MONDAY'S MEMORIAL DAY PROGRAM WAS AGAIN HELD AT THE MAQUOKETA
MIDDLE SCHOOL.    THE MAQUOKETA HIGH SCHOOL BAND, DIRECTED BY KENT
CRAWFORD, PLAYED SEVERAL SELECTIONS BEFORE 10:30 AND SEVERAL
DURING THE PROGRAM.      AMERICAN LEGION COMMANDER CLIFF MERRICK
WAS THE MASTER OF CEREMONIES.       THE ADDRESS WAS GIVEN BY RETIRED
TEACHER PAM CRAWFORD.      SHE STROLLED TO THE PODIUM WEARING A
CIVIL WAR ERA DRESS AND SPOKE AS THE MOTHER OF WILL CUNDILL, A FAMOUS
MAQUOKETA PHOTOGRAPHER OF OVER 70 YEARS.    IT TOOK A LOT OF WORK BY PAM RESEARCHING MAQUOKETA WARTIME HISTORY TO GIVE HER SPEACH.    IT WAS
DIFFERENT AND WELL LIKED BY ALL.
THE WEATHER WAS BEAUTIFUL IN MAQUOKETA AND I HEARD LOTS OF NICE
COMMENTS ABOUT THE NEW VINYL FENCE AT MT. HOPE CEMETERY.     THE
FENCE WAS DONATED BY DAN WAITE OF MAQUOKETA.     TODAY, DAN STOPPED AT
KMAQ TO HAVE US SAY THANKS FOR ALL THE WONDERFUL COMMENTS
HE HAS RECEIVED.    AND, HE ALSO WANTED US TO MENTION OTHERS THAT WERE
RESPONSIBLE FOR THE FENCE,  INCLUDING:    MARK McLAUGHLIN OF MAQUOKETA,
WHO HAS A BUSINESS CALLED "BACKYARD VINYL".    DAN MENTIONS THAT MARK
DID THE PROMPT AND EXPERT JOB OF INSTALLING THE FENCE.     AND I HAVE
ALSO  LEARNED THAT MARK DEEPLY DISCOUNTED THE COST OF THE FENCE AND
DONATED ALL THE LABOR  TO INSTALL IT, TOTALING IN EXCESS OF $3,500.
OTHERS DAN WISHED TO THANK:    LARRY IHRIG OF IHRIG CONTRACTORS FOR THE REMOVAL OF THE SHRUBS.     KEVIN LAHEY AND LAHEY TRUCKING FOR HAULING
OUT THE DEBRIS.     THE CITY OF MAQUOKETA AND ITS CREW FOR ALLOWING THE
DUMPING AT THE CITY FACILITY OUT NEAR THE INDUSTRIAL PARK.     DON AND
CAROLYN WAITE FOR THE NEW HAND RAIL LEADING UP TO THE CEMETERY FROM
EAST SUMMIT.    MATT WILLIAMS, BUDDY CLYMER, AND GEORGE BURMAHL FOR THEIR HELPING HANDS, AND THE BOARD AND STAFF OF MT. HOPE CENMETERY
FOR BEING COURTEOUS AND HELPFUL IN ANY WAY.   DAN SAID IT WAS A PLEASURE
TO WORK WITH ALL OF THESE FINE PEOPLE.
I SAY THANKS AGAIN TO ALL RESPONSIBLE.     MAQUOKETA SAYS THANKS.
HOPE YOU ALL HAVE A CHANCE TO SEE THE NEW FENCE SOON.     SCROLL DOWN
A LITTLE ON THIS REPORT FOR SOME PHOTOS I TOOK LAST WEEK.
AND CONGRATULATIONS AND THANKS TO ALL THE MEMBERS OF THE LEGION, VFW,
LEGION AUXILIARY AND VFW AUXILIARY, AND THE BAND,  FOR MAKING MEMORIAL
DAY 2010 IN MAQUOKETA A FITTING EVENT.    CLICK-ON THE PHOTO TO ENLARGE IT.
