MOSTLY CLOUDY THIS AFTERNOON AFTER A THUNDER AND LIGHTNING STORM AND SOME GOOD RAIN AROUND 8 THIS MORNING. HIGH TODAY 65.

A HOMECOMING VICTORY LAST NIGHT......
MAQUOKETA 23
CENTER POINT URBANA 12

I LOST A GOOD FRIEND LAST NIGHT. ED TUBBS DIED AT THE AGE OF 90.
GO TO CARSON AND SON WEB SITE FOR THE PARTIAL OBITUARY.
I HAVE KNOWN ED SINCE HE AND HIS PARTNER, THE LATE JOHN FAGERLAND,
BOUGHT THE MAQUOKETA STATE BANK IN THE 60'S. AND SINCE THAT TIME,
THE MAQUOKETA STATE BANK, YEAR AFTER YEAR, HAS BEEN KMAQ'S NUMBER
ONE ADVERTISER. AND MAQUOKETA STATE BANK HAS BEEN THE BANK THAT
GAVE ME MY LOANS OVER THE YEARS TO BUY KMAQ, THE THEATRES, ETC.
WHEN KMAQ HAD TO MOVE AT MIDNIGHT BECAUSE OF THE MAJOR FIRE TO THE COAST TO COAST STORE IN 1970, ADJACENT TO THE KMAQ STUDIOS, ED...AND JOHN...WERE THE FIRST TO COME TO MY HOME AND OFFER THE HELP THAT I NEEDED. AND ED AND I HAVE BEEN MAQUOKETA ROTARIANS ALL THOSE YEARS AND
ATTENDED MOST WEDNESDAY MEETINGS. AND THE LAST FEW YEARS, ED
HAS BEEN A "REGULAR" IN OUR 9:30 A.M. COFFEE GROUP AT THE DECKER.
AND ED AND ELAINE HAVE BEEN ON TWO OR THREE KMAQ-TRAVEL BUS TRIPS
TO BRANSON. AND THEY HAVE DINED WITH NANCY AND I ON OCCASSION
THE LAST COUPLE YEARS. AND ED HAS CONTRIBUTED FINANCIALLY TO THE
MANY NEEDS AND WANTS OF MAQUOKETA, THE MOST NOTEWORTHY BEING
THE OHNWARD FINE ARTS CENTER ON EAST PLATT STREET. THE NAME OHNWARD
BANKS CAME FROM JOHNEDWARD AND IT ONLY FITTING THAT HIS FUNERAL
WILL BE THERE. BIG ENOUGH TO HOLD THE MANY MOURNER FRIENDS OF ED.
AND I COULD GO ON AND ON. AND ED KEPT TRYING TO GO ON AND ON. THE LAST COUPLE YEARS, HE WENT WHENEVER HE COULD, SLOWLY AND OFTEN IN PAIN, RATHER THAN STAY HOME AS MANY WOULD HAVE. MY SYMPATHY TO HIS
WIFE ELAINE, AND HIS THREE SONS, AL, STEVE AND BILL AND THEIR FAMILIES.
FROM FARMING IN RURAL ELWOOD TO BANKING IN MAQUOKETA AND EASTERN
IOWA, HE DID IT RIGHT! HE JOINS HIS FRIEND JOHN AND NOW THERE'S
OHNWARD UP THERE TOO.

HAPPY BIG 4-0 TODAY TO THE VOICE OF THE CARDINALS AT GOODENOW

IS AT MAQUOKETA STATE BANK WHERE HE'S A LOAN OFFICER.

JACKSON COUNTY SHERIFF DEPUTIES SAY THEY ARE FOLLOWING UP ON TIPS THEY
HAVE RECEIVED FROM THE PUBLIC CONCERNING THE BANK ROBBERY LAST WEEK
AT THE ANDREW BANK. LAST NIGHT THERE WAS A RAID ON A MAQUOKETA HOME
AND IT MAY HAVE HAD TO DO WITH THE ROBBERY. FOUR DEPUTIES AND
TWO MAQUOKETA POLICE OFFICERS WERE AT THE HOME ON EAST QUARRY FOR MORE THAN AN HOUR LATE YESTERDAY AFTERNOON. A JUDGE SEALED THE SEARCH WARRANT SO INFORMATION ON WHAT THEY WERE DOING THERE AND
WHAT THEY FOUND IS NOT AVAILABLE TO THE PUBLIC.

