ZERO AGAIN LAST NIGHT....SUNNY AND COLD TODAY.

ANOTHER SCROOGE STORY. SOMEONE TOOK A SLEIGH AND REINDEER AND THE POWER CORD FROM THE LAUREL BAKER HOME AT 18730 FULTON ROAD IN MAQUOKETA. VALUE OF THE STOLEN MERCHANDISE, $120.00.

(WARNING: BEWARE OF CONTENT OF THIS STORY) IN JACKSON COUNTY MAGISTRATE COURT, 21 YEAR OLD JUSTIN GALLOWAY AND 21 YEAR OLD BRIAN WILHELM, BOTH OF MAQUOKETA, WERE CHARGED WITH ASSAULT CAUSING INJURY.
MAQUOKETA POLICE SAY THE PAIR, ALONG WITH BRIAN HOPSON AND CHRIS MAINS, KICKED ADAM BEARCE IN THE HEAD, BREAKING HIS JAW AND TEARING HIS EAR FROM HIS HEAD, DURING A FIGHT THAT HAPPENED AT 9:30 THE NIGHT OF NOVEMBER 25TH AT 206 N. DEARBORN.

LOTS OF TALK GOING ON BY MAQUOKETA CITY COUNCIL MEMBERS AND BUSINESSMEN ABOUT DOWNTOWN PARKING IN MAQUOKETA. THERE ARE SOME SPECIAL 15-MINUTE ZONES, THERE ARE MOSTLY 2-HOUR ZONES AND THERE WAS A REQUEST FOR SOME 30-MINUTE ZONES. AND THERE IS A NEED FOR MORE PARKING IN GENERAL. BUT, LIMITS IS THE BIG ISSUE THESE DAYS. AND ALL AGREE, IF THE PARKING IS NOT POLICED, NOTHING WILL WORK TO THE BETTERMENT OF PARKING. THE LATEST PROPOSAL, BY A COMMITTEE OF THE COUNCIL WOULD HAVE MADE THE WEST SIDE OF MAIN STREET 30 MINUTE SPACE AND THE EAST SIDE OF MAIN, 2-HOUR SPACES. NO ACTION TAKEN AND MORE MEETINGS ARE COMING. I THINK THEY SHOULD POUND A POLE IN THE PAVEMENT AT THE END OF EACH PARKING SPACE AND ON THAT POLE, MOUNT SOME KIND OF MACHINE WITH A TIMER ON IT AND A SLOT FOR INSERTING A COIN.
THAN FOR SO MUCH MONEY, THE SHOPPER COULD PARK FOR SO MANY MINUTES.
THEN THEY COULD HIRE A POLICEMAN WITH A 3-WHEEL MOTORCYCLE AND HE COULD GO UP AND DOWN THE STREETS TO SEE IF ANY VEHICLE WAS PARKING WERE THE TIMER HAD RUN OUT. IF A....LET'S CALL IT A METER.....IS RUN OUT, THE PERSON WITH THE VEHICLE PARKED THERE COULD BE GIVEN AN ENVELOPE TICKET AND TOLD TO PLACE A FINE IN THAT ENVELOPE. AND THEN PLACE THE ENVELOPE AT A COLLECTION BOX ON EACH SIDE OF THE STREET. THE MONEY FROM THESE FINES COULD THEN BE USED TO PAY THE SPECIAL POLICEMEN.
MAYBE SOMEONE HAS THOUGHT ABOUT THIS BEFORE. OH WELL, I'LL KEEP YOU POSTED ON MAQUOKETA DOWNTOWN PARKING PROBLEM.

JUST A FEW YEARS AGO, WE HAD SPECIAL HITCHING POSTS (NO METER) AROUND TOWN WHERE THE AMISH COULD TIE UP THEIR HORSE AND BUGGY. NO MORE AMISH AROUND, SO THOSE ARE GONE.

THERE, I STRETCHED THIS REPORT OUT A LITTLE, SO IT WOULDN'T BE TOO SHORT.

I PLAN TO HAVE A SHORT REPORT TOMORROW FOR CHRISTMAS EVE....SO LEAVE ME SOME COOKIES AND MILK (MILLER TYPE) FOR WHEN I VISIT YOUR HOME TOMORROW AFTERNOON.

HAPPY LAST MINUTE SHOPPING.
