MOSTLY CLOUDY AND  COLD TODAY...HIGH OF 49.
LIGHT RAIN AND A LITTLE WARMER OVER THE  WEEKEND.

THE MAQUOKETA CHAMBER OF COMMERCE HAS A NEW PRESIDENT.
THE CHAMBER ANNOUNCED TODAY THAT TOM DEVINE HAS
BEEN APPOINTED EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR.      REPLACING  DEVINE AS
PRESIDENT IS VICE-PRESIDENT DAVE UPDEGRAFF, AN EMPLOYEE OF
OHNWARD BANKS.   LENAE OWEN WAS VOTED-IN AS THE NEW VICE PRESIDENT AND SHEILA NUGENT AS A NEW BOARD MEMBER.
UPDEGRAFF SAID, "THOSE WHO KNOW TOM KNOW HIS PASSION FOR MAQUOKETA AND JACKSON COUNTY.    HE HAS INTIMATE KNOWLEDGE
OF CHAMBER OPERATIONS".    THE ANNOUNCEMENT GOES ON TO SAY THAT HIS FORMAL EDUCATION IS IN BUSINESS, SALES AND MARKETING.   HE'S BEEN
RESPONSIBLE FOR INTERPRETING AND MAINTAINING BUDGETS, FUNDRAISING
AND TRAINING OTHER PEOPLE.       UPDEGRAFF ADDED, "OUR CHAMBER
SUPPORTS THE DIRECTION THE CITY AND COUNCIL ARE TAKING WITH ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT".

THE CITY OF MAQUOKETA AND MAQUOKETA MUNICIPAL ELECTRIC
UTILITY BOARD PLAN TO SEE IF THERE WOULD BE SAVINGS IN HAVING
A JOINT BILLING OPERATION.    THE IDEA WAS HASHED OVER THIS WEEK
DURING AN MMEU BOARD MEETING.

LAST NIGHT AT A SPECIAL MEETING, THE CITY COUNCIL VOTED TO
APPOINT ERIC PAPE TO THE AT-LARGE COUNCIL POSITION.
NOW, THEY NEED TO FIND SOMEONE TO SERVE IN THE 3RD WARD,WHERE PAPE IS THE COUNCILMAN.

THIS WEEK.   

IN SPORTS: 
IN BOY'S TRACK LAST NIGHT AT EPWORTH, THE CARDINALS
TOOK 5TH PLACE IN THE BOBCAT RELAYS, WON BY WESTERN
DUBUQUE.

IN GOLF, THE CARDINAL BOYS AT PRAIRIE CREEK COURSE HERE IN
MAQUOKETA, DEFEATED WESTERN DUBUQUE, 164 TO 172.
MEDALIST WAS CONNER TAYLOR OF MAQUOKETA WITH A 38.
RUNNER-UP WAS BLAISE WALLER WITH A 40.

IN GIRL'S GOLF, WEDNESDAY, MAQUOKETA HOSTED A TOURNAMENT
AT THE MAQUOKETA COUNTRY CLUB  COURSE.  DYERSVILLE TOOK FIRST.
THE CARDINALS PLACED 6TH. LEADING MAQUOKETA, ALLISON VANDEMORE WITH A 86.

IN BASEBALL, LEIGHTON HEPKER AND I ATTENDED THE ST. LOUIS CARDINALS
"RADIO NETWORK" GET-TOGETHER, HELD EVERY SPRING AT BUSCH STADIUM.
THERE ARE 117 STATIONS IN THE NETWORK.    A PRIZE DRAWING WAS HELD AND I WON ONE OF THE PRIZES....THE HONOR TO THROW OUT THE CEREMONIAL FIRST PITCH AT  YESTERDAY AFTERNOON'S GAME.
IT WAS HELD  ABOUT 15 MINUTES BEFORE THE GAME STARTED, SO NOT
ON TV.   MY PITCH WAS DOWN THE MIDDLE.   I'LL HAVE A PHOTO OR TWO
LATER ON THIS DAILY REPORT.    THE CARDS WON THE WEDNESDAY NIGHT GAME BUT LOST THE AFTERNOON GAME AND ARE STILL IN FIRST PLACE IN THE NATIONAL LEAGUE CENTRAL.