A GOODWILL STORE MAY MOVE INTO THE FORMER FAREWAY STORE IN DOWNTOWN MAQUOKETA. A COMPANY SPOKEMAN SAID THEY ARE TALKING WITH THE OWNER OF THE BUILDING, DUSTIN EDWARDS, AND NEED TO DO AN APPRAISAL AND
ENVIRONMENTAL STUDY TO MAKE SURE THE BUILDING IS SUITABLE.
THEY HOPE TO HAVE THE STUDY DONE BY MID OCTOBER AND THEN CLOSE ON THE SALE OF THE BUILDING. THEY THEN WOULD NEED SEVERAL MONTHS TO
RENOVATE THE BUILDING BEFORE OPENING THE RETAIL FACILITY SOMETIME
EARLY NEXT YEAR. SURE WOULD BE NICE TO HAVE THE BUILDING OPEN
AGAIN. SOMEONE ASKED ME TODAY IF GOODWILL WOULD PAY REAL ESTATE
TAXES ON IT SINCE GOODWILL IS A NON-PROFIT ORGANIZATION. I DON'T HAVE THE ANSWER.

MAQUOKETA HAS A NEW HEAD WRESTLING COACH. HE IS KYLE BILLUPS AND HE REPLACES TOD BOWMAN WHO RESIGNED AT THE END OF LAST SEASON. HAS HE SERVED AS AN ASSISTANT UNDER BOWMAN FOR THE PAST SEVERAL SEASONS.

GARY DREW STOPPED IN TODAY TO SHOW ME A PHOTO OF THE BUILDING HE
PLANS TO PUT UP AT HIS BIODISEL PLANT NORTH OF MAQUOKETA. IT
WILL BE 15,000 SQUARE FEET, THE MAXIMUM HE CAN PUT ON HIS LAND.
HE SAID IT WILL MEET HIS NEEDS FOR ABOUT 3 YEARS. AND, IT IS A BUILDING
THAT THEN CAN BE EASILY MOVED TO ANOTHER LOCATION. IT CONSISTS
OF A RIGID ALUMINUM FRAMEWORK WITH A HEAVY STRETCHED FABRIC.
HAS MANY ADVANTAGES IN ADDITION TO BEING PORTABLE. THERE IS A VERY LARGE ONE AT DYERSVILLE ALONG HIGHWAY 20, WHERE THE AREA SALES
OUTLET FOR THE STRUCTURES IS LOCATED. GARY TRIED TO BUY THE EMPTY S & H
BUILDING IN THE TIMBER CITY INDUSTRIAL PARK IN MAQUOKETA. THE COUNTY OWNS THAT 50,000 SQUARE FOOT BUILDING AND TURNED DOWN HIS OFFER
OF SLIGHTLY OVER $200,000. GARY SAID HIS BUSINESS IS GROWING AND
IN A FEW YEARS, HE WILL NEED TO RELOCATE TO AN AREA THAT WILL HAVE MORE SPACE FOR EXPANSION. HE SAID HE WOULD LIKE TO STAY IN THIS AREA, BUT
AT THIS TIME IS DOUBTFUL IT WILL BE IN JACKSON COUNTY. WE'LL HAVE
TO WORK ON HIM TO KEEP THE JOBS SOMEWHERE AROUND MAQUOKETA.
MOST OF YOU KNOW THAT GARY WAS THE KEY FORCE BEHIND THE BUILDING,
OVER SEVERAL YEARS, OF THE OHNWARD FINE ARTS CENTER IN MAQUOKETA.

HAVE YOU LISTENED TO KMAQ-FM ON YOUR LAP TOP YET? LISTEN TO THE GAME TOMORROW NIGHT! JUST GO TO www.kmaq.com HOME PAGE AND START LISTENING. WATCH THE CARS GO BY THE STATION AT THE SAME TIME.
THE M-S-B CLOCK WILL ALSO GIVE YOU MAQUOKETA'S TIME AND
TEMPERATURE.

AT SIX O'CLOCK TONIGHT, I'LL GO OUT AND WAVE TO YOU!
REMEMBER, ON TV ONE LOOKS HEAVIER!

