NICE DAY TODAY...HIGH OF 58.
RAIN TONIGHT, TOMORROW, TOMORROW NIGHT AND WEDNESDAY MORNING.
SNOW COMING IN WESTERN IOWA.
ELECTION DAY TOMORROW WITH POLLS OPEN IN JACKSON COUNTY FROM NOON UNTIL 8 P.M.
IN MAQUOKETA, CONTESTED RACES FOR MAYOR, 5TH WARD AND 1ST WARD.
YESTERDAY AFTERNOON, GLEE PORTER AND WILLIAM BOARDMAN WERE INDUCTED
INTO THE JACKSON COUNTY HISTORICAL SOCIETY "HALL OF FAME".
THE CEREMONY WAS HELD AT THE MUSEUM ON THE FAIRGROUNDS AND IT WAS
FOLLOWED BY THE ANNUAL HERITAGE DINNER. A GOOD TURNOUT FOR BOTH
THE CEREMONY AND THE DINNER.
GLEE PORTER WAS A COLUMNIST AND SOCIETY EDITOR FOR MAQUOKETA NEWSPAPERS.
BOARDMAN WAS A WEALTHY MAN IN THE LATE 1800'S AND GAVE MONEY TO THE
MAQUOKETA PUBLIC LIBRARY AND OTHER ORGANIZATIONS.
JACKSON COUNTY DEPUTY CHAD GRUVER INVESTIGATED A SUNDAY AFTERNOON
ACCIDENT ON FIRST STREET AND 174TH AVENUE. JUSTIN HOPSON, AGE 26,
OF MAQUOKETA, WAS CHARGED WITH 3 VIOLATIONS WHEN HE FAILED TO NEGOTIATE A CURVE, WENT OFF THE ROAD, AND LANDED IN A DITCH. HE THEN LEFT THE SCENE, LEAVING TWO INJURED. ONE OF THE PASSENGERS FROM MOLINE WAS TAKEN TO THE MAQUOKETA HOSPITAL WITH MAJOR INJURIES AND THE OTHER NAME OR CONDITION
WAS NOT LISTED.
