THE MAQUOKETA CITY COUNCIL SET MONDAY, NOV. 16TH FOR A PUBLIC HEARING FOR COMMENTS ON THE COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT PLAN FOR THE DOWNTOWN
FIRE DEBRIS CLEAN UP. THE PUBLIC MEETING IS REQUIRED BY LAW BY THE EPA, AS PART OF THE $250,000 THEY ARE GIVING THE CITY FOR CLEAN UP.
AFTER THAT PUBLIC HEARING, BIDS CAN BE TAKEN FOR THE CLEAN UP.
TIME WILL BE NEEDED TO ADVERTISE FOR THE BIDS, THEN THE CLEAN UP
CONTRACT CAN BE AWARDED TO THE LOW QUALIFIED BIDDER AND THEN
THAT COMPANY CAN START THE CLEAN UP SOMETIME AFTER.
CHRIS WEIRUP OF SOUTH SECOND STREET IN MAQUOKETA REPORTED TO THE
POLICE DEPARTMENT LAST NIGHT THAT SOMEONE SLASHED TIRES AND
CUT A FUEL LINE ON HIS VEHICLE AND BROKE TWO WINDOWS AT THE REAR OF HIS
HOUSE.
DARYL PARKER IS THE NEW PRESIDENT OF THE JACKSON COUNTY AREA
TOURISM ASSOCIATION. HE IS THE DIRECTOR FOR JACKSON COUNTY
CONSERVATION AND HAS HIS OFFICE AT THE HURSTVILLE INTERPRETIVE
CENTER NORTH OF MAQUOKETA. HE LIVES IN BELLEVUE.
THE TOURISM ASSOCIATION NOW RUNS THE WELCOME CENTER IN
SABULA. AND, STARTING THIS NOVEMBER, IT WILL NOT BE OPEN NOVEMBER
THROUGH MARCH. DURING THOSE MONTHS, INQUIRIES ABOUT TOURISM
SHOULD BE DIRECTED TO THE HURSTVILLE INTERPRETIVE CENTER.
ANYONE INTERESTED IN PROMOTING TOURISM IN JACKSON COUNTY AND THE IMMEDIATE AREA CAN JOIN THE ASSOCIATION FOR $40 A YEAR. THE
ORGANIZATION HAS A MONTHLY MEETING. KMAQ HAS BEEN A MEMBER OF
MANY YEARS.