HAVE A GOOD THURSDAY NIGHT AND FRIDAY!

TERRIFIC WEATHER DAY!

AT CITY COUNCIL MEETING LAST NIGHT, IN A SPLIT VOTE, THE COUNCIL SAID THEY WILL GO FOR BIDS FOR THE PROPOSED WALKING SIDEWALK (TRAIL) ON SOUTH MAIN OUT TO WAL MART. THE STREET COMMITTEE HAD SUGGESTED THE PROJECT
BE STOPPED BECAUSE OF LACK OF PUBLIC SUPPORT AND THE COST.
VOTING AGAINST "DUMPING" THE PROJECT, AMY MOORE, MARGO SHOUSE,
NEIL MOREHEAD AND ERIC PAPE. VOTING TO STOP THE PROJECT, ED TURNEY,
DON SCHWENKER AND TODD MANG. NOW, THE FINAL DECISION WILL BE MADE AFTER THE COUNCIL RECEIVES THE BIDS.

AT THE SCHOOL BOARD MEETING LAST NIGHT, MEMBERS TOOK NO ACTION
ON AN INFORMAL PROPOSAL FOR THE CITY OF MAQUOKETA TO SELL THE OLD
POOL PROPERTY TO THE THE DISTRICT FOR $1.00.
THE CITY COUNCIL LAST NIGHT VOTED TO MAKE THE OFFER TO THE SCHOOL, FOR $1.00, BUT DID NOT OFFER TO HELP WITH THE FUNDING FOR CLEAN-UP OF THE PROPERTY. OVER A YEAR AGO, THE CITY HAD INDICATED THEY NOT ONLY WOULD
SELL THE PROPERTY TO THE DISTRICT FOR $1.00, BUT ALSO GIVE $30,000 TO HELP PAY FOR THE REMOVAL OF POOL AND BUILDING AND CLEAN-UP.
SO, NOTHING HAS BEEN DECIDED BY EITHER GROUP. THE SCHOOL DISTRICT
WOULD USE THE PROPERTY FOR MORE PARKING FOR THE FOOTBALL GAMES.
I WAS AT THE OPENING GAME OF THE SEASON AND CARS PARKED FOR BLOCKS ON CITY STREETS IN ALL DIRECTIONS FROM GOODENOW FIELD, EXCEPT TO THE SOUTH,
WHICH IS THE CEMETERY. YES, MORE PARKING WOULD BE NICE, BUT ON FOUR OR FIVE GAME NIGHTS A YEAR, I DON'T KNOW HOW THE PARKING ON THE POOL
CORNER WOULD HELP MUCH. I HAVE NOT HEARD HOW MANY PARKING SPOTS
WOULD BE AVAILABLE ON THAT CORNER. I PERSONALLY THINK THE CITY
NEEDS THE CORNER CLEANED UP MORE THAN THE DISTRICT NEEDS SOME PARKING SPACES. LET THE DISCUSSIONS CONTINUE, AND I'LL KEEP YOU POSTED.
CHIP IN $50,000, AND THEY WILL NAME THE CORNER AFTER YOU. LIKE THE NAME GOODENOW, YOUR NAME WILL BE THERE FOR A CENTURY OR MORE.

YES...WE ARE STILL HAVING CAR-DEER ACCIDENTS. ONE YESTERDAY ON HIGHWAY 62.

A BIRTH. JENSEN AND MICHELLE TYLER OF CEDAR RAPIDS ARE PARENTS OF A BOY, BORN LAST NIGHT AT ST. LUKE'S HOSPITAL IN CEDAR RAPIDS. GRANDPARENTS
ARE BRUCE AND SHERRY RUCHOTZKE OF MAQUOKETA.

A NEW CHINESE RESTAURANT WILL OPEN SOON IN THE WESTGATE SHOPPING MALL ACROSS FROM CASEY'S WEST. THE TWO OWNERS HAVE FOUR OR FIVE CHINESE
RESTAURANTS IN THE QUAD CITIES. IT WILL BE CALLED THE CHINESE CAFE.
DINE-IN OR CARRY OUT. IT WILL BE THE SECOND FOR THE CITY. THE GREAT WALL HAS BEEN OPEN DOWNTOWN FOR MANY YEARS. A FEW YEARS AGO, WHEN
DICK'S SUPER MARKET OPENED, THERE WAS A CARRY-OUT CHINESE PLACE IN ONE CORNER OF THE STORE, AND NOT OPERATED BY DICK'S. BUT IT CLOSED AFTER BEING OPEN ONLY A YEAR OR SO.

