HOT AGAIN TODAY...LOW 90'S, BUT BREEZY TOO.

A MAQUOKETA TEENAGER, DEREK VAN AMBURG, 14, IS IN FAIR CONDITION TODAY AFTER HE WAS RUN OVER BY A TRUCK AT AROUND 2:30 THIS MORNING AT THE 6 B'S
CAMPGROUND NORTHWEST OF MAQUOKETA, OFF THE CAVES ROAD, ON THE MAQUOKETA RIVER, A PRIVATE CAMPGROUND.

AT THE CITY COUNCIL MEETING LAST NIGHT, IT WAS DECIDED TO EXPAND THE MAQUOKETA CIVIL SERVICE COMMISSION FROM 3 TO 5 MEMBERS. IT IS THE COMMISSION THAT WILL HELP SELECT THE NEW POLICE CHIEF. IT HAS TWO MEMBERS NOW, JEFF TAMPIER AND KARYN GOODENOW. BOB THOMAS WAS ON IT, BUT COULD NOT REMAIN ON IT SINCE HE IS AN ELECTED OFFICIAL, A MEMBER OF THE HOSPITAL BOARD. TO REPLACE HIM IMMEDIATELY, CHUCK BARNETT. TO
GO ON COMMISSION AS SOON AS THE ORDINANCE CHANGE IS OFFICIAL....JOE ROLLINGER AND RALPH ROBOVSKY.

COURT NEWS: MEGAN PRICE, 18, OF MAQUOKETA WAS FINED $467 ON CHARGES OF POSSESSION OF DRUG PARAPHENALIA.
DEAN SCHROEDER, AGE 48, OF MAQUOKETA, WAS SENTENCED TO 30 DAYS IN JAIL, 26 SUSPENDED, ON CHARGES OF POSSESSION OF METHAMPHETAMINE, A CONTROLLED SUBSTANCE.
VICTOR VELEZ TORO OF MAQUOKETA, AGE 33, WAS FINED $500 ON CHARGES OF POSSESSION OF A CONTROLLED SUBSTANCE, MARIJUANA.

GEORGE MARVIN, 81, OF MAQUOKETA, DIED THIS MORNING AT THE MAQUOKETA CARE CENTER. HE WAS IN BOTH WW2 AND THE KOREAN CONFLICT. HE WORKED AS AN IOWA ELECTRIC LINEMAN FOR 25 YEARS IN THIS AREA. HE IS SURVIVED BY HIS WIFE, ANNA, AND 4 CHILDREN, ...DONN IN LIBERTVILLE, ILLINOIS....BARB SCHMIDT IN MAQUOKETA....SUE MAYBERRY IN MAQUOKETA AND MARVIN OF GILBERT, ARIZONA.
