THE WEATHER CONTINUES TO BE THE TOPIC OF CONVERSATION. THE FORECAST WILL CALL FOR A CHANCE OF RAIN, BUT NONE COMES. AND WE STAY AROUND 90 EVERY DAY. 91 TODAY.

MAQUOKETA BOYS LOST TO DAVENPORT ASSUMPTION, NON-CONVERENCE, LAST NIGHT, 9 TO 2 AND TONIGHT ARE PLAYING SOUTH TAMA FOR THE FINAL REGULAR GAME OF SEASON. THEY ARE 14 AND 21, JUST A LITTLE BETTER RECORD THAN LAST YEAR. THE 3-A DISTRICT TOURNAMENT WILL BE PLAYED IN MAQUOEKTA, STARTING THIS FRIDAY.

SAGE ROSENFELS IS HOME FOR VACATION. HE IS IN HIS 5TH SEASON AS A QUARTERBACK IN THE NFL, THE LAST 3 WITH THE MIAMI DOLPHONS. HE REPORTS FOR TRAINING CAMP ON JULY 24TH.

BETTY TELLEFSON BARWICK, 80, DIED JULY 7TH. IN ATHENS, GEORGIA. SHE WAS PRECEDED IN DEATH BY HER HUSBANDS, DON TELLEFSON AND WILLIAM BARWICK. SHE AND THE TELLEFSON FAMILY LIVED IN MAQUOKETA MANY YEARS AGO. SURVIVORS INCLUDE TWO SONS, TERRY OF ATHENS, GEORGIA AND DEAN OF AURORA, COLORADO AND 8 GRANDCHILDREN.

JIM RANKIN OF THE MAQUOKETA VFW APPEARED BEFORE THE BOARD OF SUPEVISORS THIS WEEK AND ASKED THAT THE COUNTY DESIGNATE OLD HIGH T61 AS "VETERANS HIGHWAY".
CLINTON COUNTY HAS DONE THE SAME FOR HIGHWAY 61. THE SUPERVISORS ARE IN FAVOR OF DOING SO AND SUGGESTED RANKIN TRY TO GET BUSINESS PLACES TO PAY FOR THE NEW SIGNS AND THE COUNTY WOULD PUT THEM UP.

IT IS TIME TO FILE NOMINATION PAPERS FOR SCHOOL BOARD ELECTIONS ON ELECTION DAY,
SEPTEMBER 13TH. MAQUOKETA HAS TWO POSITIONS UP FOR ELECTION. THE CURRENT MEMBERS OF THOSE ARE ANNE HAWKS AND BILL SCHWENKER. PAPERS MUST BE FILED NO LATER THAN AUGUST 4TH.

BOB AND MYRNA LARKEY CELEBRATED THEIR 36TH WEDDING ANNIVERSARY YESTERDAY.
BOB STILL RUNS MAQUOKETA LIVESTOCK SALES AND HAS 3 HARNESS HORSES THAT WILL BE RACING THIS SUMMER.

THE CEDAR COUNTY FAIR IN TIPTON STARTS TOMORROW. LEIGHTON HEPKER AND I WILL BE BROADCASTING FROM THE FAIR TOMORROW AND THURSDAY.