IF I HAD A FORTUNE COOKIE TO ENJOY NOW, THE MESSAGE IN IT WOULD PROBABLY SAY..."YOU NEED TO END YOUR DAILY REPORT AND ENJOY THE EVENING".

EARLIER THIS MORNING, A
PHOTO BELOW WAS TAKEN
OF THE HOUSE BEING MOVED
TODAY FROM ADJACENT TO
THE BRAD DEERY MOTORS
NEW CAR LOTS. RIGHT NOW,
HERE'S WHAT REMAINS.
THE GARAGE WILL BE MOVED
LATER BUT NOT BY THE
MOVING COMPANY. THE LOT
IS NOW OWNED BY BRAD DEERY MOTORS AND WILL BE PAVED
AND USED FOR NEW AND USED CAR DISPLAYS. THE HOUSE
STARTED ON ITS WAY AROUND
9 THIS MORNING AND WAS
AT THE NEW LOCATION BY
10:30. SEE OTHER PHOTOS BELOW AND AS ALWAYS, CLICK-ON THE PHOTOS TO ENLARGE THEM.
AFTER YOU HAVE FINISHED LOOKING AT THE PHOTOS, LIKE ME, YOU WILL KNOW
MORE ABOUT THE HOUSE MOVING BUSINESS. THIS COMPANY ALSO MOVES
BARNS AND OTHER BUILDINGS AND HAS DONE WORK IN MAQUOKETA BEFORE.
I ENJOYED VISITING WITH THEM.
DENNIS VOY
MAKING THE CORNER OF
QUARRY AND MAIN. THE MOVING COMPANY IS FROM
WADENA, ABOUT 100 MILES NORTH OF HERE. A FAMILY
BUSINESS. THEY NORMALLY DO
WORK WITHIN A MAXIMUM OF
100 MILES. IT IS A FAMILY
OPERATION AND THE GREAT-
GRANDFATHER MOVED HOUSES
WITH MULES ABOUT 100 YEARS AGO. THERE ARE ABOUT 10
HOUSE MOVING COMPANIES IN
IOWA AND NEARLY 50 IN THIS
PART OF THE MIDWEST. THEY EVEN HAVE AN ANNUAL
CONVENTION. THE SLOW
ECONOMY HAS HELPED THEIR BUSINESS AS PEOPLE ARE FIXING UP OLDER HOMES. HALF OF THEIR JOBS
INVOLVE RAISING A HOUSE SO THAT A NEW BASEMENT AND FOUDATION CAN
BE PUT UNDER IT.
DENNIS VOY

GOING NORTH ON MAIN STREET.
ONLY ONE ELECTRIC LINE
HAD TO BE LOWERED FOR THIS
MOVE, PLUS A COUPLE CABLE-
TV LINES. AND NO TREES WERE
EFFECTED. PRETTY EASY
MOVE. THE CREW OF 5 STARTED THE JOB YESTERDAY AND WILL
FINISH THE JOB TOMORROW MORNING.

THE HOUSE IS NOW READY TO
GO UP ON THE NEW FOUNDATION AND BASEMENT, AT THE CORNER OF EAST APPLE AND NORTH ELIZA STREETS.
IT WAS AT THIS CORNER, THAT
THE MAQUOKETA FIRE DEPARTMENT DID A CONTROLLED FIRE OF AN OLD HOUSE ABOUT A YEAR AGO.
DARWIN LYON OF MAQUOKETA
HAS OWNED THE CORNER LOT
AND PURCHASED THE HOUSE TO
BE MOVED TO THE CORNER.
I UNDERSTAND HE WILL
PROBABLY ADD AN ATTACHED
GARAGE AND THEN SELL THE
HOME, OR RENT IT. THANKS TO DARWIN FOR SAVING A GOOD LITTLE HOUSE IN MAQUOKETA.

