MOSTLY CLOUDY, WINDY AND HIGH ONLY OF 51 TODAY.
JERRY RASMUSSEN, OF MAQUOKETA, REPRESENTING BRAD DEERY MOTORS OF MAQUOKETA, TODAY APPEARED BEFORE THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS AND ASKED IF BRAD DEERY'S COULD RENT THE FORMER TRUCKSTOP LAND, OWNED BY THE COUNTY. HE PROPOSED PAYING $200 A MONTH, WITH 30-DAY NOTICE BY EITHER SIDE. BRAD DEERY OWNS THE LAND TO THE NORTH OF THE TRUCK STOP PROPERTY AND USES IT FOR VEHICLE STORAGE. THE SUPERVISORS SAID THEY WOULD CONSIDER THE OFFER BUT TOOK NO ACTION TODAY. THE TRUCKSTOP BUILDING IS STILL ON THE LAND, BUT WOULD NOT BE INCLUDED IN THE LEASE. THE SUPERIVORS WOULD LIKE TO SELL THE ENTIRE PROPERTY AND BUILDING, BUT THERE IS STILL A PROBLEM, APPARENTLY, WITH SOIL CONTAMINATION CLEARANCE BY THE STATE.
THE MAQUOKETA SCHOOL BOARD WILL SEEK A GRANT TO ADD ON TO THE MIDDLE SCHOOL. THEY WOULD APPLY FOR THE SAME GRANT THAT HAS PROVIDED MONEY FOR THE CARRDINAL ELEMENTARY SCHOOL ADDITION THAT IS NEARING COMPLETION. THEY WILL APPLY FOR $400,000, AND 40% OF THE PROJECT WILL BE PAID OUT OF LOCAL FUNDING.
THE ADDITION WOULD BE TO THE SOUTH PARKING LOT SIDE AND WOULD ESTABLISH A NEW ENTRYWAY AND A MAIN FLOOR OFFICE COMPLEX. NOW, THE MIDDLE SCHOOL OFFICE IS LOCATED ON THE 3RD FLOOR.
THE DELWOOD SCHOOL DISTRICT IS ADDING ON TO THE SCHOOL IN DELMAR. GROUNDBREAKING WILL BE SOON.
