK FOR $56,667, THE FIRST OF FIVE INSTALLMENTS TO BE PRESENTED FOR THE ARC BUILDING.
CARINDER (WHO IS LEAVING THE POSITION SOON TO TAKE A NEW JOB AT IOWA CITY) ANNOUNCED THAT THE MAQUOKETA NEWSPAPERS HAS PLEDGED $50,000 TO THE ARC, WHICH IS CURRENTLY UNDER CONSTRUCTION. THE MAQUOKETA AREA COMMUNITY FOUNDATION HAS DONE MUCH FOR THE AREA AND WILL CONTINUE TO GROW AND DO MORE FOR MANY YEARS TO COME. GOOD DINNER, PREPARED BY KALMES RESTAURANT IN ST. DONATUS.

OLD TIME RADIO CHRISTMAS SHOWS, FIRST AIRED IN THE 1940'S, START AGAIN THIS CHRISTMAS SEASON ON KMAQ, ON MONDAY. THEY WILL BE AIRED EACH AFTERNOON AT 3:05. REMEBER FIBBER AND MOLLY?

JACKSON COUNTY SHERIFF RUSS KETTMAN IS SUGGESTING THE COUNTY SUPERVISORS LOOK AT USING THE FORMER ANDREW JACKSON CARE FACILITY FOR A SHERIFF'S OFFICE AND JAIL. THIS WEEK, DURING A WORK SESSION, HE TOLD THE SUPERVISORS HE HAD RECEIVED AN ESTIMATE FOR EXPANDING THE PRESENT JAIL TO ALLOW FOR SIX MORE BEDS AND A VISITING AREA. THE ESTIMATE, WHICH HE CONSIDERED HIGH, WAS FOR $550,000 AND THE END RESULT WOULD ALSO ELIMINATE MOST OF THE CURRENT EXCERCISE YARD.

THE JACKSON COUNTY HISTORICAL SOCIETY WILL HAVE THEIR ANNUAL HOLIDAY FUND RAISER NEXT TUESDAY EVENING AT THE MUSEUM....THE HOLIDAY BASKET AUCTION AND SOUP SUPPER, STARTING AT 5 P.M.