IT IS HOUSE MOVING DAY TODAY IN MAQUOKETA.
SEE THE HOUSE AT RIGHT......
READY TO BE MOVED FROM
NEXT TO BRAD DEERY MOTORS
NEW CAR LOTS.
I HAVE NOT HEARD WHERE IT
IS MOVING TO. THERE ARE
NO-PARKING SIGNS ON
QUARRY TOWARD MAIN, SO
IT WILL LEAVE GOING TO THE EAST. I'LL TRY TO
GET ANOTHER BETTER PHOTO
LATER. COLD IN MAQUOKETA THIS MORNING....6:30 A.M.
AND 48 DEGREES. BUT, NICE
DAY AHEAD, IN LOW 70'S.

HAVE A GOOD WEDNESDAY.

CLICK-ON THIS PHOTO TO ENLARGE IT AND YOU WILL SEE
SEVERAL US FLAGS.
THEY ARE ALL OVER TOWN, THANKS TO THE MAQUOKETA OPTMIST CLUB.
THE MEMBERS PUT UP THE FLAGS AT THE START OF EACH
MAJOR HOLIDAY AND TAKE
THEM DOWN AT THE END.
THEY WILL HAVE FIVE TEAMS TAKINGD THEM DOWN LATER THIS AFTERNOON AND THERE ARE OVER 350 TO PICK UP.
RESIDENTS PAY SO MUCH A YEAR
TO HAVE A FLAG FLYING IN THEIR FRONT YARD EACH
NATIONAL HOLIDAY. IT IS A MONEY-MAKER FOR THE CLUB FOR THEIR MANY
COMMUNITY PROJECTS, BUT MORE IMPORTANT, IT MAKES MAQUOKETA THE
US FLAG CITY OF IOWA. CLICK-ON THE PHOTO TO ENLARGE IT.
THANKS OPTIMIST MEMBERS!!

THE MONDAY DAILY REPORT IS BELOW, PLUS SOME OTHER PHOTOS I TOOK TODAY.

THANKS FOR THE VISIT.

A STRONG WINDSTORM PASSED THROUGH MAQUOKETA AROUND 1:30 THIS MORNING.
DOWNED ONE TREE THAT BLOCKED A STREET. WORKERS MOVED THE TREE AFTER THE STORM. THERE WAS RAIN, BUT NOT A LOT.
CLOUDY AND WINDY THIS MORNING. SHOULD MAKE IT INTO 80'S TODAY.

LABOR DAY 2010 AND SOME OF US HAVE TO LABOR. WAS UP TO THE CEMETERY
FOR A FEW MINUTES AND WATCHED 3 GENTLEMEN FROM MAQUOKETA DIG
FORREST TUBB'S GRAVE. THEY SAID IT IS A 2 AND 1/2 HOUR JOB. THEY CAN'T USE A MACHINE BECAUSE THE GRAVE IS BETWEEN HEADSTONES AND IMPOSSIBLE FOR EQUIPMENT TO GET TO THE SITE. HARD JOB, BUT SOMEONE HAS TO DO IT....AND
ON LABOR DAY IF NECESSARY. FORREST TUBBS FUNERAL IS TOMORROW
MORNING. I KNEW FORREST, AGE 99, PRETTY WELL. HE DID SOME CARPENTER WORK FOR ME AT THE PEARSON CENTER AND I PURCHASED APPLES FROM HIS POPULAR ORCHARD. THE APPLES ARE NOT BEING HARVESTED AGAIN THIS YEAR.
EVERYONE WONDERS WHAT EVENTUALLY WILL HAPPEN TO THE ORCHARD ON
WESTERN AVENUE.
ON THE SUBJECT OF APPLES......NANCY AND I, FRIDAY NIGHT ON THE WAY HOME
FROM MINNESOTA, STOPPED AT GAYS MILLS, WISCONSIN, THE APPLE CAPITOL
OF THE MIDWEST. THE SMALL TOWN OF 600 IS LOCATED ABOUT AN HOUR
OR MORE NORTHWEST OF DUBUQUE ON HIGHWAY 61. IT IS 6 MILES OFF OF 61,
AND DRIVING TO THE TOWN, ALL YOU SEE THE ENTIRE WAY ON BOTH SIDES OF THE
HIGHWAY IS APPLE ORCHARD AFTER APPLE ORCHARD. THERE ARE 5 OR 6 STORES
ON THE HIGHWAY AND WE STOPPED AT THE LARGEST CALLED SUNRISE ORCHARD.
AT THIS TIME OF YEAR, THEY HIRE 130 PEOPLE. ABOUT 30 DO THE PICKING, AND OTHERS THE PROCESSING, PACKAGING, AND WORK AT THE RETAIL STORE.
A GOOD PICKER CAN PICK 100 BUSHEL A DAY. THEY HAVE ALL KINDS, AND SAMPLES
OF EACH. THE TOWN HAS AN APPLE FESTIVAL THE LAST WEEKEND OF
SEPTEMBER, THE KICK-OFF OF THE SEASON. THE BIGGEST MONTH OF THE
YEAR IS OCTOBER AND THEY STAY OPEN UNTIL CHRISTMAS. AN INTERESTING PLACE. WE MAY GO BACK FOR MORE APPLES IN OCTOBER.

