COOL NIGHT LAST NIGHT...45...COOL DAY TODAY...IN 50'S.

JOSE MARTINEZ, AGE 17, OF MAQUOKETA, WAS REPORTED AS A RUNAWAY ON MONDAY NIGHT AND NOW HAS BEEN CHARGED WITH STEALING TWO CARS. HE WAS PICKED UP ON HIGHWAY 61 IN CLINTON COUNTY LAST NIGHT ALLEGEDLY DRIVING ANOTHER STOLEN VEHICLE FROM DUBUQUE.

MAQUOKETA FIREMEN WERE CALLED TO A TREE AND FIELD FIRE AT 2:25 YESTERDAY AFTERNOON...WHERE 1 TO 2 ACRES OF CORN ON THE TOM FULLER FARM WERE BURNED. THE FIRE STARTED AS A TREE FIRE AND SPREAD TO THE CORN AND FIREMEN WERE AT THE SCENE FOR A COUPLE HOURS.

LOREN LUBBEN, RETIRED MAQUOKETA FARMER AND BANKER,
WAS OPERATING A RESTORED VINTAGE TRACTOR YESTERDAY AFTERNOON AND IT TIPPED OVER IN A FIELD NEAR THE COMFORT INN HOTEL JUST SOUTH OF MAQUOKETA. THE RESCUE SQUAD WAS CALLED BUT WAS NOT NEEDED AS LUBBEN WAS NOT TRAPPED. HE WAS INJURED AND WAS AIRLIFTED TO UNIVERSITY HOSPITALS AND CLINICS IN IOWA CITY. I HEARD THIS AFTERNOON THAT HE HAS BROKEN RIBS AND WILL BE
OKAY. STATE TROOPER MILAN JAMES SAID HE WAS NOT ABLE TO TALK TO LUBBEN TO FIND OUT WHAT HAPPENED.
