67 THE HIGH TODAY.    THE DAY STARTED OFF CLOUDY AND THEN SUNSHINE
THIS AFTERNOON.
TOMORROW, RAIN AND IN THE 70'S.
COOLER WEATHER FOR THE REST OF THE WEEK, INCLUDING ONLY  AROUND 50 ON SATURDAY AND SUNDAY.

THE CITY OF MAQUOKETA HAS NOT DECIDED WHETHER THE JACKSON COUNTY ATV COMMISSION CAN HAVE ATV RIDES ON CERTAIN ROUTES  IN MAQUOKETA FOR SUMMER EVENTS.      THE  PUBLIC SAFETY COMMITTEE
TALKED ABOUT THE ISSUE, BUT DID NOT COME UP WITH A PROPOSAL.

THE JACKSON COUNTY SUPERVISORS THIS MORNING APPOINTED A WOMAN TO THE COUNTY ZONING BOARD OF ADJUSTMENT TO MAKE THE BOARD
GENDER-BALANCED.    THEY APPOINTED MARGO SHOUSE OF MAQUOKETA,
WHO DECEMBER 31ST, ENDED A FOUR YEAR TERM ON THE MAQUOKETA  CITY COUNCIL.   SHE REPLACES LONGTIME MEMBER JOHN MANSON OF RURAL
MAQUOKETA, WHO HAD INDICATED HE WOULD LIKE TO BE RE-APPOINTED.
HOWEVER, THE SUPERVISORS SAID THEY NEEDED TO APPOINT SHOUSE
TO MAKE THE BOARD GENDER-BALANCED.   THERE'S ONLY ONE OTHER WOMAN ON THE FIVE-MEMBER BOARD.   THE LAW REQUIRES  GOVERNMENT AGENCIES TO GENDER-BALANCE THEIR BOARDS AND COMMISSIONS
BY JULY 2012.

THE MAQUOKETA VFW POST AND MAQUOKETA AMERICAN LEGION POST ANNOUNCED TODAY THAT A FUND DRIVE HAS BEEN ORGANIZED TO REPLACE THE U.S. FLAGS AND FLAG POLES THAT WERE DAMAGED JUST BEFORE MEMORIAL DAY LAST YEAR IN THE WIND STORM AT MOUNT HOPE CEMETERY AND SACRED HEART CEMETERY.      THE GOAL IS $5,000.
MAKE CHECKS PAYABLE TO AVENUE OF FLAGS AND SEND CHECK TO
AVENUE OF FLAGS, P.O. BOX 757, MAQUOKETA, IOWA, 52060.   ANY AMOUNT
WILL BE WELCOME AND IS TAX DEDDUCTIBLE.
DONATIONS CAN ALSO BE LEFT AT THE MAQUOKETA STATE BANK.
ANY QUESTIONS, CALL CLIFF MERRICK IN MAQUOKETA, A MEMBER OF BOTH
VETERAN ORGANIZATIONS.

THE MAQUOKETA CITY BOARDS AND COMMISSIONS APPRECIATION DINNER WAS HELD LAST NIGHT.    MANY WERE RECOGNIZED, INCLUDING THREE
FOR REAL LONGTIME SERVICE.  TOM BREUCH FOR 37 YEARS ON THE
LIBRARY BOARD, JAMES DEUTMEYER FOR 30 YEARS ON THE LIBRARY

LAST NIGHT, NEARLY 200 PEOPLE ATTENDED THE ANNUAL BELLEVUE CHAMBER OF COMMERCE DINNER AT HORIZON HALL.    AFTER DINNER, AWARDS WERE PRESENTED AND THE GUEST SPEAKER WAS BELLEVUE'S OWN DAVE NORTH.   DAVE IS CEO OF SEDGWICK, A WORLD-WIDE FIRM THAT ASSISTS INDUSTRIES WITH INSURANCE CLAIMS FOR THEIR EMPLOYEES.
IT'S A $BILLION-DOLLAR-A-YEAR COMPANY, BASED IN MEMPHIS.   THEY HAVE
OFFICES ALL OVER THE COUNTRY, INCLUDING TWO IN DUBUQUE AND
JUST RECENTLY OPENED ONE IN BELLEVUE, THAT EMPLOYS 55 PEOPLE.
DAVE'S WIFE, PENNY AND 11 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER, MOVED TO
BELLEVUE 6 YEARS AGO SEEKING SMALL TOWN LIVING.   THEY
RESTORED ONE OF BELLEVUE'S OLDER LARGE HOMES ON A BLUFF OVERLOOKING THE MISSISSIPPI RIVER.   THE BEAUTIFUL HOME IS WELL LIGHTED AT NIGHT....YOU CAN'T MISS IT.   IN THE PAST YEAR, PENNY CAME UP WITH THE IDEA TO USE "BELLEVUE ROCKS" AS A PROMOTIONAL THEME FOR THE COMMUNITY.    THE CHAMBER LIKED IT AND EVERYONE IS EXCITED ABOUT IT.    NEW BLUE BANNERS IN PHOTO  ABOVE GO UP SOON AND PENNY WROTE A SONG CALLED "BELLEVUE ROCKS" AND SANG IT LAST NIGHT ... THEN DID IT A SECOND TIME WITH EVERYONE JOINING IN THE CHORUS.      WHY "BELLEVUE ROCKS"?    CALL, EMAIL OR STOP IN AND VISIT WITH CHAMBER DIRECTOR COLLEEN MYER AND SHE'LL  BE HAPPY TO EXPLAIN THE UPBEAT MOOD OF BELLEVUE THESE DAYS, THANKS TO MANY THINGS.   DAVE NORTH'S NEW OFFICE IN BELLEVUE, A NEW HOTEL GOING UP AND MUCH MORE.    BELLEVUE LIKES THE DAVE NORTH FAMILY AND THE FEELING IS MUTUAL.    IN CONCLUDING HIS REMARKS LAST NIGHT, HE SAID HE HOPES
THEY LIKE HIM BECAUSE THEY ARE IN BELLEVUE TO STAY!
GOOD NEWS FOR BELLEVUE, MAQUOKETA AND ALL OF JACKSON COUNTY!