SAW THE HAWKEYES BEAT EASTERN ILLINOIS SATURDAY. THE HAWKS LOOKED GOOD. IOWA STATE ALSO WON LAST WEEK AND THE TWO FACE EACH OTHER
THIS SATURDAY AFTERNOON. ALWAYS A GOOD GAME.

HAVE A NICE LABOR DAY AND GOOD WEEK AHEAD.

LABOR DAY MORNING! NOW, TURNING TO FOOTBALL. THIS IS MAQUOKETA'S FOOTBALL FIELD, GOODENOW FIELD. GRUBS IN THE GRASS. YOU CAN'T SEE
IT, BUT A GRASS SPRINKLER WAS GOING AS I TOOK THIS PICTURE. THE FIELD
WAS BAD FOR THE OPENING GAMES A WEEK AGO AND SINCE THEN THEY HAVE
BEEN WORKING HARD TO IMPROVE THE TURF. THE NEXT GAME IS STILL
NEARLY 2 WEEKS AWAY, SO HOPEFULLY, IT WILL BE BETTER BY THEN. WHAT YOU SEE HERE IS PROBABLY THE WORST PART OF THE FIELD. THE UNDER-GRADE
GAMES ARE NOT BEING PLAYED HERE BUT AT THE HIGH SCHOOL PRACTICE FIELD
INSTEAD.
AND...MAQUOKETA WON FRIDAY NIGHT, DEFEATING MT. VERNON, 23 TO 17, IN A
NON-DISTRICT GAME. THE CARDINALS ARE NOW 2 AND 0 AND NEXT WEEK WILL TRAVEL TO VINTON-SHELLSBURG. THEN, BACK HOME THE WEEK AFTER TO
HOST CENTER POINT-URBANA.

LABOR DAY MORNING! THIS PHOTO I TOOK DOWNTOWN AT THE SITE OF THE
BURNED OUT BUILDINGS. I SUPPOSE IT HAS BEEN TWO MONTHS SINCE THE
CLEAN-UP WAS FINISHED, AND THE SEEDING OF GRASS WAS DONE. FOR SOME
REASON, THE GRASS HAS BEEN VERY SLOW IN COMING UP, AS YOU CAN SEE.
IT WAS GOOD BLACK DIRT THAT WAS PUT IN THE HUGE HOLE AND THEY HAVE
BEEN WATERING THE NEW GRASS WEEKLY AND WE HAVE HAD THE 2ND WETTEST
SUMMER IN HISTORY......BUT STILL NOT DESCENT GRASS. IN IOWA , WE GROW THE BEST CORN AND SOYBEANS AND HAY, BUT WE HAVE TROUBLE GROWING GRASS.
DON'T TELL ANYBODY. CLICK-ON PHOTO TO ENLARGE IT.
ON THE OTHER HAND, MY LAWN WAS MOWED WEEKLY BY DARON FUGLSANG AND
COULD HAVE BEEN DONE EVEN MORE OFTEN. THERE WAS A LOT OF LAWN
MOWING DONE THIS SUMMER IN MAQUOKETA.

NEARLY A HALF INCH OF RAIN LAST NIGHT....
TODAY, SUNNY, WINDY AND COOLER...
AND GOOD WEATHER FOR THE REST OF THE HOLIDAY WEEKEND, INCLUDING
MONDAY, LABOR DAY.

THE ANDREW BRANCH OF THE MAQUOKETA STATE BANK WAS ROBBED AT 3:21
YESTERDAY AFTERNOON. THE BANK TELLER, NOT IDENTIFIED, SAID TWO
BLACK MALES ENTERED THE BANK INQUIRING ABOUT A LOAN. THEN ONE OF THE
MEN PULLED OUT A CHROME-COLORED PISTOL AND DEMANDED MONEY.
BOTH MEN LEFT THE BANK WITH AN UNDISCLOSED AMOUNT OF CASH.
THE TELLER WAS NOT INJURED AND THE MEN HAVE NOT BEEN CAUGHT.

HAVE A FUN AND SAFE LABOR DAY WEEKEND.

JUST OVER AN INCH OF RAIN LAST NIGHT. TODAY, CLOUDY AND SPRINKLES.
RAIN POSSIBLE TONIGHT AND TOMORROW, BUT 4-DAY WEEKEND WEATHER
STILL LOOKING PRETTY GOOD.

THE JACKSON COUNTY BOARD OF SUPERVISORS WILL HAVE TO MAKE SURE
THE LEVEE IS FIXED AT GREEN ISLAND, BUT THE MONEY WILL COME FROM
THE 39 PROPERTY OWNERS IN THE DISTRICT THERE. THE SUPERVISORS
CAN NOT PAY FOR THE WORK OUT OF THE GENERAL FUND, BUT COULD LOAN THE MONEYTO THE DRAINAGE DISTRICT TO BE PAID BACK OVER TWO YEARS.

THE MAQUOKETA CITY COUNCIL STREET COMMITTEE WILL RECOMMEND NOT PURSUING THE SOUTH MAIN STREET TRAIL TO WAL MART.
THE CITY HAS RECEIVED A $250,000 GRANT TOWARD THE $425,000
TRAIL (SIDEWALK) AND THE CITY'S MATCH OF $175,000 WOULD COME FROM
ROAD USE TAX. BUT THEN, THAT WOULD BE ROAD USE TAX MONEY THAT
COULD BE USED FOR OTHER STREET IMPROVEMENTS IN THE TOWN.
THE PLAN HAD CALLED FOR A 10FOOT WIDE SIDEWALK FROM HORSESHOW
POND PARK TO WAL MART AND WOULD INCLUDE A PEDESTRIAN BRIDGE OVER
PRAIRIE CREEK. PERSONALLY, I DON'T THINK THE WALKWAY IS NECESSARY
EITHER. THERE ARE BETTER WAYS TO SPEND ROAD USE TAX MONEY AND
THIS WILL ALSO SAVE THE TREES ALONG THE PARK.

A $20.32 GASOLINE DRIVE-OFF YESTERDAY AT CASEY'S ON WESTGATE
DRIVE.

THE MAQUOKETA HIGH SCHOOL GIRL'S VOLLEYBALL TEAM WON THE PRESTON TOURNAMENT LAST NIGHT, WITH A 3 AND 0 RECORD.

THEY ARE WORKING HARD TO IMPROVE THE PLAYING FIELD AT GOODENOW
FOOTBALL FIELD. THE PROBLEM....A BAD CASE OF GRUBS. THE
SKUNKS ADD TO THE PROBLEM, BECAUSE THEY COME IN AT NIGHT TO FEED
ON THE DELICIOUS GRUBS AND MAKE THE PROBLEM WORSE. BUT,
SCHOOL OFFICIALS ARE PRETTY SURE THEY CAN HAVE THE GRASS LOOKING
MUCH BETTER BY THE NEXT HOME GAMES ON SEPTEMBER 17TH, OVER 2 WEEKS
AWAY.

A NEW LIBRARIAN HAS BEEN HIRED TO REPLACE RETIRING KAREN MANNING.
THE ANNOUNCEMENT COMING SOON.

HAVE A GOOD WEDNESDAY NIGHT AND THURSDAY. I WILL NOT HAVE
A REPORT TOMORROW.

REMEMBER, YOU CAN GET ALL THE NEWS BY LISTENING AT THE KMAQ
WEB SITE.....AT 7:45 A.M.....12:15 P.M. AND 5:05 P.M. AND WHEN THERE IS NOT A ST. LOUIS CARDINALS GAME, ALSO AT 9:45 P.M. JUST GO TO KMAQ'S HOME
